  1. Hey JP. Yeah, I think it is pretty obvious that this one is not legit. At least that is the way I am seeing it both by the examples I've posted and the feedback thus far on this post. I have not heard back from NGC as of yet, but I would definitely like to receive a response from them to see what their opinion is on this one. Hopefully they will take a look at it. Thanks!
  2. Yup, that was the first area that caught my attention as well, that extra length of "nose" if that's what that is (I am by no means an Ancient coin guy). Not only that, but the bottom of the coin looks totally different as well as all of the details and designs on the right side of the coin.
  3. Yes, it looks completely different to me as well. There are details on NGC's picture of the coin that are not on the store's picture vice versa. Looks awfully suspicious to me. I just sent NGC an email in the event they want to check it out.
  4. I'm out of town for the day and did a quick search for coin dealers around the area I'm in. I have not seen this NGC graded and slabbed Ancient in person, only what you are seeing in these photos from this company's website. Anyone here see anything that looks unusual? I checked the Cert. # and it comes back to this coin. The color of the label and the NGC emblem were the first things I noticed. Would the label inside the slab discolor to this extreme over time depending on when it was slabbed? Just curious if anyone sees something fishy here or I'm looking too deep into this. First three pics are from the business. The fourth pic is obviously straight of NGC's Cert. verification page. Thank you as always. EDIT: I just realized you may have to click on the first picture in order for it to open up in another screen in order to show the entire slab. Not sure why. All I'm seeing on the post is a narrow woodgrain line. Sorry.
  5. Welcome to the forum. The first thing I would suggest is posting a picture. And even then, pictures are not good enough to grade from for the most part. PLEASE post pictures if you ask a question. Thank you.
  6. @Coinbuf Thank you for your comment. Also, thank you to everyone as well for commenting or liking my new little addition.
  7. Well, I received my cracked planchet quarter today. I am very pleased with it. No doubt it was cracked prior to the strike, best I can tell, due to the distortion of the letters adjacent to the crack and the along with the slight misalignment of the design rim. It also has a small "bonus" die crack coming off of the planchet crack on the reverse. Pretty neat I thought. Thank you all for your previous comments and reactions. Just wanted to show it now that I have it in hand. Thanks!
  8. I could only wish to own "such a low grade coin" with that type of toning and beauty!!! Yet another awesome coin by none other than Mr. Lem "the Nickel Man" E!!! Congrats brother! Edit: We need a "love" or "heart" reaction button on the forum here! Liking a coin, and loving a coin, are two totally different emotions. Just my humble opinion here.
  9. I 100% agree. Just wanted to expand on JT2's excellent recommendation about safe flips (the brand name is actually spelled SAFLIP, just fyi, no offense JT, we know what you meant my friend 👍). Wizard coin supply (an online webstore), deals exclusively with coin related products and sells these at very reasonable prices in my opinion considering the cost of EVERYTHING these days.....geeese. They are made of a material called Mylar and are 100% PVC, oil and Vinyl free. These flips are the best way to store any type of coin in order to avoid harming them. Hope this helps.
  10. No worries. I figured it was just a typo. I do that all the time...lol. I went back and edited my comment. No problem at all. Thanks for the like. A friend brought it to my attention yesterday and I got lucky with only one other bidder involved. Sometimes ya win... sometimes ya lose! I got lucky. Thanks again.
  11. Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well. I was fortunate to win this one on an auction yesterday. These are the seller's pictures. I've never owned a decent example of a cracked planchet so I thought I would mark that one off my list. I feel I got lucky in winning this one as the winning bid didn't break the bank. Looking forward to seeing it in hand.
  12. I would have put the $5 bill inside the frame that he sent back with it if it would have fit..... He didn't ask for anything money wise but I put some cash in the envelope to cover shipping back to me. Very nice of him to send the extra money back.
  13. Here is one more pic. It's not everyday you get a handwritten note from Mike Diamond....haha. I had to frame it. Pretty neat to me.
  14. Hello Coinbuf. I supplied the article a few comments back. Sorry it is blurry, not sure why. It may be hard to read but that is the best I can do from copying the article.
  15. Hello everyone and thank you for your comments, I truly appreciate them. I am definitely aware of Mike Diamond, his accomplishments with error coins (and Error-ref. com), and jokingly made my reference to "a gentleman who contacted me" in my opening post (sorry if that threw anyone off, not my intentions). I will try to post the page that Mike D. wrote concerning my coin in Coin World. It actually still remains a mystery as to how these errors occur. If anyone is a subscriber to Coin World, the article for this coin was written by Mike in the May 16th edition. Thanks to all!!!👍 ** I just posted a pic of the article. It may be a bit blurry. Sorry.
  16. Thank you Roger for those comparable pictures. Under the magnification you supplied, with the author's coin and the other S mm's on various coins of this nature, it looks like the last pic you supplied (of another coin) appears to be very close to the poster's coin. Just my observation here.
  17. Thank you for bringing this up. I did not look at the authenticity of the author's coin. I was inadvertently focused on the mint mark. I have been away for awhile, I need to get back up to speed. Not meaning anything derogatory here for the poster of this coin.
  18. @Woods020 How you been? I was all excited about my newly acquired 1864 IHC Cu-Ni, was gonna post it here, and then see you got me beat by a mile with your 1864 Bronze DDO . Congrats on that one, very nice!
  19. That is flawless aside from the plating issues you mentioned, but man.... does that thing have some luster or what! Very nice.
  20. Hey Bill, thanks. Yes, it was very odd to me and I had never seen anything like it either. The obverse letters/date were not being affected at all yet there was an obvious secondary profile of Jefferson. Now that I came back to read your comment, I just realized I did not even finish my opening post..... DUH!!!!! Lack of sleep and trying to be in two places at once can cause some crazy things. I was very fortunate to get a write-up in Coin World regarding this coin. Going back to add that now.
