  1. Definitely die deterioration issues. You can see the same effect on the A and C of AMERICA and also inside the top of the O in ONE. Look close enough and I believe a ridge ring is starting to develop on the reverse in the vicinity of AMERICA which is a sure fire sign of a worn out die. Pretty neat example though.
  2. @DWLange. With absolute all due respect, and for clarification in my own mind, did you mean to say "the copper plating does not always adhere smoothly to the zinc base on Zincolns"? Or is there something I am missing with the minting process of the current Lincoln Cents since the transition in 1982? Thank you in advance!
  3. This was actually intended to be a ball marker which was licensed and produced by the PGA Tour. It should be the same design on both sides. As far as when this particular token was produced, I am not sure. The PGA Tour over the years has authorized many different designs of a "Partner's Club" token which was predominately made to be a golf ball marker for marking your ball on the green in order to pick up your ball under the rules of golf. Still pretty cool.
  4. Well @Mohawk, here's one you might like. Just found this one in my "haul" from a few weeks ago. Looks maybe like a tad bit of a greaser on the reverse "10 CENTS"...just maybe... or maybe from circulation? Not too sure being that it's not a MS coin and has seen some pocket time..... I just love the ship on the reverse on these Canadian coins. Hope you like it my friend.
  5. Do you know how long it took me to even come up with the Cromwell thing????? I had to do some research on Henry VIII just to reply to you to halfway sound like I knew what I was talking about.......
  6. I am bound by a code of silence which the common person will never understand, nor grasp if told. It truly was a shame that the "Tudor" ordered the dispatch of Cromwell. Very, very, very, sad to say the least. As far as you, or anyone else knows.... well.... I will chose to comment no further.
  7. Well @J P Mashoke.... My friend, you have created a special place in my heart for War Nickels. Congrats on completing your set!! I was just going through a random roll of Jeffersons right now and this one showed up. Couldn't help but to throw a pic up here for ya. Heck, I would have given you this one for your set if you needed it but I don't think it would quite meet the standards you have patiently sought and achieved, awesome. Shoot...I may just start a set of raw War Nickels myself..... I've found quite a few over the years CRH'ing. Can't remember what all I have but you may have just compelled me to go back and look. Congrats again!
  8. I couldn't agree more with what has been said by the other members here. The Half Cent would be my recommendation. I just looked at the vote stats and... well..... 🤔
  9. I would post the entire text dialogue with this "insufficiently unknowledgeable person" (or whatever the forum edits and calls these people when you actually spell it out) but I had rather look at some coins at 0100 hours EST. The bottom line is that this person has "drastically" reduced his asking price from $900 to $850. I did offer them $50 for it just for kicks and giggles and they refused...... I suppose my career background, which led me to interact with people like this, has caused me to enjoy such silliness. I did attach one screenshot of my texting to this "hopeful" in closing. I hope everyone has a great night!!!!
  10. I am currently creating a dialogue via text with this person...... stand by.....LMBO!!!!
  11. I'll post now...... It is just after midnight here in Georgia. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all and may this year be the best!!!!!!!!
  12. I'm thinking I'm seeing some slight toning on the obverse around the 2200 to 0100 hours position. Can't wait for you to get it and post some pics to see what it really looks like. I may have mentioned this before previously. However, I wanted to actually ask a question/inquiry here about slabbed coins in general and throw yours in the mix Hog. I wonder why TPG's don't (or if they do, please tell me how to identify this) give at least the year when a slabbed coin was graded and/or holdered? I am under the impression that the type of holder, and the sticker, is the only viable way in which to estimate a range of date when a coin was slabbed since TPG's change up their stickers from time to time. Maybe I should have started a new thread asking this question. Or maybe there is a way to tell what date a coin was slabbed and I'm just not knowledgeable on this.
  13. Good for you my friend for the purchase. Looks like a tad bit of toning on the top of the obverse. I really like toned coins and I like this one. I love it when collectors just buy what makes them happy (especially when the coin is budget friendly no doubt!!!) As far as the "T" on the label..... Just Bob and Coinbuf beat me to the meaning of the "T". At least that's what I was gonna "guess" that it meant.....
  14. Welcome to the forum. 1989 Lincolns were not predominately made of a copper composition. The mint changed over to a zinc cored, 8 micron copper plated Cent, during 1982 to the current year. You have what we commonly refer to as a "zincoln" Cent. Laminations, to my knowledge, only occur on solid alloy metal coins which yours is not so it can't be a lamination issue. Looks like your Cent is showing a lot of split plating, as well as plating bubbles/blisters, where the thin copper plating is starting to expose the underlying zinc which in time will turn into zinc rot. I can't tell from your pics if it's a die clash or not, too blurry. I totally agree with @Mohawk regarding grading. Nowhere near worth it even if it happened to be a minor clash. Worth 1 Cent ( face value that is....probably really not even that much taking the metal content into consideration......).
  15. I tried in vain last night and took so many pics, using different lighting and angles, to see if I could make out at least one numeral in the date. I believe I was able to make out either a 3 or a 5 on the last digit of the date but it is still inconclusive. Oh well....... I gave it my best effort.
  16. To continue to CRH and purchase old albums (obviously it would have to be from an uneducated collector) in the hopes of finding the elusive 1955 or a 1958 Lincoln DDO..... or maybe a 1969 S DDO. I can't leave out the 1992 Philly (or D) CAM or the Copper '43. But then again....... these have been my goals (or should I say my imagination) since I was a youngster back in the early 70's so............ I ain't holding my breath....... but ya never know..... I just totally enjoy opening a bank roll of coins no matter what the denomination just to see what is inside. I have been very fortunate over the years in finding numerous errors and varieties CRH'ing which I am thoroughly grateful for! Good luck to all of my friends who have 2022 goals!
  17. Welcome to the forum @Guthrie101!!! We really like good valid questions here and then the "asker" accepting the answers they get from the extremely experienced collectors and veterans on this forum. Not meaning that you can't ask more questions about a coin if you need further explanation, we will be glad to help you. This LWC coin of yours was very straight forward and easily diagnosed. Hang around and you will learn a wealth of information from the pros here on the NGC forum!
  18. I take that is was all just a hazy "blur" after that one night and then to add to it..... there wasn't any further "date" after that late night...... just sayin.....
  19. Yeah, I know right! I recently learned that there are collectors who specialize in PO1 graded coins and that this grade sometimes brings a higher premium than the next several grades above it. Maybe if I send it off to the FBI forensic team they can use their specialized etching reagent to see through the metal so that they can see what date it is..... Oh well.... I'm still in love with my "Cornet"
  20. I totally agree. It's neat to think who's hands, and how many hands, this coin has passed through on its journey to me.
  21. I'm glad you like my coin Roger, I really appreciate it. Thank you!!!
  22. Found this coin in one of the holders I've been going through. By far the worst shape and worn coin in the bunch. It's a shame there's not a hint of the date remaining. The best I can tell, from what's left of this coin, is that it appears to be a Coronet Cent. I looked at all of the earlier Cents and the obverse profile looks like a match. Would anyone agree this is a Coronet? If so, I still love it being that it could be over 200 years old. It is definitely underweight at 9.42 grams but I can see why due to the loss of metal. Thanks!
  23. No Bill..... not a dumb question at all. Thank you for asking and posting your question. I gained some valuable knowledge and insight on these SMS's.
  24. That's excellent info. I did not know this fact. I retract my initial comment on your thread about being struck in Philly. @Mohawk's comment is great info too. I'm learning something new everyday!! I love it!!
  25. Correct me if I am wrong but SMS's were all struck in Philly. They are sort of considered "in-between" a business strike and a proof strike but are not considered proofs to answer your question.
