  1. Went to the local convenience store yesterday, purchased a pack of chewing gum for less than a dollar, got some change back, and low and behold this feller showed up. I love Buffalo Nickels. I thought this was pretty neat to have gotten back in change and especially being in pretty good shape for an old circulated Buffalo. I think it would grade in the G range though (no, I'm not submitting it). Oh well....no big deal, just a really nice piece of pocket change that's still worth around $5 +/- bucks. Just thought I'd share with you all.
  2. Mohawk!!!! You HAVE to get into U.S. coins my friend. I understand though...... once one gets into a certain coinage they tend to stay in that arena.... just like myself (who am I kidding.... I can't depart from my beloved Lincolns..... ). I'm just poking some fun at ya..... It's late, I am very sleepy, and I've had my doctor prescribed meds so I probably just need to shut up and go to bed..... But.... I do still have several Canadian coins you may be interested in.... Several are silver Canadian coins, pretty neat. Check back with me when I'm awake....
  3. I have plenty of them in the "haul" I gathered a week or so ago from a local antique store. I'm still trying to price them out as well as all of the Canadian 1 Cents that were in the bunch too. Maybe I need to post some pics for ya.......
  4. I cannot remember what post it was in, which was not very long ago, but I believe it was @GoldFinger1969 and another member (maybe @RWB, can't remember....sorry) laid out some very good information as to the meaning of B.U., GEM coins, etc...... I thought I had saved it but I can't seem to find it. Maybe one of these members, or another member, will chime in and can recall who and/or where this post is. EDIT: I just now went back and found this post and thread with some good info. It was GoldFinger (which I changed above) hope this helps in your learning ventures.
  5. @Wayne26 First, Welcome to the forum. In regards to JT2's post (where I saw you posted a confused emoji), it was meant to be friendly and humorous. I can only assume he was referring to the old phone booths and pay phones that took a Quarter to make a phone call. Not sure how old you are but if you are anywhere in at least your 30's or 40's then you probably know what I'm talking about. Those types of pay phones are a thing of the past......
  6. I don't believe the OP was inquiring about the actual HA auction itself. @ronnie stein was questioning the information shown on NGC Coin Explorer where the prices shown for the two different 1793 Liberty Cap 1 Cent MS, as he described in his opening post, were drastically different. Why this T-II blank planchet, as shown on the HA website, was listed under the 1793 Liberty Cap auction results on Coin Explorer......I'm not sure. As I mentioned earlier, I am not knowledgeable on this year Cent (Lord knows I would love to have one though). Is this blank planchet a certain size, weight, etc... that would fit the bill for a 1793 Liberty Cap? And obviously no, you can't compare a blank planchet to a struck coin.
  7. Hey @ronnie stein. I just looked at NGC Coin Explorer and saw the same thing. If you highlight the Lot #9464 and click on it it will show you what sold for $103.50. I'm not that knowledgeable on these Cents but evidently the type 2 blank was a Liberty Cap blank since they listed it under this title. Hope this helps.
  8. Hello Collin and welcome to the forum. You will find a wealth of information here. Your Lincoln Cent has been plated. There were never any Lincoln Cents made out of silver, only copper and a zinc copper combination. As far as figuring out what your coins are, this is my suggestion. If you have access to Google Lens on your cell phone, this is a great place to start. You can take a picture of your coin and it will search a database of millions of known other pictures and will most likely come up with a match or something very similar. You can then go to our host's Resources link and scroll down to I believe Price Guide and then World Coins. You can then enter the info you gathered from Google about your coin into several different places on the link. It should then pull up pictures of your coin granted you entered the correct info into the link. It is a bit frustrating and confusing at first but after several attempts you will get the hang of it. Hope this helps. And as always, we are here to help those out that have a sincere desire to learn about their coins. We really like to see our serious collectors gather as much knowledge as possible but we are also here to help you do that.
  9. Sorry brother you don't have power. I actually like it when the power goes out here.... keeps the kiddos off those dang phones and electronic devices and snap chattin stuff, etc...... (but what they don't know is that I can use my phone as a hotspot for my computer so I can keep on looking at coins and the forum and they can't find me when I go into the basement and hide....)
  10. Hey J P. Definitely looks like doubling to me. Very nice. I did a quick peek at VV and there are numerous DDO for this year and mint. Check out this one on VV for a match. Aside from the other doubling, the Y in LIBERTY is what stood out to me IMHO for a match. 1943-P DDO-0011 Edit: well.... after looking at a few more on VV, several of them seem to exhibit the same strike on the Y where it looks to have a "ridge" on the upper left of the Y. It should still be a match to one of those though.
  11. I wish everyone and their families a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year. It has been an honor and a privilege to get to know you all and this I am thankful for.
  12. I know, right!! @Lem E definitely has it going on with the Nickels without a doubt! I love the pics he continually posts.
  13. Judy, VKurtB answered your question before your last post. RWB reiterated what Kurt said as well. Just for the record, one more time, a Third Party Grader (TPG) will not grade or authenticate a coin that is not "the real deal". And one other note: @JKK made a comparison between the weight of your "coin" and a real Spanish Doubloon. I meant to thank you for supplying the weight of your coin after I asked last night. Gold, obviously being extremely valuable as far back as history goes, makes it very odd that your coin would excessively exceed the weight, as it does, of a real Doubloon. I may be wrong as I'm not a metallurgist, but it seems that I've read about another type of testing device called an XRF I believe that would definitively identify the type(s) of metal in your "coin". Not sure what a Thermo laser gun is other than your simple point and shoot laser gun that registers only temperature.
  14. I am inclined to be along the same thought process of @Woods020. Can you supply us with a weight of your coin? Preferably in 100th's of a gram. Welcome to the forum.
  15. Yup. PMD of some sort. But I will admit, I would have definitely taken a good look at this Dime had I found it. Not going to argue that it looks like an "S" but as others have said, there's nothing that could have happened at the Mint to have caused this. I too, at first glance, was thinking dropped letter but @Just Bob put that one to rest. Still a cool PMD'd coin though (If there is such a thing.... )
  16. Thank you Bill for looking those up for me and the compliment on my coin. I wonder where this Ebay seller is getting his listing prices from. According to the NGC price guide, a MS 60 is only in the $14 range so you know AU's wouldn't even come close to the asking prices you posted fro this seller (which seems to be a reputable company). I haven't looked at other sources of pricing, or past sales results as of yet, but I will. It's probably the best condition copper Bronze coin I own, especially for its age. It really is a beautiful coin and I can't help but to wonder what it would grade. I can't see it as anything less than mid MS, IMHO. There's barely a scratch on it and I don't see any signs of circulation wear at all. As I explained in the above post to @Mohawk, my pics are not turning out very crisp and clear and I'm perplexed as to why. Never had that problem in the past. Thanks Bill!!
  17. Thanks Tom for that info., I appreciate it. I'm not sure why my pics are downloading like they are. I never had such an issue with the blurry look with my pictures I'm posting here on the forum. I'm using my iPhone to take the pics and then emailing them to my computer. Once received on my email, they are noticeably distorted. The pics on my cell phone are absolutely crystal clear and sharp as can be. I've tried emailing them from my phone using the 4 different size files allowed: small, medium, large and actual size. Doesn't seem to matter how I send them, they still turn out a bit distorted and blurry. Very frustrating to say the least. By NO means am I doubting your judgment on the strike of the leaves my friend. It's just that I am at my wits end trying to figure out how to transfer the great pics from my phone, to my computer, and have them turn out as good as what I am seeing on my phone screen. Any suggestions on this????
  18. Not that I am impatient at all. I did just move this question and coin over here to the newbie forum (I originally posted this on the World Coins forum) in the hopes of getting some feedback as a new post from the foreign coin pros here on the forum. So far, I've found 10 really nice foreign silvers in the "haul" I was lucky in obtaining the other day from an antique shop. This one was in the bunch (in a board holder) and really stood out to me due to its immaculate condition. I did some research on it and found that the Proof of this 1954 is fairly rare with only 200 being struck. I also saw on the NGC price guide that it carries a decent premium, condition dependent, if it is a Proof strike. I'm new to foreigns and would like to be able to distinguish a foreign Proof strike from a regular strike if there even is a difference vs U.S. coinage, I simply don't know. This coin has been very well preserved. I haven't been able to find a picture of, or information on, one of these exact coins with a photo, or an explanation, showing a Proof in which to compare mine to. It appears to me to be struck extremely well, has great definition/detail on all of the devices, and has a nice defined rim.... to my knowledge this is consistent with a Proof coin. NGC's Proof photo of this coin on their World Coins link is unfortunately black and white. Any help or input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  19. I will have to agree 100% with Woods. Your pictures need to be much better than what you supplied. Granted this was an easy one, had it been a more in depth question I can assure you that no one would be able to help you. Definitely a large date Cent as well.
  20. Moved over here to this forum where I may post a few coins from the haul I made yesterday from the antique shop. So far, I've found 10 foreign silvers and then this one really stood out due to its immaculate condition. Did some research on it and found that the Proof of this year is fairly rare with only 200 struck and caries a nice premium over a business strike. I'm new to foreigns and need to be able to distinguish a Proof from a run of the mill. Maybe this thing has been so well preserved it is a business strike but I am not sure. Haven't been able to find a picture of one of these exact 1954's with a photo showing a Proof in which to compare mine to. This coin appears to me to be struck very well and has a nice defined rim. NGC's Proof photo of this coin on their World Coins link picture is black and white. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Edit: after posting, these pics appear a tad bit blurry and do not show how clean of a strike this coin exhibits. Not sure why as my pics are nice, clear and sharp on my end before I posted them. Maybe I need to adjust the sharpness setting.
  21. Thanks @Hoghead515. Definitely looking forward to going through all of these Lincolns. @Lem E I did some research on these holders. I'm not seeing them being worth a premium. Maybe I'm wrong (wishfully so) but no big deal at all regardless. Found a 1865 United States 2 Cent mixed in the bunch. Can't tell if it's the plain or fancy 5. It has a little too much crud on it to see the top of the 5. I've always wanted to own a 2 Cent coin and now I do. It has some damage but that's ok. Still neat to me. I also found an 1875 Republica Mexicana coin (it may be a token or medal, not sure) in here. I Googled it for an hour and couldn't find a match to the reverse. I would have absolutely sworn it was gold while looking at it through a loupe before I removed it from the board holder. It's pretty thin, larger in diameter than a Quarter, but just doesn't weigh enough to be gold. I'll try to post a pic so someone can hopefully help me out with it.
  22. Thanks Lem. I'm not even sure what I have here as I already said. For all I know at this point, I may have absolutely nothing..... or I may have hit a home run. Whatever the outcome is it's fine with me. Just to have this many old coins, tokens, and all the Lincolns, is well worth it to me just to occupy my time and to just look through them to see if there is anything of value or beauty. I know the antique store owner well. She has no idea about coins and their value (and I honestly don't either when it comes to foreign coins) but I'm more than eager and willing to learn. Even though I purchased this stuff from her at an incredibly low price, and I'm now the rightful owner with no strings attached, I assured her I would let her know if any of these coins were valuable. It's a small town here where I live. We take care of each other and watch each other's back. That's just me, the way I grew up and the way I prefer to live life. It also makes for excellent friendships. I would love to find something valuable in this "stash" and be able to take it back and show her.
  23. Here is one beautiful 1947 Peso I just pulled out which I believe, from researching it, is half silver? It appears to be in very good condition.
  24. I'm not sure exactly what all I have here in both coins, older albums, and RAYWAY "boards" (pictures 7-10), but I wanted to post these pictures as soon as I got home (couldn't wait!!!!). I purchased all of these items from a local antique shop this afternoon (not a coin shop). Being predominantly a Lincoln collector, I couldn't resist purchasing these 3 older Lincoln Whitman albums. Two of them are Whitmans dated 1960 (pictures 5 and 6) but one of them, the large leaflet type album in the picture (first four pics are of this same album to include the product number), I'm not sure if it is a Whitman. I am not very educated when it comes to holders and albums. All of the albums are full of some VERY nice Lincolns. I have no idea at this point what all they contain but they do have 1909's in them and up to just about every date that really matters for copper Cents. Hopefully someone will chime in on this post regarding these RAYWAY boards which are completely new to me (I believe D.W. Lange has a major interest in holders and boards from some articles I have read). I have not had time to go through any of these coins yet but I did notice several key date Lincoln's in the albums, I'm chomping at the bits right now. The beige "board" holders are slap full of foreign coins. The foreign coins are predominately older and several of them are silver or contain silver. One of the boards is full of nice Canadian one cents dating back to 1941, two of them. The other boards contain Netherland, Canadian, Mexican, Aruba, British, German, you name it, etc..... and there are several really nice tokens in all of this mix as well. It is going to take me some time to go through all of these coins to see exactly what I have. I will definitely be posting some of them for guidance and learning from the experts here as I know several of you on the forum are very educated on foreign coinage. I am very excited to say the least to start seeing what all I just acquired. I know there are a lot of pics but this is what I was extremely fortunate in obtaining this afternoon.
