  1. Wish you luck … it doesn’t looks AU to me the first coin you showed in your post looks VF probably come back detailed for cleaned looking at field around the coin looks lighter shade of color as if someone cleaned it … just saying
  2. @bobbyboshay if you found a 1972/72 double die … believe me you’ll know it , you don’t even need a magnifying glass to see it the doubling is so strong to see with a naked eye
  3. It’s a 1942 … the 1943 copper cent is a rare coin there are many fakes out there as well just be cautious when someone tries to offer you one chances are highly it might be a fake and it probably is
  4. @bobbyboshay there’s was an old saying on here “hope you got thick skin” sometimes the water get murky on these forums … some members who contribute information and answer questions on here take thing the wrong way , I myself never been offended by anyone on here… I tell it how it is I live by those words I don’t sugar coat stuff to make someone feel better if they are offended oh well it is what it is
  5. @bobbyboshay there’s another forum on here in US, World and ancient coin forum under “post your most recent acquisition, US coins” you can post coins of your pictures …. On the newbie section when someone post up a coin it’s normally for questioning some members find it annoying when someone doesn’t post the subject in the right forums , there’s still some members who been here for over a whole year or so still posting their recently purchased coins in newbie section when there’s really nothing to answer on the coin they are posting about … I even still see some members and newbies posting pictures of coins for questioning in the “for sale” forums 🤦‍♂️
  6. And lastly to go along with German 1913 Ludwig 3 (3 mark) the seller also had the 5 mark pattern to go along with it … I had to buy it as well ! It toned exactly like the 3 mark did… Ludwig 3 (1913 5 mark) pattern “silvered” when I get the time I’ll take actual photos of this coin … Updated finally had the time to take a few quick Pictures of the slabbed coin with an IPhone
  7. I had another opportunity to purchase “hard to find” German pattern coins … year ago when I started collecting German coins I was offered a set of these rare Pattern coins 2,3 and 5 mark (solid copper) I turned down the offer I had my mind and money set on other coins at that time … however I came back to same dealer a year later asking about them they were sold ! I regretted it !!! I haven’t seen anymore on market for long while … until other week I giving a unique opportunity to purchase 3 and 5 mark pattern (Silvered) Version which is even rarer to find … here we have a Ludwig 3 (1913 3 mark pattern) the toning on this coin is very unique original toning aged like antique finish … very unique coin to look at in your hand in person ! when I get time I’ll take actual photos of this coin … updated finally gotten time to grab this one out of my collection took quick photo with iPhone …
  8. Next I won in a Bid Weimar Republic Marburg university 1927-A 3 mark graded out PF65 cameo… another nice coin for my German collecting
  9. Been working on my German 3 mark set coming along slowly! I’m little picky when it comes to selecting coins for my collection I choose coins with good toning and eye appeal … Here we got a Luitpold 90th Birthday 1913 Proof 65 3 Mark (J-49) Kurt Jaeger catalog (when I get time I’ll take pictures with my camera or my phone) the color tone on this coin is awesome for proof! updated got a chance to quickly pull this coin out of my collection to take a quick photo with an IPhone .
  10. Doesn’t looked cleaned to me looks like what I call “honest Circulation” it was used as it was intended to be … if your referring to blackish in her hair as if it was cleaned it doesn’t seem so , closer looks angle coin in right light see if all hairlines are going in same direction but by looking at your pictures it looks like an honest VF for the grade
  11. I still see folks driving alone in their car with a mask on ! 😂…
  12. The PAN coin show will be going on at Monroeville convention on May18-20th it’s the spring show … they have one in Fall time as well usually have nice dealer setup it’s a nice show … I haven’t went to PAN show for about 2 years since covid hit https://pancoins.org
  13. Finding true error coins is like chasing a ghost … you can look at thousands of rolls of coins and find little imperfections from coin to coin it’s not worth anything at all nor is it a true error coin … YouTube is full of misguided videos made by some person who has no knowledge of error coins nor coin collecting what so ever … Todays Modern minting technology and machinery basically prevents errors we know or talk about in older classic coinage (but most of that stuff been cherry picked and found a long time ago by error collectors) …Modern coinage you’ll see a slight machine doubling not even an error nor worth anything but pretty common on Modern coinage it’s within the minting process Specs and tolerances
  14. Try Heritage auctions … look up older auction prices for the coin you have in your picture https://coins.ha.com/?ic=Task-coins-My-061722 I’ve found similar coin to one you have but it’s in mint state condition. https://coins.ha.com/itm/ancients/greek/ancients-corinthia-corinth-late-4th-early-3rd-centuries-bc-ar-tetradrachm-28mm-1715-gm-9h-ngc-ms-4-5-3-5-fine-style-/a/3083-32059.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
  15. Out of curiosity @J P M why do you cross out the Cert numbers on your slabs in the pictures? I’ve seen few others do this as well not on here but other forums not sure why they do that… Btw nice Jeffersons 👍
  16. @The Neophyte Numismatist just a question I’ve never done it yet but I was always told NOT to even bother dipping gold just like copper don’t even attempt it …. Does gold change color like copper would when dipped ? however for silver ? I’ll only dip a silver coin that brownish tone kinda ugly or light mottled toned silver coin I’ll dip … I cut my solution light 2:1 ratio … 2 parts of distilled water mixed with 1 part of E-Z-est to dip coins then rinse them in two small containers with warmed distilled water … warm water helps it evaporate faster off the the coin, although I’ll have dip the coin no longer than 10 seconds it takes a few dippings and rinsing in distilled water to get the results I’m looking for… I’ve never had to “full strength” E-Z-est …. However for every raw coin I own I either soak it in Acetone before I put it in a 2x2 holder just common practice to soak of finger oils or contamination off the coin by whoever owned it … as for using a rose thorn ? I’ve heard of museums doing this to clean bronze statues and plaques I wouldn’t attempt do it myself …
  17. @Dan DJ I wasn’t saying you cleaned that coin or anything … just way it was found , just like @Coinbuf stated coins that spent their time in ground come out looking like that … it’s pretty common for metal detectors to find coins that been buried under dirt for centuries pull it up and harshly clean the crud off it with a brush and soap water …. Usually the coin already suffered pitting , corrosion from being exposed to acid in the dirt … so it possible this farmer or who ever you got this tin of coins from was finding very very old coins in the dirt at one time … still pretty a cool coin to have either way
  18. @The Neophyte Numismatist @EagleRJO I agree somewhat with dipped copper it looks awkward pinkish color I don’t know who would want to buy a pink looking copper coin even tho grading company will still grade it unless it was a rare coin or something like that even then it still looks awkward however it didn’t remove any metal harshly it only removed toning which in time will still re-tone back to brown … I have seen coins left in a jars for many years pull couple out of middle of pile or bottom of jar they have what looks like they been dipped at one time or some off odd toning I can’t explain when really it was type of environmental damage the OP’s coins might very much be environmental damage from sitting in in a tin can with bunch of other coins humidity and cold over the years hard to tell if it was really dipped or not I’m aiming toward environmental damage, corrosion , harshly cleaned with a brush or something at one time
  19. I believe I’ve seen a few world coins get the star rating already … very few compared to US coins though
  20. @Coinbuf well explained 👏 it all make sense now …
  21. Then explain to me what real difference between + and what is the real purpose of CAC green bean ? Not the gold , just the green ? I’m lost here I know for fact that what the + was used long before John Albanese started CAC … CAC to me means the same thing as + for that grade on a coin the plus was supposed to be for a coin in upper tier for the grade it was assigned isn’t that same ideology behind CAC green bean … I agree with you that CAC opened a secondary market for coins that was basically what the + was to do but failed at it not all coins merit that + …. I myself own a good handful of CAC coins a…
  22. They must of caught up with it because years ago when they started it there was no way of knowing … that’s why I stated “not sure now a days” I haven’t looked into it much or have it much thought …
  23. CAC supposed to bean a coin they feel is in the upper tier for that grade it was assigned possibly an up shot getting a higher grade … now it already had a (+) grade why even bother beaning it ? The + means it’s already on upper side of that grade but just a hair down from getting the next upper grade
  24. If I remember correctly years ago … it was PCGS that started all the (+) grading (of course PCGS owned by a bunch dealers desperate to make more $$$ and control the coin market) … I believe at first NGC didn’t want to adopt the (+) grade but later NGC caved in and joined the bandwagon on (+) grading… at that time I did notice a lot of PCGS coins graded with (+) compared to NGC grading not to sure now a days I haven’t really looked into it much population wise ? Pretty difficult to determine because when you look up for example a MS65 + coin on PCGS cert database they only show it under MS65 and not MS65+ …. if I also remember correctly NGC announced they adopted the Star (*) however as usual PCGS being snobs like they are in the market said they did NOT want to adopt the (*) star on their graded coins What I find goofy is I’ve seen a few graded coins (+) with a green bean CAC sticker 😒 kinda defeats the purpose of the CAC sticker when there is a (+) on the slab
  25. Star attribute is only based on grader’s eye appeal . Basically a unique coin the grader felt it was cool looking at so they gave it star … I have seen one coin with a Grade (+) star together on the same slab … I’ve only seen one example of that I believe it was a Morgan dollar if I remember correctly … However the Star grade has its small cult followers I know a few people who hunt down and collect star graded NGC slabs … it would be unique is PCGS would adopt this as well but they won’t it would open up a secondary market for star graded coins for their uniqueness …
