  1. Just rip it open ! It’s Not like it’s a roll of precious gold coins … you’ll never know until you open it … I once bought a original federal reserve shotgun roll of 1956-p Lincoln cents I broke it open most of the coins had tiny carbon spots all over them 3 of them in middle of roll were gem , 2 of them had crack skull on Lincoln’s head a friend of mine collects unique doe cracked US coins he wanted them I sold them all to him … never bought another original roll again , was it fun? Eh ? It was alright nothing to write back home about …. But your JFK roll is more modern to me I’d break that roll open any day and not have any regrets about it either
  2. I’d say judging by pictures 64DMPL -64+DMPL … it’s not my coin I don’t have it in hand but judging best I can by photos you provided that what I say it would grade out to be
  3. Actually work 7 days a week if you split evenly if you want … I used to work way more than 83 hours was doing 10 hours on one job and 8 hours on the other job was barely sleeping (had take power naps whenever I could get them) I been cutting down a little on work lately things need done around house …Although I’m still “youngish” in my Mid 40’s (but still older than most of the people working in the bar and kitchen with me) my kids are all grown up and moved out of the house… I guess I can relax a little now a days
  4. Depending on weight scales a lot cheap weight scales can be bought on Amazon (they are okay) but not real accurate but they narrow a coin down within mint tolerances …. OP stated he used 3 different weight scales to determine the weight they were all showing the same results …. my question is , did you use the same weight to “calibrate” all three scales ? If so each scale should of been weight calibrated with its own weight before you set it to Zero …. The problem with these cheaper scales is the little weights they make to calibrate the scale before you use it the weights are not “accurately” made correctly what you can expect from China made scale … a good precision weight scale cost a few hundred dollars not really worth for checking a few coins every year but they are pretty darn accurate when some collectors ask about coin’s weight on here I believe a lot of it has to do with the way they calibrated their scale before they weighed the coin
  5. That’s wild ! Once in a lifetime opportunity very very few ever get to to do
  6. Funny you mentioned that I work at sport Bar , for few friends who own the sport bar they can’t seem to find decent dependable cooks, prep cooks in the kitchen nor reliable bartenders ( I know how to cook , but always said I wouldn’t work in the kitchen for a living ! Some how my friends twisted my arms to come work for them)… there’s that saying “never say never” However for last 3 years I been working at that Bar mostly in kitchen now days cooking and prepping food (we get slammed every night ! Very high pace place) sometimes I also pull a shift behind the bar when a bartender doesn’t show up for work .. I used to have a bad alcoholic problem in my younger days but I got that fixed through counseling and so on a long time ago been sober for long while , I’m able to watch people get drunk and not have that craving I gotta have it too … But the good thing is that 2nd job at the “bar” supplements my coin collection and saving accounts (although I don’t need money badly my day job pays me good) … it was supposed to be a short time gig like for few months 3 years later I’m still there working 83 hours a week between my two jobs (so yeah I’m sorta a workaholic) … so sometimes the bar is a good thing if you go there for right reasons like mine
  7. I have not yet dabbled into Italian coinage as of yet , but I will look into to that when I venture out that way in my collection…. My wife is a Mayan Indian from Guatemala she been wanting me to put a Guatemala coin collection together …. Most of the Guatemala coinage to me looks rather plain Jane looking and over priced for higher up mint state coins , I haven’t yet gotten around to that part of my collection but soon I will maybe prices are high due to scarcity of certain coins? … I have a lot studying to do and buy few old catalog books on Guatemala coinage before I start putting a collection together … I do collect numismatic books from other countries (books on medals , coinage , patterns and so on) sometimes I just can’t find all information I need online that’s why make world coin collecting a challenge really makes me study up on history and so on . I also find paper currency interesting as well from other countries but that’s another topic I haven’t yet dabbled in yet either
  8. @VKurtB if I had to classify best of the best top 3 European countries that made the best classic coinage and medals by designs 1 Great Britain (crowns and Medals ,gold coinage) 2 France (best gold coinage, medals,Tokens) 3 Germany (Talers and medals) the only US coins I like for artistic designs are Walking Liberty half , and Mercury dimes and Buffalo nickels , everything else is So-so to me when it comes to US coinage the style is just too plain Jane of coinage designs for my taste ,even the modern coinage is plain and boring to look at … Although anyone considering investing into high end US coinage for investment purposes? the money is there market wise I can’t lie about that if one’s pocket is deep enough for the high-roller stuff ….I’m myself don’t see my collection as investment purposes or a “retirement fund project” but to each their own… other than that it’s painful to me look at bunch of Lincoln cents , or Seated dimes or whatever… It’s nice know I’m not alone when it comes to the European numismatic stuff the world coin crowd is growing now a days
  9. I collect because I find satisfaction in do it … I also am a sucker for very very elegant artistic coins that an engraver had painstakingly make … which is why I have a love affair for early European coinage now a days (France and Germany) are the Two best countries that produced the best of the best coinage and medals in my opinion … That’s the main reason why I gotten bored of the U.S “over hyped” coinage stuff which doesn’t even come close to artistic looks and style of a beautiful European coin of it’s time and era … Also on another note is history of European coinage is way way more interested in reading up on compared to U.S stuff . I'm not worry about getting rich off my collection either (although there is value in it , but it’s priceless to me) , in fact when I pass on I hope one of my kids take it up I really don’t want a single dime back from it but it gave me enjoyment of putting it together to my liken, but if time comes and I have to sell it ? Then I’ll have auction house take care of it and the kids can have revenue from it … that’s the why I see it ! However I do sell some coins from time to time that only if I’m upgrading my collection it’s not really for making a profit the money is used toward the upgraded coin
  10. These coins were large they suffered the same mishaps as Morgan dollars did when they pounded them out on coin press they fall into bins and as other coins fell on top of them they get gouges from the coins hitting each other that’s what it looks like to me a gouge
  11. No sir , I’m just a humble collector that been at it for 30 years I’m far far far from expert probably never ever will be an expert… I’m always learning and researching and reading as much as I can on US and World numismatic (I mostly focus on German numismatic and Exonumia now a days not so much US coinage)
  12. Where do you come up with this stuff 😂 ha !
  13. You’re spot on , but except NGC world coin registries they don’t accept PCGS unless it’s under custom set …. Not to get to far off topic I Actually feel NGC should do away with PCGS in their registries all together even in the competitive US registries since PCGS does not allow NGC coins at all in their registries….
  14. @Fenntucky Mike I kinda had idea what you were doing … still looks cool and pretty smart I never thought of it until now
  15. I used to collect Buffalo Nickels they were one of my favorite US coins … I would say this one would probably grade out a solid MS63 perhaps if it had more luster (picture you provide seems like the coin is toned duller) which is normal for the age but if it had more luster it would grade out little higher in a PCGS holder … NGC take strikes in consideration more than luster or toning , and PCGS on the other hand likes to go after luster and rainbow toning more than strike when grading
  16. @EagleRJO I see some newer collectors are anxious in a happy way or curious to get a coin graded hoping for that high grade just because they saw one on eBay with a high price tag (doesn’t mean anyone is buying it though) but they assume if their coin graded out that then that’s what it must be worth ! Sounds too good to be true … I urge every new collector to learn to grade raw coins best they can … I do see TPG in a good way helping newer collector when they buy a slabbed coin it guaranteed to be genuine and graded somewhat ballpark “close to the market” grading …. I do suggest newer collectors to buy NGC/PCGS coins and avoid Raw coins at the beginning if they don’t know how grade or see cleaned coins or counterfeit coins for the matter until they work on their skills better … for the records I never paid for NGC membership nor PCGS membership I have no desire to send in coins for grading And if I do ? I’d go with a dealer who already a member have them send it in for me otherwise I would be wasting my precious money on a membership I would never fully use coin submission wise … I could use that money to buy more coins for my collection
  17. You’ll come a time when you realize it’s okay to have raw coins in your collection even tho they may be sent in for grading … is that really important ? Ask yourself that , “what’s the rush to get a coin graded?” If you have no intentions of selling it right away … I often get asked that by novice collectors “should I send this in for grading?” My answer is usually No you can buy them already graded by dealer or another collector selling them save up your money and pay for it outright …. Unless you’re curious about authentication? Then study hard on what you want to send in for authentication and grading keep in mind grading fees , shipping and handling fees , return fees it all adds up to a big bill you may not be aware of when the coin wasn’t really worth grading fees…. Most folks who been collecting for a long time keep in mind they won’t send a coin in for grading unless it’s $150 or more … then again there’s some of us even I myself who own coins that are worth $1,000+ still in RAW condition never been graded yet … why do I buy graded coins ? Sometimes that only route to go for a particular coin I’m looking for in condition I’m looking for … over years I’ve only sent in 3 coins for grading through a dealer that’s is it …everything else I bought was already graded or raw I own both … perhaps someday I’ll get around to sending some in for grading if I plan to sell them that’s only reason I would do it
  18. With my collection I have both Raw ungraded coins as well as a tons of slabbed coins … I ain’t no high roller in 7 figure coins collection , I have US coins raw and Slabbed I also collect German coins Raw and slabbed as well … My kids show no interest in my collection , the future is uncertain if next generations are interested in the hobby of collectibles heck I rarely ever see a teenager interested in 1960’ or 1970 classic muscle cars anymore… Us coin collectors/dealers are keeping the hobby alive best we can good news is there’s still kids interested in coin collecting maybe not in the numbers like we were exposed in 70’s or 80’s and 90’s pretty much early 2000’s after that coin collecting started waning a little ….I don’t see as many kids at coins shows I did in 80’s or 90’s … kids are interested into other stuff not so fascinated into history or collectibles that’s just my opinion . I noticed one trend that seems to never go out of style regardless of generation is SPORTS ! basketball and baseball as football , hockey seems to always have fans of all ages ! Collecting jerseys , helmets , signed balls and so on might still find strong collectibles and buyers in future of that hobby So when I retire I have some thinking to do to probably dump my collection at auction house to sell off give my kids the money or invest it into property or stocks or something for my kids … unless my kids want my collection ? So be it
  19. You’re going have show us some picture before anyone can truly help you on here … A coin is graded by its condition and rarity to determine a “ball park price” what they may be worth on the market …. Some of the modern coinage is worth small premium and most of it isn’t worth anything but old pocket change because nobody interested in buying it … However the older vintage classic German coinage and medals from the WW1 (Weimar republic years) and Third Reich (WW2 and German empire , down to the German states 1500-1800) is worth collecting if you choose to start collect German coins Thalers , kreuzers and so on … I been devoted to entirely to collecting German coins for last 13 years
  20. Wish you luck … it doesn’t looks AU to me the first coin you showed in your post looks VF probably come back detailed for cleaned looking at field around the coin looks lighter shade of color as if someone cleaned it … just saying
  21. @bobbyboshay if you found a 1972/72 double die … believe me you’ll know it , you don’t even need a magnifying glass to see it the doubling is so strong to see with a naked eye
  22. It’s a 1942 … the 1943 copper cent is a rare coin there are many fakes out there as well just be cautious when someone tries to offer you one chances are highly it might be a fake and it probably is
  23. @bobbyboshay there’s was an old saying on here “hope you got thick skin” sometimes the water get murky on these forums … some members who contribute information and answer questions on here take thing the wrong way , I myself never been offended by anyone on here… I tell it how it is I live by those words I don’t sugar coat stuff to make someone feel better if they are offended oh well it is what it is
