Can you expand on what "opposite from what ive seen" means?   I see nothing out of the ordinary other than the slightly misaligned obv.

    Welcome to the forum.
Some of us are leery of clicking on unknown links, so thank you for posting pictures. Hoop is right about your misaligned die strike. Most collectors don't pay much attention to them unless they are severe enough to have letters running off the edge. Cool find, though.

It's a misaligned die (MAD).  Interesting, but not enough for any added value

I stand corrected. Thank you for that information. I will remove my above posts. If you and @GoldFinger1969remove the quotes, my misinformation will not remain on this thread.

Yep.  Got one too. Maybe the guy just wants to move on.  Maybe it was political.  Don't make no difference to me.
As far as I'm concerned Brett did a good job while he was there.

Alex in PA. reacted to Coinbuf in Do you have a "main" and "side" collection/set?
I would bet that at one time or another most long term collectors have several to many side set projects and one or two main sets.   I have 74 registry sets 13 of which revolve around my main collecting focus of Lincolns, the 61 other sets are random coins that I picked up over time.    Most of those other sets are shorter sets including some type sets and year sets like the sets that are in my sig line.
In addition to my registry sets I have many raw sets, Morgans, Lincolns, IHC, Buffalo, Merc, Franklins, gold lots of stuff that I bought because I liked it and then grew.    The only area I stay away from is the modern stuff like ASE's and newer mint products, don't care much for that and have no desire to collect anything other than a few bits here and there from circulation.

...i think that most of us have a "little on the side" , Hoghead u best be careful n not use that phrase, ur ol' lady be putting knots on ur head n we be calling u Knothead...but i digress, collecting just one "set" is diff for any collector, often there is a lull inbetween coins n u start something else because ur bored...n then all our lives n personal interests, fancies, experiences r so varied, the tangents r limitless...my personal "mains" fall into gold sets n silver sets with many "sides" from where ive lived, my historical preferences, n just plain challenges...some registry worthy some just for the heck of it, e.g. my set with "holes"....foreign sets offer vastly diff designs to US sets as well...n then there r tokens, commemoratives n medals....it never ends....thats why coin collecting makes each of us unique n at the same time a community....

Bill, there is shipping, insurance, cost of packaging, etc and the costs NGC stipulates.  If you're not beginning to collect Walkers I'd settle for either a flip or a small, cheap holder or an album where it will tone up.

I've written about the recession of 1921-22 and its effects on coinage many times in my column for The Numismatist, so this factor was not overlooked. In the 20th Century the market for double eagles, and gold coins in general, operated separately from the domestic economy. They were not a circulating medium.

I bought this one at auction for around $120. It graded ms66. Its a fairly high grade. There are several alot nicer but I thought I got a great deal on it. This just an example as far as the cost of grading a AU coin and buying one in mint state already graded.

I know it's supply and demand but i just dont understand why people went so crazy for them. I just bought an 1882 cc silver dollar gsa with box and c.o.a. and these new ones are almost as much as i paid for that. Maybe it's just me but i would rather have something with some history to it that was made with silver from the comstock lode rather than a new one.

There are a fair amount of coin supply outfits that can provide nice, but inexpensive, means of displaying your coin.  It doesn't have to be expensive to be nice.  What ever you decide.  Just enjoy that find.

thanks Alex...I am trying to decide if I should have it graded....I was looking at the rates and am a bit confused...I see there is a "Modern" rate that is about $20 or so but it says value up to $3000....how can I determine its value before I send it....any help is appreciated

As others have said I would just put it in a flip or capsule. Its got some circulation wear and to many dings to grade very high. You can buy one already graded in better condition then what it would cost to send in. Its a pretty expensive process once you start adding insurance and shipping. You have to pay for the shipping both ways. If it were a rare date or something like that it would be different. But the 1945's are pretty common. Still a very cool find. Id take em all day long like that. The holder and display Alex shared is very nice and a great idea.

Perhaps, if @Bill Wynn  would just like to display the coin for all to like, without seeming cheap, he could purchase one of thse for a whopping $9.95......................

I don't understand.  Why wouldn't you want to go to a resource that has dedicated subject matter experts to discuss your new proposal?
I'm sure there are knowledgeable VAM collectors here that can provide feedback, but why not go where the experts are concentrated?
Are you really interested in determining the answer?

Welcome. It was either caught in a piece of machinery and ground down or it was done intentionally by someone. Either way it is just a damaged quarter.
