VKurtB got a reaction from RonnieR131 in 1970 S IMM?
To explain further, when new collector after new collector comes into the hobby with a, ohhh, let's say "focus" on minor varieties ("focus" because "fetish" has been deemed unnecessarily provocative), either from being overexposed to YouTube videos or other clickbait sources of information, and another "variety finder" has been created, who assiduously adds to the supply of such coins without a corresponding increase in demand for them. Not only does this result in low prices, but in continuing to depress the already low prices further. Demand is king, and supply only counts in comparison with demand. How does demand increase? The cynic in me (most of me) says by writing articles or giving talks at major coin shows.

VKurtB reacted to DWLange in 1970 S IMM?
Collectors who have come to the hobby via modern mint collector issues that are essentially perfect and exactly alike may be unaware how irregular older coins are in these small details, even those struck as proofs prior to the 1980s. It results in a lot of coins being submitted to NGC as varieties or mint errors that fall well within the limits of normal for the issue.

VKurtB got a reaction from JT2 in 1982 D Steel Penny
Yes, yes, yes. I have a "steel" or "silver" 1955 cent too. It's plated. just like everyone else's. Doing this plating is obscenely easy and they are all over the place out there.

I’ve been trying to come up with a distinction over what is striking and what is stamping, and I thought I had it once. I figured if the basic macro shape of the item remained the same, then that was striking. Stamping alters the very shape of the piece. But then along comes these verkockte curved coins and I’m back to square one.

No alcohol was involved. I had become a Big Ten Conference fan when Penn State joined. Old habits die hard. Bama is a wonderful program, and fun to watch, but if Bama and Penn State ever went head-to-head again, well..., I dunno. I worked 12 years for the Pennsylvania General Assembly, after all. I'm requesting an Alabama license tag for my car that acknowledges my Penn State loyalty.

This has been done numerous times through even recent history: the Sac mules, the Homestead quarters varieties, the Wisconsin State Quarter extra leaf varieties, Minnesota trees, etc.

Didn’t they also do Schaumburg, IL for that one? Other side of O’Hare. Rosemont has a lot of fun stuff for off hours. The Big 10 HQ is right there, one of those indoor skydiving places, beaucoup good restaurants, and even outdoor concerts.

VKurtB got a reaction from Hoghead515 in Sacagawea Dollar....No Date??
The very INSTANT I'm told I'm eligible, my backside will be joining my arm down at the CVS. I'm 65 and do have comordbidities. Based on today's guidance, I'll be getting jabbed quite soon. Plus, I want to go back to the U.K. ASAP. I've already paid for my Royal Mint VIP tour in advance, and they aren't letting anyone into the U.K. without vaccine papers.

Still getting the house fully set up. There is lots of work keeping me off keyboards.

VKurtB got a reaction from GoldFinger1969 in FUN Show in January
BTW, has anyone noticed how at FUN the messages/lost-and-found desk is elevated like a judicial bench? It sends a message alright. At ANA it's just at table level. BTW, in case anyone doesn't know, at ANA shows there is a fantastic recovery rate for lost and found, including a 5-figure coin on one occasion I know of personally.

VKurtB got a reaction from GoldFinger1969 in FUN Show in January
I have attended a few FUN shows, maybe 2 or 3, plus an ANA one that was held at a usual FUN venue. FUN’s speakers and talks are on a par with ANA’s. Tables for special purposes are another matter. The whole idea of gratis non-commercial bourse tables is a sticky wicket. Tables are the revenue life’s blood of any show. Unless there is either a section for them, like the club tables at an ANA show, or vast numbers of unsold tables, there is unlikely to be any non-revenue tables.

Posting lots of pics is not the object of this exercise. Just one properly placed and photographed is often enough. In this case, all these prove nothing other than what you have already stated you think it can’t be.

VKurtB got a reaction from Hoghead515 in 1934 Washington quarter
Lots more dings on the reverse, especially the left half. Still, MS62 is hard. I see it as a solid 63 myself. Without those left half reverse dings, the obverse was asking for a 65.

Unless the reverse is beat up, that coin is undergraded IMO.

Once you get to Union Station in Chicago, either take Metra to Rosemont, or the CTA Blue Line (station about a block away) to Rosemont. Lots of affordable hotels, many cheaper ones just one CTA stop closer to downtown.

VKurtB got a reaction from GoldFinger1969 in Coin quality and the Pyx
Since there is no longer any precious metal in circulating coinage, the assaying process has lost its primary purpose, but the Brits still do an annual Trial of the Pyx annually, which is held in a courtroom with barristers in the full ostentatious wigs and robes. Gotta love the Brits for the sheer pointlessness of their ceremonies and rituals.

An opinion---
These and similar designations from TPGs are meaningless. They have no relationship to coin quality.
