VKurtB got a reaction from GoldFinger1969 in Once Red-Hot....Now, They're Not: Fallen Stars
Correction: the original issue price was $1210, not $1240. I did Security at Chicago, monitoring the queue. I don’t remember who got the first gold Kennedy graded, but I do know whose clad high relief set was the first one submitted - MINE!

VKurtB got a reaction from Henri Charriere in What is "Natural" or "Original" Toning as Opposed to "Artificial" Toning?
#MeToo. If I believe a coin has had “help” becoming toned, EVEN IF UNINTENTIONAL, to me it is artificial toning. I don’t give a singular 💩 what any grading company does or does not say. I reserve the EXCLUSIVE right to make my own determinations regarding artificial toning. Hint: Yes, this means ALL brightly colored ASE’s are, by definition, artificially toned. Only edge darkening is even slightly permissible. Some edge darkening WILL happen to virtually ALL .999 or higher silver coins, even with industry standard storage methods. One literally CANNOT achieve brightly colored ASE’s without “better living through chemistry”.

Frankly, I couldn’t give less of a 💩 what JA thinks or says if I tried to, and I’d tell him so to his face if given an opportunity. Here is my evidence: I do not own even ONE CAC green or gold stickered coin, nor a single CACG coin, and I have no present plans to ever own one.

VKurtB got a reaction from ldhair in What does "Quality Control/Finalized" mean in grading process?
Does nobody else pay for grading up front? I have never NOT paid up front, by card, with the submission.

An original 1951 box proof set. Even the stamp is cool.

Is that adjunct or “add junk”? As in road rash coins saved because “they’re different”.

VKurtB got a reaction from Henri Charriere in US Mint Gold Coin Production Video - See How Gold US Mint Coins Are Made.
I have one complaint and it’s a quibble. The video implies that it is all done at West Point. It is not. Some scenes are at San Francisco, and some might be at other mints. Correction: quite a few scenes seem to be in Denver.

VKurtB got a reaction from GoldFinger1969 in How many graders does it take to grade a coin?
It takes at least 3 for every grading at a reputable TPGS. At basement slabbers, all it takes is one M-O-R-O-N. To my way of thinking there are 3 and 2 halves reputable TPGS firms. The whole ones are NGC, CACG, and, as much as it pains me, P¢g$. The half reputable, BOTH OF WHICH I HAVE USED ON RARE OCCASION, for valid reasons that took me more than 20 years to learn, are ANACS and ICG.
Even though they are reputable, I have NEVER used either PCGS nor CACG, and I have no plans to use either. NGC fills all my needs in that space.

VKurtB got a reaction from Henri Charriere in The Mystique Of Mistakes On
But there has - seeking as close to perfection as can be found, and discovering that is the true soul of numismatics, rather then seeking imperfection. So am I violating some sacred creed to encourage “collect what you like”? I really don’t believe so. Many people urge others to “practice what you preach”, when the greater sin by far is the failure to “preach what you practice”, a sin that only seen as a virtue by modern “Kum Bah Yah” hippie culture. Not all approaches are equally valid, and they never have been throughout history. There are successful and unsuccessful approaches to literally EV-ER-Y-THING in life, and the failure to preach the successful ones is cruel to the new learners. It consigns them potentially to years of unfruitful pursuits recommended only by clickbait artists.

The mystique of mistakes can be fun, but the mistaken application of mystique is a damnable problem, and far more common.

Yeah,I’m not figuring on making it to 118, but I’m betting these ALREADY looked like this in 1955, when I was born.

2023-P Jefferson Nickel Possible DDR Nickel Doubled Die Varieties
Tilted Hub Doubling: Very nice Class VIII doubling shows above the top step and to the right and left of the center door above the steps. Doubling also shows on TICE of MONTICELLO.
I Have been working for some time on detecting double-die Errors Can someone help me determine which DDR this may be?
I have looked at Brian’s Variety Coins to find a match for the one I have but I don’t see all the Markers to determine this is a WDDR-001. Help

VKurtB reacted to Mike Meenderink in 2023-P Jefferson Nickel Possible DDR Nickel Doubled Die Varieties
I agree with Coinbuf there is no doubling on this coin. You need to learn what real die doubling looks like before you waste anymore of your time. READ instead of searching for something you have no idea what you are looking for.
