  1. I'm really torn on my collecting future. Still love the hobby but I have been buying more raw coins recently. I don't have anything against either NGC or PCGS, neither one has ever done anything to me. The have to make a profit. They need to do something about the journals. Since the change the traffic has slowed to a crawl. I thing the majority of collectors find the new system confusing. It's a shame, I really enjoy reading all of the entries. I have registry sets but am not one of the big hitters so for the most part registry changes don't affect me. They are there more for my enjoyment. When it comes down to it most of us are just collectors. Enjoy your collection, who cares how many points it is worth.

  2. I collect of a lot of German States pieces and the reverse is almost always on the label side. I was told that if there is a side that is more attractive (as Rick said artistic) then that is the side they will face up. Most of the GS stuff has a shield or coat of arms on the obverse but they all are pretty similar. The real artistry is on the reverse. It bothers me more when for whatever reason they ignore this trend. I wonder if it is the person putting it in the holder that makes the ultimate decision. Since the above pictures are of coins that weren't all graded at the same time it could just be that last persons opinion of what should be facing up.

  3. I have purchased from them, even sold to them, without issue. Like was already mentioned, they tend to only deal in high end stuff. Benjamin Bell goes to a lot of the larger coin shows. They used to be almost exclusively a latin american coin company but now pretty much sell any better world coins. They are very knowledgeable.

  4. Beautiful coin. For some reason I am drawn to coins from the George III era. Just picked up an 1800 Maundy set in AU+. Hopefully it will get sent in to NGC in the next couple of months.

  5. I don't think they created a very easy to use system. Being so different from the prior version there should have been a little more explanation of the system.  I use a computer all day but still struggled with the first post. I think it helped that I am relatively new to the community so hadn't used the old system very long.... but it was easy to use.

  6. There is definitely a learning curve for the new journals. In time I think I will like it more than the previous version but it's going to be awhile. At first it was quite confusing to me that you had to create a journal and then post to it. Since this is a big change in procedure to the former version I think it should have been explained a little bit differently.

  7. It depends on what you are looking for. Those magazines are all fine. In my opinion Coin World (monthly) is pretty good. It bugs me that they never finish an article without putting the end further back in the magazine. World Coins is ok, it is kind of sparse. I dropped my Coin World (weekly) subscription because it felt like it was just a rehash of what was in the monthly just without the feature articles. If you just want well written articles and don't care about the coin values you can't beat the Numismatist. It does cost more and you have to join the ANA but it has quality articles every month. Of course there are a number of high quality specialized magazines out there. It really just depends on what you are looking for.
