My son is a big fan of the Samsung brand. I tried one once for a few days but everything was backwards from what I was used to. This is my 1st time having one that's been out less than a year.

It's tough to change but Pixel and Samsung both use Android (Google which makes Pixel controls the Android operating system).  A switch to Apple/iPhone from either is a much bigger change.

  2. I might get an S23 when they come out in a few days....I've never had the state-of-the-art phone when it came out....I usually get a new phone, PC, or TV after it's been out about a year or so.

I could stay with the S9.  Only reason to switch is maybe I'll get better phone service (dropped calls last 2+ years after 12 years of no drops), 5G, and a bit more storage if I get 256 gbytes since you can't add storage with a microSD card (S9 = 64 gigs internal + 128 gigs SDmicro).  So I'd have an extra 64 gbytes which for me is plenty. (thumbsu

The 43 were left out because their "expert" didn't know how the coining dept operated and simply dismissed the signed statement by the Coiner, Bartholomew. It was another of his "orphan" documents. Anyway, it was the defense's demonstrative so they used whatever they wanted to sell their case. This and especially the Switt chart implying that he stole the coins, (no evidence at all!) was more than enough to convince the jury. (I was not permitted to explain how the Coining Dept actually operated in 1933.)

Why do I get the feeling that the government officials prosecuting that case also are in charge of U.S. Balloon Defense ??  xD

  4. Congrats, Karen....the Pixel 6 is state-of-the-art and the camera got great reviews: (thumbsu

For the most part, just use the default settings and you should be fine.  Again, angle the coins at a 30 degree angle and make sure the light is in front of you (avoid shadows) and you should be fine.   Taking coin pics near a large open window during daylight also seems to work.

Ive not got a thing aginst people collecting errors. Im happy for them if thats what they want to do. Its just a big turn off to me seeing all these little cutsie names given to common die cracks and things. Its all over You Tube videos and other places that spew hype to new collectors. Then when a new collector finds a flaw themselves they instantly want to name it. Now just because a die crack touches one of the devices its suddenly a spitter or a wounded victim and is suddenly selling for $1000 on Ebay. And other new collectors pay those high premiums and get taken advantage of because they think that coin is special where its been hyped up because its been named. Then another You Tube site like Couch Collectables who follow those Ebay sales brag that one those sold for x amount of dollars and gets more newbies looking for stuff like that and the process just keep repeating itself. Everytime one these little minor defects gets discovered there it goes again with another cutsie name that makes people who dont know any better think its something special. All I see when I see those is a worn out die thats starting to give out and starts cracking. I cant stand those minor die chip booger noses and other sorts like that neither. Im not telling people not to collect them. Im just speaking entirely my opinion. Collect whatever makes you happy. Its just a big turn off for me when I see some crazy little name given to every little defect. Personally myself I like to collect the nicest condition coins I can afford. I try to find coins that dont have those flaws if I can find them. Seems either quality control keeps getting worse or the You Tube video hype is getting newer collectors believing this junk is something special. Im blaming the internet sites such as Etsy, You Tube, and others.

  6. Very few of us are knowledgeable about ancient gold coins and Islamic (?) gold ones at that.

I would start with an accurate count of the number of coins....then I would ask for the aggregate gold weight (that's your floor, if you sold them all as bullion).

Assuming they are legit and not fakes....and assuming their condition merits a numismatic premium.....yes, you could have some nice value there.  Judging from the pics above, the coins in the picture look to be much smaller than 1 ounce....maybe 1/5th of an ounce or something like that.

There are foreign coin auction sites and other coin auction sites that certainly would have auctioned off coins of this type -- raw or graded -- which you can eventually seek out once you determine the basics (legit or fake, number of coins, weight and size of coins, date or location, etc.).

Generically (not to this poster specifically), I always assume these sentiments are driven by money, not collecting.  I've seen it often enough where it defies common sense that anyone would actually believe it's either that interesting or incur grading fees.

The number of people who come in here with coins valued at under $1.00 who think it's worth 3 or 4-figures is astounding. :o

We NEVER get someone here who has a plain old worn 1927 Saint and thinks he heard that a 1927(-D) might be worth $1,000,000. xD

Pricing a bullion coin is completely different than the one in the OP.  But presumably for both, NGC would have to pay the provider for the data unless they are just going to use a potentially arbitrary premium over spot for bullion coins.  It's not something that should be expected to involve any manual effort.

I'd be happy to input my own approximate price, just like I do my own pics when they don't have one.

The App is pretty nifty, if they make a few changes they can make it very appealing for those of us who aren't into the registry sets but just inventory and itemization of our coins.

No one got complimentary coins. Mint accounts had to balance and the director spent time during several months collecting from officials to whom Roosevelt had sent coins. Mint contingency accounts did not allow complimentary coins -- all hand to be paid for. Augusta got on EHR only because the President ordered one of the two in the Mint Cabinet to be sold to her. The pieces in Barber's personal collection were acquired the same way -- he paid for them.

You would think that the wife of the creator of the coin, who just died, would get one for free and that the government would have "paid" for the coin.

    JMHO.

Barber gets a lot of hate for no reason IMO. Barber was right about the technical difficulties. Even though we have the technology then, I think Barber would've done a better job than some of the mint staff out there now.

Barber was definitely right about the difficulties striking the UHRs....I have to check but the HRs definitely were struck at a faster pace.  At least with those we got over 12,000.

Still, 19 coins/patterns in total is really very few when you think about it.  Oh well, too bad.zzz

  11. MCMVII Ultra-High Reliefs:   In the Ultra-High Relief section....somewhat farcical.....the Mint BILLED Mrs. Saint-Gaudens (Augustus' widow) $20.12 (including postage) when she requested a UHR.

One...cannot believe that they didn't comp her the coin or a few coins. :o  I mean, her husband dies designing what was known even then to be a very beautiful, artistic, and historic coin.  And they send her a bill !!  "Hello Mrs. Saint-Gaudens....sorry for the loss of your husband....we have your coin for you, that'll be $20...oh yeah, we'll need another 12 cents for postage."  Talk about tacky !! :|

Second....for a group giving ASG and his assistants agita, they sure liked those UHR patterns.  I'm surprised given the demand for the coins -- Barber got 8, I believe -- that they didn't strike more for themselves and other VIPs.  Only 19 were struck.  Imagine if they had made a few dozen, if not a few hundred.:(

Ok I have another one. I found a 1982 penny with a blob where the 2 should be🤦🏽‍♂️

Just my opinion....don't waste time or effort looking at or for stuff like this.  It's almost certainly not going to amount to anything worth $$$ or your time....focus on coins or coin types you like and buy those...study those...read about those.

    JMHO. :)

  13. Did I see an error message saying that my coin belonged to someone else or someone else's registry ?  Since they were modern coins (bullion basically) that I bought for < $100.....and I was the original owner.....I was confused.

I don't think I have another NGC login so any ideas what I saw ?  I may have tried to avoid that Login/PW glitch with the cut-off page on the NGC App by creating a 2nd email but I don't think I got that far to add a coin of mine under this 2nd email setup..

I'd grade it "Choice Brilliant Uncirculated", with a numerical range of MS 62-MS 64. If I had to pick a single number, it would be MS 63.

Thanks Sandon...that seems to be where most of the grades for these tend to congregate.  I thought at first glance it might be a 64, maybe even a 65....but upon closer look, too many bag marks. :(
