  1. Just a 'stock photo' error, to be sure.....
  2. In general, it was usually a confusing experience when someone would bring you a coin 'list' for appraisal. Many times the person was not familiar with mintmarks. You would see an 1893 silver dollar listed in the dollar section. How do you appraise that ? It was also usually the case that there were many copies of this list made. So, you not only had an impossible task of accurately appraising the deal, you were competing with every dealer in the phone book. There was always the guy that would offer 'moon' money on the deal, just to get the owner to bring it in to the shop. Then he would back-track and explain and buy the deal for 25 percent of what he originally offered. Of course the exception was the occasional list of mint and proof sets, stuff you didn't need to see.......whoopie......
  3. How true ! Back when 'Parcel Post' was an option, I would see the parcel post tortoise, with a mail sack on his back, making his way along the NYS thruway.
  4. My condolences to your wife. It's always tough to lose people around the Christmas Holiday........
  5. Over the past 50 years, I've examined many genuine examples when given the opportunity. Also, I've seen, literally, hundreds and hundreds, if not, more than a thousand copies. I bought my first copy at our historical society when I was about 8 years old. Everyone on my block probably has one. Go to the Heritage site and look at a few genuine examples. You'll see that that they really don't look at all alike......
  6. It's funny you would say that. I was offered that job about 2 months ago. There's just no way I could change my life around like that......
  7. What a bunch of nonsense. I can't even get the kid at the deli to figure out a third of a pound of potato salad, and they're going to understand 12 decimal places to pay someone a dollar......It won't happen.......
  8. I wasn't able to sign on for a week or so. Finally yesterday I got on......
  9. This half looks genuine. I'd call it a VG/details for the rim bump.
  10. I would find the refund to be acceptable as long as I can still acquire the two coins that I wanted. If it was one of those 'sold out' deals, I wouldn't be happy.
  11. As for myself, BU would indicate a grade between 60 and 70 with no color or toning. Uncirculated would indicate a grade between 60 and 70 with color or toning. That's why numerical grades were born. There wasn't enough information otherwise.....
  12. They look genuine. The half cent has reverse damage, so it would be a details grade. The large cent would grade a 35 to possibly a 40.
  13. I wouldn't be very happy with that 20 centime with a straight grade of 61. I don't know about that grading company.
  14. As a seller, I just hate it when one of my auctions turns into an 'overpriced disaster'.......
  15. I've been working on a design...... The reverse is the skyline of Wuhan, the obverse shows virologist Shi Zhengli, with the motto "I'm your fathaah".....
  16. I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.
  17. Here's one that costs a fortune. Here..... At least you know they exist....
  18. At the card table, it means the last card of a certain value that's left in the deck. For example, when three of the aces are 'out', and a player needs an ace, he's trying to catch the 'case ace'.
  19. This past Winter I got into a little more air gunning. Boy, has that technology come a long way ! You can go as high as a 50 caliber, and it can have suitable velocity for big game. I have a PCP (pre-charged pneumatic), you pump up a cylinder with a hand pump to 3000 PSI. Of course you can use a compressor or scuba tank too. My rifle is good for 40 shots or so with one charge. .177 caliber and 1050 FPS velocity. It's really quiet, and, of course, ammo costs virtually nothing. One way to beat this ammo crises.
  20. That's a beautiful collection. I received an error coin in my change at the supermarket the other day. Of course, I tossed it out of the car window in the parking lot as I left. I could just imagine it joining all the other errors laying in that lot.
  21. It's not something that is easily visible from a photo. You can be quite certain however, if the NGC graders found your half to be whizzed, it is..... I would venture a guess that most of us have purchased such a coin early in our dealings......
