That sounds like a largely pointless starting point. The number of hairlines might not be nearly as relevant as their size and/or placement. And then there are all of the other possible types of flaws and/or grade limiting considerations that need to be taken into account. And who says there was any wiping of the surfaces, after striking in the first place?

Without having viewed these in hand I confess to stirring the pot a little. None the less all the secrecy about how these were struck and even further how these are legal to own just strikes me as odd to say the least.

…or a pecking order? But then what establishes the starting point? The “worst” one is in the hands of the ANA, plus another one, and the “best” one is the Eliasberg.

Maybe a starting point would be how many hairlines [from a wipe with a pocket handkerchief immediately after striking] are visible

Any opinion on the Hawaii Five-O specimen being graded -PF-64=? Look s a bit generous to me. The Eliasberg looks far far better than the grade spread would indicate. Anyone think ANY OTHER DATE otherwise identical would make the same grade?

Market grades do not reflect anything but (at most) an appraisal, agree ?

...plus the Tuskegee and the Washington Crossing quarters, right?

Yes that is what I have, both quarters with hazy toning. I do like the new quarter though because the obverse has returned to original design which gives the impression of higher relief. I think I will keep these because the hazy blue tone is attractive on all (except the dollar coin).

The 2021 innovation proof set i got in the mail is very nice. Every coin is flawless. Cant wait till the reverse proofs come out. Ive been collecting the whole series. So far i have all them in pf and rp. Planning on keeping them all in the OGP. Be a great collection to pass down to my grandchildren one of these days if i ever have any. The beauty of this series is you can easily get them from the mint and they are affordable.

Glad you like these but I'm not to thrilled about U.S. Mint stuff these days. I do like my 2021 Morgan and Peace dollars though which appear flawless. Also have the 2021 Reverse Proof Silver Eagle Designer set that was limited to 100,000 I think. Coins are near flawless but packaging is cheap and substandard compared to the other nice 2 coin Silver Eagle sets from recent years.

@Mohawk  and @Quintus Arrius..... In the respectful effort to help you get your fill of a genuine O Mint Mark (which I TOO had rather see the real deal than a privy....), I decided to post my 1883-O Morgan.  And @MorganMan, your 1883-O is gorgeous!!!  I am fairly new to Morgans for the most part but I adore them and I am still learning about them.  By the way...... if anyone has an 1883-S Morgan they just hate, despise and want to throw away because they are tired of it lingering around...... PLEASE just PM me and I will send you my address. Heck, I will even pay for postage. xD

Sure you want to play ball ? A mint state '83-S is an expensive coin. I used to own a nice AU 55 coin that was decent though.
