  1. At the end of last year I sent in a small submission of coins and opted for the photo vision service rather than sending to Mark Goodman as I would usually do. In part to see if the service was a good value as I had never used it before and partly for the sake of expediency. Here is the thread where I originally asked and then posted the photos done by NGC on the second page of the thread. Photo vision photos Since then I sent in a second group for grading during the covid special that NGC offered and while I was not in love with the first set of photos that NGC did I again opted for the service on this second submission. I must say that I'm much happier with the photos that were done on this second submission than on the first. This group captures the in hand look so much better than the first group, due to file size restrictions I will have to add each photo as a separate reply.
  2. Might be kinda cool looking, many years ago I bought a gold coin form the Canadian mint that had a prismatic hologram on it. I'm not much for colorized coins in general but this was somewhat unique and I do enjoy viewing that coin when I stop by the bank box.
  3. It looks like a hit but the closeup is a bit out of focus so difficult to say for sure.
  4. Those are actually cool bits, I can remember seeing lots of those at shows many years ago too. I don't have a pocket piece myself, I hate to jingle when I walk.
  5. I stopped buying from the mint several years ago due to the high prices, prices now are nuts.
  6. Worth $.05 cents, spend it, as you can see the coin is in a bezel and was part of a jewelry charm or necklace.
  7. I replied to your post on this in the for sale section.
  8. Its impossible to give advice on a coin like that without seeing it in hand, even giving advice from photos would be iffy but better than no photos as of now . Yes you will lose the sticker the way NGC does a regrade is the coin is cracked and regraded raw, you are guaranteed not to drop a grade but the coin will come back in a new slab with a new cert number. If it upgrades you would have to resubmit to CAC for a new review and see if they still like it at the new higher grade. If the coin stays the same grade you would still have to sent to CAC with the old cert for a new sticker which costs $3 plus the shipping both ways.
  9. I think right now there are two or three tops that can afford such a coin, but as you noted none were interested in stepping up. In fact its been discussed many times that Hanson has a history of paying huge money for some coins but not for the extremely rare and uber expensive coins.
  10. Yes NGC does accept PCGS coins into the US coin registry, you going for a MAGA set?
  11. Well we could discuss many of the other coins that did very poorly in the auction. Bruce has posted ATS that he is very happy to hold onto these two and the 1795 gold coin as a box of three going forward. I would guess that it will take a private treaty to move these coin going forward.
  12. Looks like I was wrong about the health of the top end market, perhaps some hesitation due to market and political considerations??
  13. Looks like PMD from contact with a gear or something along that line.
  14. These are an interesting item, here is a link to a thread ATS that will give you some info on the use and design and there are some other links in that thread for additional info also. Martha Washington test coins
  15. Every minute you spend is wasted time, now its your time so its your decision on how to spend it. But I am in complete agreement that what you have is nothing more than a dateless wheatback coin that has no chance of you ever proving your claim.
  16. Yes I saw your post and am happy that you understand the concerns that have been voiced about your recommendations, and if you recall I was the first person to call you out on this. Also you are free to chose any service you want but it seems that your decision to not use NGC is formed around the concept that by not using NGC's services you are somehow punishing the people that have posted. No one that has posted to this thread (or the other thread) works for or represents NGC so if you think that using another TPG is hurting anyone but yourself you are incorrect. And (please correct me if I am wrong here) as I am a member here and ATS I seem to recall a thread over there where you were similarly admonished by members for giving the same advice there, so does that mean that you are also not going to use PCGS to grade your coins? And to be very fair I don't believe I have said your spending monies in the fashion you choose is reckless, that is not my decision to make. What I did say is that advising others who many not understand your motivations is foolish and reckless because it could be a poor use of someone's coin funds. I do not wish you to leave but again that is not my decision, but if that is your choice I wish you well on your journey.
  17. Dont worry about it, some points must be made so harm is not done. The answer is yes there are two which you can find for yourself on Variety Vista. Variety Vista
  18. It is unfortunate that you don't realize just how wrong your statement is. On ebay right this minute I can buy via buy it now auctions two PCGS 1973-S PR68 dimes for $6.99 each and several DCAM's for under $10. There is no way you got your dime certified by any legitimate TPG for less than anyone could buy one for. I am not saying that you cannot or should not submit any coin you want, but examples like this are why you have been told your advice to new collectors to slab everything is reckless and foolish.
  19. Welcome to the forum, it sounds like your dad was a very organized guy so maybe he has a record of what he had and even what he might have payed for each coin. Many collectors (myself included) use a spreadsheet like excel or a simple handwritten ledger to keep track of this info. You might want to do some looking for something like this which might help you with a starting point. We will be happy to help as much as we can if you can post a list of dates and grades with some photos so we have something to go on, you already mentioned it but be prepared for the simple truth that not all old coins are worth high values. Another great reference is the Red Book which you might be able to find at your local library, the pricing in this reference (keep in mind the prices are just a guide) will help assist you in determining which coins have more value than others as you sort thru things. Another possibility is to find a local coin store and see if they are willing to review and offer an assessment of your inheritance. One warning, coin shops buy at steep discounts from retail prices so if possible I suggest you do your homework first before you attempt to visit a shop or accept an offer. Best of luck with your new coin collection.
  20. Hello, I would like to see a few new sets for the Memorial Lincolns and Shield Lincolns. Currently there is only the 59-08 circulation coins including varieties, I would like to see a circulation set not including varieties. Also there is a 2010-current circulation coins including varieties and I would like to see a 2010-current circulation coins not including varieties. Same with 59-current, there is a set including varieties and I would like to see a set not including varieties. It would also be nice to see the date sets of the above also without varieties. Thank you Coinbuf
  21. Thanks, no proofs as this is a registry mint set. To be honest I really am not a fan of proofs and many of the early years are crazy expensive.
