  1. No body is suppressing his ability to express his opinion, although by now I suspect many here wish for that. When you show a coin and experts have rendered opinions biased on many years of research and experience and you throw that knowledge away in favor of your own fantasy you lose any and all credibility. And at least two very real and plausible explanations as to what and how the op's coin came to be have been put forth which the op has also ignored; well regardless of what you think the op not only deserves but has asked for every bit of the animosity and ill will he receives.
  2. Given the condition of the coin it would be impossible to differentiate between wear and tear and any die deterioration that might have been present at the time the coin was struck. Most if not all you see can be attributed to a long and hard life in service, rest easy Abe you have worked hard.
  3. There are all sorts of "market acceptable" coins that have been cleaned, AT'd, doctored, insert what ever term/phrase you like. It all comes down to how rare it is, the more rare the more the problems are overlooked. At the end of the day if the coin was going down a bad path due to PVC, or some other corrosive environmental substance that can be stopped by the use of something like acetone or even a mild dip then I'm fine with that. What I do not like is when the metal is changed, or crayon colors are added, that type of "enhancement" and "market acceptability" is not ok in my mind.
  4. Probably have better luck cutting yourself with a butter knife that those rims, or were you talking about the car??
  5. I don't see any doubling in your photos.
  6. I have read that he is going through a nasty divorce and assets must be sold. I found it interesting that with his close relationship to Legend that he chose Heritage, got a better deal perhaps?
  7. It would be very interesting to send them back the TPG that called them fakes as a crossover submission (assuming that the og TPG will accept the new TPG slabs for crossover) and see if they still feel the coins are counterfeits. Really you are not obligated to do anything, the TPG that certified the coins has a guarantee so they are comfortable with the risk and legally you and your customer are relying on the TPG's expertise. But there is the moral issue since you know that one TPG took issue with the coins, which TPG do you have more confidence in?
  8. Maybe, I see what looks like some MD but a few of the letters seem to have the characteristics of a DDO. Problem is I cant match your coin to any of the known DDO's for this date on VV.
  9. Those photos are not good enough to even attempt a grade, and quite often seller photos like that are done to purposely hide something.
  10. I'd suggest washing your hands after handling that one.
  11. I agree but that area is super obvious and really highlights how the top NGC photo does not show this issue.
  12. Ok these last two photos are the best you have shown and at least the coin does not appear to be polished in these. I will not attempt a grade guess but the 1916 as a new design was heavily saved and there are tons of high grade examples, over 2k in MS65fb alone between NGC and PCGS.
  13. Your last photo tells the story; unless these lines I've circled are on the plastic holder this coin is 100% cleaned. That is the thing about hairlines, you have to get the coin tilted into the light just right for it to show up, this area looks ok in the NGC photo.
  14. I am no expert in gold coins of this era, but the overall mushy appearance of your coin is setting off the fake alarms in my mind.
  15. Very common on cents from that era, the master dies were worn out and the mint used the working dies to death. The result is coins that started out with weak strikes and then got worse as the working dies deteriorated which results in this type of die deterioration doubling.
  16. I suggest for transparency that you post the photos you posted on the PCGS forum, these two do not tell the whole story.
  17. Looks cleaned to me, there look to be hairlines on the rev with a large patch of them just left of the eagle's wing above the branch. The obv also seems to have a couple of areas that look off but I cannot be sure on those, the lighter area just above the cap and right in front of the nose. Maybe those are a lighting issue?
  18. Well in all his ranting the OP did get one thing right ego is clearly involved; the only problem is that it is the op with the ego issue not those who have replied. Farewell to you Richie may you find a new forum to troll soon.
  19. If you have a modern cell phone you probably can get better results with that than you will with the coolpix. If you do a search there are a couple of threads with good pointers on how to use both iPhone and android style phones.
  20. Happy to help, just a suggestion if you can post clear in focus photos of both sides of the coin we might be able to give you some guidance and help you determine if the coin is valuable enough (and not a fake) to be worth sending in. Whatever you chose best of luck.
  21. Hello and welcome to the forums; it sounds like that dealer is close so I would call and see about stopping by to discuss the coin you have. Keep in mind that just because a dealer is affiliated with NGC he/she is not obligated to send in coins for customers. Also you can join the collectors club here for $25 online by going to the NGC main menu and click submit for a drop down menu and submit again and then how to submit. The associate level allows you to submit your coins directly to NGC, just follow the instructions or contact customer service if you have any questions.
  22. So lets deep dive into your amazing Lincoln, btw I am a Lincoln collector and have been for over 20 years so I do know something of the series. I have no idea why you received grade guesses as low as MS62, perhaps your photos were not clear, perhaps your badgering of this dime nonsense made it easy for people to give low guesses because they didn't believe you or just wanted you to go away. It is also possible that the coin you show in the slab was not the coin you asked for a grade assessment on, I have not seen the thread where you asked and provided photos so I'm just pointing out some possible scenarios. But whatever the case the 1963-D is not rare in MS66RD PCGS has graded 247 with 30 higher, NGC has 453 with 9 higher, it retails for $50-$60 so you will be lucky to break even on it after the grading fees. These are just facts and I'm not tearing down your coin because it looks nice but it is not rare or monumental in any sense. And of course PCGS will be happy to take your money and reconsider your coin as they will any PCGS graded coin, but that does not guaranty an upgrade, only that it will get a second, third, fourth, or as many looks as you are willing to pay for. As to your dime I very much doubt that it is any sort of mint error, and in all honesty as you have demonstrated the ability to submit to PCGS so it appears that you know it is not what you claim. It seems that it would be worth having it graded just so you can throw it in the face of all these experts if for no other reason. Looking forward to your posting your grade results or seeing you on the PCGS forum in two years. Oh and just to mention the rims mean nothing those could have been protected with some tape while the surfaces were blasted, easy peasy.
