  1. I too think that @Fenntucky Mike is correct you may have found a true mint error. My suggestion is for you to contact one of the better known error dealers and ask them for an opinion on this.
  2. This is an obvious fake, now given that you were in a poorly lit casino (not a place to buy coins by the way) it may have seemed more legit at that time. But really you did not get taken advantage of you allowed your self to be taken advantage of. There is a difference. Its nice that you wanted to help out another person, and in the greater scheme $10 is really not going to be much of a loss for you or most, but you could have actually helped several truly struggling people by donating that $10 to a food shelter. In the end you have a $10 paperweight and instead of helping a struggling person you enriched a con man.
  3. If this is a coin you really want to buy I'd ask the seller (if on ebay) for some new photos. It may be PVC and then again it could be a reflection in the photo. If you are not able to get new photos or some assurance from the seller that the green is not there then I'd look for another coin too. Edited to add: From my understanding of how the NGC guarantee works you have no recourse with them if this is PVC, just food for thought.
  4. Thanks for the kind words fellas. I have not run the numbers but getting to the 6 slot (assuming those four in front don't improve) I am guessing will cost $2,500 to $3,500; so not a huge investment but not cheap either. I did not include the number five set in the photo but it is almost exactly double the points of my set, so getting to and passing that five slot would require spending double or more what I currently have in the set. That does start to add up to a lot of dough, and from there I would need to double that point and dollar total to even get to within shouting distance of the top slot. A very big task to be sure and one that I know I'll never be able to achieve. I know that none of my Lincoln sets will ever win any awards, but I love the series so I collect them anyway knowing that its the enjoyment that drives me not the awards. But I think that being in the top ten here in the NGC registry puts my set(s) in the top 50 of all Lincoln sets that are out in the hands of collectors. And that in of itself is not too shabby and I'm very happy with that.
  5. Yep Lem is correct the Dansco #8125 includes the clad and silver proof issues, However I do not think that it is currently available and that might account for why you could not find one, that said the Littleton you did purchase should do just as well at a much more friendly price point.
  6. This year I have been slowly adding Lincoln memorial coins to my collection and was able to move the memorial set into the top ten slot. I think I could over the next few years move up a few slots but I do not know if a top five set is in the cards for me. Anyway here is a snapshot just for posterity sake as I could just as easily be pushed out of the top ten soon too.
  7. I hope that everyone has a happy Thanksgiving and is able to spend time today/tonight with friends, family, loved ones. Truly a day to be thankful for all our blessings, and a safe journey to all that are traveling over the holiday.
  8. Wow that is beautiful, great artistry displayed on this piece be it a coin a medal or perhaps a commemorative of some type.
  9. Dang it has been awhile sine I looked thru this thread, you guys have been posting some great gold!
  10. I wish I had something more unique to post, but as I do not this bird will do.
  11. Good to know sir, on a more serious note it is unfortunate that you needed to block a member. I have done that only once myself and that member no longer participates here so not an issue for me any longer. I try and respect all the opinions that are voiced here but I do understand that it can make the forum a more enjoyable experience exercising that option when the need arises.
  12. Beautiful additions @Lem E you have a discriminating eye and your Jefferson collection is full of outstanding coins.
  13. Wow hard to believe that the registry cutoff is just a week away, this year has certainly gone by quickly. As I look back I had no specific goals other than to try and add or upgrade to my existing sets in order to hold onto as many of my first place awards as possible. Looking at my sets now it seems like I have actually lost some ground in that regard and will have fewer awards for 2021 than I did in 2020. Partly because I spent some time and money adding some memorial and shield Lincoln coins which was (and is) not a major focus, yet still my OCD gets the better of me at times as I would really like to finish the full date/mm run from 1909 to current. An insane number of coins that is currently at 293 coins and counting, absolute insanity to complete the entire run and a goal that I would abandon if I had any smarts. I also spent more and upgraded more coins in my 1940 date set than I had planned to do, but the friendly competition from the former 1st place set; who wants to be back in 1st place; had me doing more to defend the set. That is a good thing as I added some amazing coins to the set, but it also diverted some funds that I would have used to improve other sets. I did lose ground on a few sets as it seems that a few gold bugs put together some sets in the early 20's year sets, well not really sets as most of those sets only have one two or three coins in them. But those high grade $50K gold coins really rack up the points and it makes competing with them next to impossible as I do not have an unlimited budget. That is unfortunate in a way as I now have to decide what to do with those coins, I could keep them and just leave the sets as they are. Or should I sell those coins and move on to something else, tough call and I'm just not sure how I'll proceed just yet. All in all it was another nice year and I am blessed to care and provide the stewardship of the coins I have in my collection. Like many I am grateful that I have my health, too many have been lost to Covid and other diseases over the past year. And whatever the next year brings I will continue to enjoy the friendships that I have made within the hobby and the coins in my collection. For sure there is still much to be done in the way of better photos and descriptions for many of the coins in my collection and that will be a continuing focus each and every year. Happy Thanksgiving and a joyous Christmas season to everyone here.
  14. Thank you Lee! It is amazing how nice that date comes, it may be the easiest date in the wheat reverse design to find with such a detailed and full beard.
  15. Not quite 24 hrs but here it is, as I thought the guesses are in a tight range either 63 or 64 and NGC said 64. If this was not a GSA CC coin I think it might have been given a 63 or 63+, it does seem that often the GSA CC dollars get a slight break. @Just Bob your thoughts are spot on, the coin presents better in hand than it does to the camera lens. The combination of the large photos and the low light angle tends to magnify the marks in the photos. In hand there are only a couple of hard hits/digs most of the rest are light grazes and do not detract very much. Thanks everyone for your participation.
  16. Morgan dollars are the most overvalued imo, absolutely nothing rare about any year/mm. A full set can be put together in an afternoon at any large show if you have the money. Tough call on the undervalued right now as everything is moving up, but I guess I'd go with 3cn. Not a series that much of anyone has any interest in these days, a type coin here or there and that is it.
  17. I have not paid any attention to these in terms of any reported errors, I have read of some rather poor quality but mostly with the D mint coins. It looks like a scratch or a strike thru, more like a strike thru given that the line goes between the denticles and up on the rim. The part that is around the mouth looks somewhat like a clash, but I'm not at all sure on that. If NGC were to consider it a strike thru then I would guess that they would note the error on the slab. The only way to know is to submit noting the error, pay your ticket and see what comes out the other side.
  18. For this thread the subject is a GSA Morgan graded by NGC. I doubt this will be that much of a challenge but it seems slow around here this week. Some closeups and the full holder shots too.
