  1. This. This right here. This is the only advice to listen to on this topic. When I worked at the brick and mortar coin shop, I cannot tell you how many otherwise desirable coins I saw ruined by cleaning attempts. If you have to ask about this topic, definitely don't attempt to clean any coins.
  2. I like it Bill!!! Looks like it will do a fine job of storing your collection. I don't grade my ancients and I keep them in 2x2's, as you keep your coins. I like to use these little stockbooks for my collection: https://www.ebay.com/itm/274737358064?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=274737358064&targetid=1262779895009&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9005616&poi=&campaignid=10455978148&mkgroupid=122766957832&rlsatarget=pla-1262779895009&abcId=2146002&merchantid=6296724&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItLGCvPrj8gIVBPjICh0ZxAzaEAQYAyABEgIO9PD_BwE But I think your solution will definitely hold more coins!
  3. Hi again Hinkle!!! I'm thinking you have some die chips and possibly a couple small die breaks as well. I've seen a lot of this kind of things in Lincolns, especially when you start getting to the 1934 and later series where the mintages become massive and the dies were used for way too long.
  4. Hi Hinkle!! Glad to see that you're still here with us after my long absence!! As I've typed a lot as of late, I think Coinbuf nailed this one too.......small strike-through or die scratch.
  5. Sounds like your roll hunting is a productive venture, Bill. I get to roll hunt weekly when we do our laundry, and I haven't found anything cool in quite a while. Kudos!
  6. Hi Vero!! It's very good to see you type this......this means you have the absolute correct mindset to be successful at this whole numismatics thing!!! That's a huge thing.....you need to have the foundation to build the house. As far as your 1991's, Coinbuf nailed it. But keep looking....there are things out there to find and each coin you look at teaches you a little more. Best of luck!! ~Tom
  7. You're welcome JAnsley!!! In looking at your new photos, I think your dime has environmental damage on the obverse. The reverse is quite nice, though. Still, definitely a good find in an eBay Wheat Cent roll!!
  8. I've been thinking about this one for a little bit, and I'm thinking machine doubling as well. But, like Coinbuf said, definitely double check the Variety Vista link
  9. It really does look abused, doesn't it? I can't imagine why someone would spend the time to do that......but I think you're likely correct, Kurt. But, then again, I don't understand why many people spend as much time doing many things that they do.......
  10. I'm with the others......that is a nickel that has had a very difficult, very rough life.
  11. I love it that there's finally a denarius here that isn't mine!!! It sounds like your younger days were far more eventful than mine were It's a gorgeous piece.....thanks for sharing that Tigerbait!!
  12. My latest pickup....Jonathan (JKK) turned me onto this one, so I have to give him major props here!!! This is a silver denarius of Faustina the Younger, RIC# 712. It is one of the more difficult lifetime issues of Faustina to find.....I've been looking for this denarius for a while:
  13. Hello and Welcome!!! Greenstang is right....we definitely need pics to tell anything. It's impossible to discern anything meaningful about coin, token or medal from just a written description. And, yes, please do post photos of this coin when you receive it back......I'm curious as well.
  14. Hello and Welcome!!! I'm with the others on this one......you have a dryer coin.
  15. That's interesting to hear, Kurt. Seeing as how I'm in Upstate New York, they seem to have spread far and wide. I've also seen a glut of 2021-P dimes in my area as well. The weird thing is that I've only seen a handful of the 2021-P Tuskegee....maybe like 10 or so. But tons of the 2021-P WCDs....probably into the hundreds when I account for how long we were getting solid rolls of them for our laundry.
  16. Well, if you're looking for WCDs, I wish you luck!!!
  17. We've had an absolute torrent of 2021-P WCD quarters in my neck of the woods!! We do our laundry at a Laundromat (no laundry hookups in our apartment....great apartment with an amazingly low rent cost though) and for about a month almost all of the quarters we got were 2021-P WCDs. It was crazy!!! The glut seems to have worked itself out now, though. Lately, we've been getting what looks like a bunch of cashed in State Quarter collections.....fun, fun.
  18. Hello and Welcome Vero!! The others have it right.....your cents are within the accepted tolerance.
  19. There are some people that will only see what they want to see in all areas of life, and this seems especially true of coins. Think of how many people show up in the Newbie thread thinking their parking lot coin is some rare error and the dig in their heels or try harder to sell their point of view to us when they're told that it's a damaged parking lot coin. I think that this comes into play here as well.......if someone wants that garbage Peace Dollar to be a real DMPL, then it will become so in their mind and if there are more than one of those seeing it on eBay, then it will get bid up. Sooner or later, though, the "winner" of that auction will be in for a reality check and a rude awakening......if they choose to believe the poor dealer or other numismatist who has to deliver the bad news.
  20. Actually, it just dawned on me that I have something that may be a token. At least, sort of. This is what is called a limes denarius. What this is, is a denarius, but struck in some sort of copper alloy metal instead of silver. The thing is that it's not known decisively what they really are. They could be contemporary counterfeits, semi-official issues used along the borders of the empire where coinage could be scarce or, possibly, military scrip of some kind. Because it may be official military scrip, I decided I wanted one, and which is why it may actually be a token. And please forgive the less than stellar seller's pics......I used those so I could get it in at least close to actual Token Tuesday. My limes denarius is made in the image of a Faustina the Younger denarius (surprise, surprise), RIC #690. I'm sure we'll never know for sure, but I like to think mine is a souvenir of the Marcomannic Wars.
  21. This is a cool thread.....I don't have a single token to share, but I've enjoyed seeing the ones posted. Thanks for sharing those everyone!
  22. I'm glad to hear that you will remain, even if it is a lower profile. I, for one, appreciate your acerbic tongue and wit quite a bit!! You've given me quite a few chuckles and grins and I really do love your take on things. BTW......how is your wife taking your sudden discovery that she exists and that you're married to her? As for Roger's prophecy......it just might come true. I'll admit that I know next to nothing about gold Roosters (my Faustina addiction is numismatically all consuming), but I'm sure if it does happen, you or he will let us all know.
