My 20th Century Type Set

Signature Series -- What a great idea! I have lamented in the past about the inflexibility of the competitive registry -- namely, I can't afford to buy the gold coins needed to complete the 20th century set! What a cool place this is

My first impressions of this web site I have been a member of this registry for about a week now. What fun it has been to enter my coins into various collections and compare my scores to more established collectors. As I typed in all the numbers, and some more than once , I realized how scattered my collecting had become. re: Toning or Corrosion

my 25c worth what i've heard, and my experience with mod proofs seems to support this, is that the mint's casing can cause the toning (which, is a form of corrosion, insomuch as it is a chemical reaction between the silver, or whatever else, and the outside world, ultimately changing the coin). now, when i've sent my coins with mint-bequeathed toning, they have all been graded (one even ended up with a PCGS 70). thus, at least without seeing them, this is what i can tell you.

Toning or Corrosion

Coloration on some silver proof quarters... I'm finding some of my Silver Quarter proofs some orange/brown coloration showing. Is this the coin getting toned or am I seeing the beginnings of corrosion? I was thinking of sending them in for slabbing but I don't know if I want to pay $12.50 for NGC to tell me that it's a no-grade...

HATS OFF TO THE US MINT

Ordered the 2006 CLAD proof sets on 1/17-06 They were delivered today at 10.30 by UPS less than a week to get here.The 2 sets are A OK. The SOUTH DAkota has on the MOUNT RUSHMORE a Problem on the George Washington nose on 2 of them.1 is pefect possible PF-70. Also thr 3 NEBRASKA Has doubled letters on the CHIMNEY ROCK letters. Updated my 1866 registry with a few photos and coins, will be adding more photos in the next month.

I have been building this set for 19 years. I just recently got back into focusing on it, with in the last year. I am now going to be upgrading and adding. I found this forum where I could share with others, what has been a life long project. My goal is nothing less then an xf 45 gold coin or better. As far as the rest, mostly MS, with the occasional AU. I originally wanted nothing less the AU coins, but this will be financially impossible. The price jumps are horrendous in the gold. from xf45

Venting was my option and NGC had NO PART in it...... Although I stand behind my words I see no reason for any futher contact. Trust is an earned and very objective thing to extend on any level. Great tip! By golly, you can teach an old dog new tricks. Clay mentioned that we can, indeed, delete out own journal entries. I followed his directions and by golly he was right. Many thanks for that tip. As for Island Antiques, seeings how the rest of his journals are intact, we can hope that he has had a positive contact with NGC and they will come to a mutally beneficial agreement. Yes you can! You can delete your Journal entry! Just go to your journal entry, click on EDIT, at the bottom click delete! I too wondered what happen to that entry. When I've had a problem with NGC, I just contact them and they fix it.

"Magic"?

Disappearing journal Is David Copperfield somehow affiliated with this site? Can someone make journal entries disappear? Island Antiques made an entry claiming that he (or she) received the incorrect coins back from grading at NGC and stated that he (or she) was finished with this site and NGC. That journal entry has vaporized. If, in fact, NGC screwed up that badly, I am rather uncomfortable. I have coins in for grading at this time. If Island Antiques was wrong, I will not worry.

Values are always changing... The value of modern coins is unstable due to the Changes in demand and supply that needs time to settle out. Has anyone noticed the drop in price of the American Legacy that up until a few weeks ago you could sell on ebay for $325+ ? You can pick one up consistantly for under $200!!! Numismedia Prices = Fair Market Value...

Who are they trying to kid, or worse, rip-off? I dont know about you but I like to try and keep tabs on my collection. I try to upgrade when I can make a reasonable purchase and I always watch the values of the coins in my entire collection, not just registry coins. Have you noticed a major drop in NM values?? I sure have. I have several of the Statehood Quarters in PF70UC and in the last 6 weeks or so, some have dropped in NM price by over 50%. Just before Christmas the Alabama quarter

99% and Counting

Need 2 more photos to be 100%. Well, it's taken a month of weekend days to finish photgraphing, cropping and posting my coin collection. But I am nearly there! Until Michael's first scolding journal entry, I was one of those that just enjoyed others collection photos without sharing my collection. His posting opened my eyes and now I am 2 coin photos away from having 100% photographed. To all thinking about it. It is a good way to get a good close look at your collection.

Fact About Images and Descriptions

Is anyone aware that images and descriptions count toward your postion in the registry? I was puzzled by why a person with the same score as I had in the 1992 proof category was rated one position highr than I was. After an email to NGC, I got a reply taht stated that if there is a tie in score, the person with more images and descriptions will be rated higher. If both have the same images and descriptions, than the one that was at the position first gets the position. So images and descrip

PCGS knows how to corner their side of the market.... It's funny to me that a 70 in a PCGS holder costs $750 and NGC at $500 for a particular coin. Look at who's putting the prices together. PCGS puts their price guide together and NGC has the more independent NumisMedia group do that. PCGS can say all they want. Yep.. higher prices to grade, our coins get higher prices..Of course they are going to look attractive to collectors, and they can possibly take more of your money in grading f
