A Different Item For the Wild, Wild West Set

You can teach old dogs new tricks... ...or in this case, an old dog can find another fascinating facet of our hobby.I was browsing on Teletrade, and found a "So-Called Dollar" medal. Evidently it was issued to commemorate (according to the auction description) the 1898 Trans-Mississippi Exposition, which was held in Omaha. On the front is a left facing female bust. However, it's the reverse which makes this medal fit into my Wild, Wild West set. The reverse shows a mounted Indian (I would assume

End of an Era I had the pleasure of talking with The President of NGC Rick Montgomery on April 21. We discussed several issues. Although there was no resolution to these issues, it was nice of him to take time to chat with me. I would like to share my thoughts on this conversation. Mr Montgomery is well spoken and affable. It is clear to me that he is committed to NGC. For those of you that will continue to use their services, you should know they receive and grade 100,000 coins a month. A

RE: PCGS pricing

The price in for PCGS certified coins PCGS price guide reflect PCGS certified coins. Some dealers sell MS69 eagles graded by them or some other company (NNC, PCI CCGS etc..) but if you resubmit them to PCGS they might come back as 67 or 68. So there is the price difference. And I am sure if somebody buying certified silver egale they do not pay exact the price but usualy less.

Re: Body Bag

Don't expect an email response. Don't expect an email response, wigglebutts. There is little line of communication between NGC and its customers. And when they are wrong, do not expect any communication whatsoever. That has been my experience, I am sorry to say.

re : BU - RedBook

BU starting on MS60 In my opinion BU is starting on MS60,61 Choice BU 62,63,64 GEM BU 65,66 REDBOOK is just the a guide because it is printed ahead of time and the price of silver and some of the coins is changing daily. I think Numis media and PCGS price guide is much better and accurate.

Registry set of Morgans

Those CC Dollars help Just started my Registry set of Morgan Dollars. I am going to try and keep 95 percent of the set mostly MS64 to MS66. I have included some PL and DPLs'to the set. I am not an investor that is going to sell the set when it is completed, but hand it down to my grand-daughter. After adding two Carson City Dollars to the set, I have moved up to 196 with 12 percent of the set completed. Will get the the rest of the CCs' soon. Hope to add an MS64 1893 to the set next week, but

I think I got the bargain of a lifetime

A "TOP POP" NGC 1963 MS67 cent with only 4 existing, and I got it for a steal. I was checking my eBay favorite searches when I noticed something way down at the bottom in one of the fixed price listings. It was a 1963 Cent graded by NGC as MS67RD. The "BUY IT NOW" price was $219.95. I knew I wanted one for my registry set, but I didn't have any idea what it was really worth so I got onto the Collector's Society website and checked the population report. It told me that there are only 4 exi

Body Bag

Art colorization Well, well, well. I received my 1931S Lincoln back from NGC in a body bag. Curious as this coin had a strong strike, full luster and virtually devoid of bag marks. They provide art colorization as the rationale. WTF this coin has uniform color (maroon) on the obverse and reverse. I contacted them and to please review this coin before returning it to me. I had checked the website for my status early in the morning and it was still in QC. AT 800am I find it has been finalized.

GOOD NEWS .....OR BAD?

AS THE PRICE OF SILVER AND GOLD CONTINUES ON THE INCREASE, HOW LONG BEFORE COINS START DISSAPPEARING FOR THERE MELT VALUE??? Now, I know that collectors are not going to have their high end coins melted down. But what about those who have a hoard of coins stashed away that were collected in a jar over the years. Or those who were handed down a cigar box of coins and have no idea that a rare/collectable coin may be included. I really get concerned when metal prices skyrocket. I just know that f

New Signature Set

21st Century Type Coins! OK, so the set is a little boring right now, I mean it only comprises six years worth of coinage. But if there can be 19th century and 20th century type sets why not start a 21st century set? I feel almost guilty leaving out the 1999 state quarters. My real dilemma is, should I include the 1st Lady gold coins when the presidential dollar coin series begins? Any thoughts on that?

Additions to my Wild West Set

What I really want for Christmas is... not my 2 front teeth. However, I would really like to be able to add graded currency to my Wild, Wild West set. I can think of 2 examples right off, one being the Indian Chief large size $5 silver certificate. The other is a large size $10 Legal Tender note that features a bison flanked by Lewis & Clark. Both of these notes would be such a great addition to my set. I certainly hope someone at NGC sees this journal entry and helps me out. I can only wi

Ike set complete

Ranked number 6 I finally have completed my Eisenhower Proof Registry Set. All coins in the set are PF69uc. While the set is currently ranked number 6, I will try to upgrade. This will be hard as I will need PF69uc* (Star) or a PF70. Those 70's are pretty spendy items. I wonder if I have any old, rich relatives that could leave me money in their will?? Just a thought. I have attached a link to my Ike's http://www.collectors-society.com/registry/coins/PeopleSetDetail.aspx?PeopleSetID=167
