Love the dime!

It's funny I was just thinking as to whether or not I should start to collect the Canadian nickles and dime series in circulation. Then fill in the ones that I cannot find on E**y. As I spend a lot of time in Canada on business I can go to the banks and buy rolls. I just recently started collecting all the small cents from 1920 to 2012 there are a lot of variations to that series and I am sure if I did the research more likely in the dime series as well. BTW I am kicking myself for not starting sooner on the pennies as I have been up there on business for 22 years!

Oh well, I am sure many of us were attracted to a series and started later than we ought to or could have!

Back on topic, love your dime!

B. Pistrucci designed the official medal for Victoria's 1838 coronation but also produced a larger version with a similar image of Victoria. This is BHM #1802, 86mm in copper.

Purchased this Italian coin from a dealer in the UK. The thing is so darned lustrous, it's hard to photograph!!! I really like the design, which commemorates the 2000th Anniversary of the Death of Virgil. San Marino also issued a coin (a 1000 Lire) in 1981 commemorating this, and it also has a horse on it The coin is basically as struck, with just a small dark spot near the horse's rear hoof on the reverse.

The information that came with the packaging of the coin states the following about the reverse design:

al centro un albero, simbolo della fertilità; ai lati le figure affrontate di un bue che rappresenta il lavoro nel campi e di un cavallo, simbolo della poesia epica; sulla sinistra del piano “19 A.C.”; sulla destra “1981”; nell’esergo “L. 500”; al di sotto “R”.

And, my translation:

A tree at center, a symbol of fertility. To the sides are represented two figures; An ox that represents working in the fields, and a horse, the symbol of epic poetry. To the left in the field is "19 B.C.", to the right "1981", and in exergue "L. 500" and "R" beneath.

Just purchased a circulated set of Canadian 1958 to 1920 large cents at a recent coin show. Total of 43 with the H mints in Wayte Raymond coin boards here are only a couple of the pics. Since the site limits me to 5 pics. The last one is from 1919 King Gerorge V.

wowzers nice newps!! BRG why was the farthing there? It has no horse or for another collection?

I've always been a fan of the young Victoria coinage. This one I just picked up because it's beautiful. I don't only collect coins with horses. ;)

Rainy day in the Northeast

I am learning how to photograph coins so I thought it was time to try some of my recent French and Swiss 20 franc NGC MS-66 purchases. Here they are for everyone to enjoy!

Picked up a nice NGC MS65BN matched set of Lundy Puffin and half-Puffin pieces. These were minted in quantities of 50,000 each back in 1929.

Looked almost 2 dang years for this one. This is only a two year type coin, minted in years 1955 and 1965. This 1965 coin was minted in only 100,000 pieces, as compared to the much more common 1955 piece minted in a quantity of 1.5 million coins.
