For Those Who Just Ordered the UHR 2009 Saint-Gaudens ...

372 posts in this topic

My book came on Monday. I even posted about it on this thread:

I just got my book this morning. Signature confirmation. It's kinda interesting, but it's definitely not worth a signature confirmation for something that looks like it'd cost $3.99 at a bookstore.

The thought of getting a PL does make the idea of ordering another appealing... hm

I wonder if a PL finish is a result of a fresh die or a polished planchet or if it'll even happen again.

I received my NGC MS69 PL UHR from Modern Coin Mart. Both obverse and reverse have nicely reflective prooflike fields. The devices have a bit of contrast, but do not have the strong cameo effect of an American Gold Eagle proof.

Word is they are only getting 500 coins per die set.

You would think the brand new coins from new dies are getting PL only

And the later ones have those polish lines..

That coin looked 70 to me. I don't see how you can have a better looking coin than that one. I must be missing something in the picture.

Thanks for the comments. A few marks (minute scuffs) on the reverse rim above the word “STATES” is the only possible explanation that I can find for the lower grade. It is obvious with a loupe, but you can just discern the marks in the image below.

Unlike Morgan dollars, PCGS does not generally designate MS gold coins as prooflike with the exception of double eagles recovered from the S.S. Central America. No 2009 UHR have been given the PL designation.

I want to see a PCGS 69..

NGC is the service to use on this coin especially if it has those mirrors. Wow coin or what

See below - 2 UHR MS 70 PL coins currently for sale, same grade, have significantly different descriptions on the NGC slab.

Is there no standardization on the descriptions?

Maybe one of the graders was Ultra High :roflmao:

Bob-a-loo I think I have the answer. " Shorthand", They all need to grade the same.

I think there is a little too much credence given to the difference between 69 & a 70.

They both look nearly flawless, yet the 70 commands vastly higher premiums.

Is the point of collecting the coin in the holder or the holder the coin is in?
