I had forgotten that I had this one. I bought it twenty-something years ago, before I could recognize a cleaned coin when I saw it.

A little out of sequence - but here are my newest additions:

1909-P in VF - goes to the Whitman / sorry,

the images are too large to post.

the 1904-O - PCGS 45 [ coin looks AU 50-53]

is just a beautiful coin and a keeper - I won't

crack this one out - even for the Dansco...

This'll get cracked out as soon as it arrives - as its destined for

the old Whitman Bookself Album.

Its a very fine VF - IMHO:

Although this is not my coin - it was the last one needed

for my friend's set - in XF 45. I believe its a POP - 2 in XF 45.

Its so nice, I thought I'd share it.

Attached: 1905-S, Ex: Bowers and Merena auction.

One of the prettiest Barber Halves I have ever seen,

its in an NGC MS 67 Star Holder.

Although not mine, I saved the images as I doubt

I'll ever see the coin auctioned again. [ Let alone

be able to win it at auction, as these vividly toned

coins always go for Moon Money ].

A couple of things arrived from the Gals at JJ Teaparty...

both of which are destined to be cracked out for the Whitman...

The 1894-S is in a PCGS VF 30 Holder

and the 1901-S is in a PCGS VG 10 Holder:

What would you have done in this particular circumstance ?

I agreed to buy an 1897-P Quarter in PCGS MS 63 - based on the first

image. My first reaction that this is a higher graded coin than a MS 63.

The seller provided me with the ID # - so I could register the coin;

which I attempted to do. However, the coin wasn't released by

the original owner [ not the seller ] and NGC contacted the

"owner of record" - who released the coin for inclusion into my set.

NGC notified me that the coin was now available to be added into

my collection - and when I added it - a previous image of the coin

appeared attached to the PCGS serial number.

First Images: Seller's Images.

Second Images: Original Owners Images.

Needless to say, I returned the coin. I also sent

the coin back EXPRESS MAIL to the seller along

with a check to cover his exact postage

costs for sending me the coin.

I did, however, hold back from mailing the original check

once I saw the NGC pair of images - as this was not the

coin I had agreed to purchase [ based on the sellers images.]

The seller had already mailed out the coin shortly before I confronted

him about the dual images and my concerns.

What is the story on the 92-S, rarity-wise? I would have thought that, being the first year of issue, it would have been saved in high numbers, but according to the Red Book, it lists for much higher prices than years with lower mintage, leading me to believe that it must be scarce.

The branch mints coins were not saved to any extent; most collectors

were satisfied with a date set. The majority of 1892 branch mint coins

were well used and very few were saved in mint state and when available

in close to mint state they command a hefty price.

Here's a NEWP for my newest second set:

asked that I post this for

him - its his NEWP - and I

wish his larger images could

also be added here but they're

too large to post:

Fishfinder - Tell me about the 1899-O Quarter - raw or holdered ? Grade ?

I love that look. The Half and the Dime are nothing to sneeze at either but

that Quarter really jumped off the screen at me.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's an old friend which I repurchased from another Barber collector friend

who wasn't doing anything special with it - and since I'm working on another

set of Halves and locating a 1905-O in original condition is no easy feat, I bought

this back from him.

These are his images:
