  1. I have seen many coins from the older us mint cellophane wrappers that have a oily looking substance inside and on the coins. They have a yellow look also, many of the coins although uncirculated have a lot of bag marks, no FT and no FS coins in them.
  2. Yes the new generations will not know history if ( they ) can keep taking it away. There are not many that can read cursive anymore, what happens to that history like the stuff Roger picks up.
  3. It looks like a strong acid was dripped on to one side of the coin and then washed off after it bubbled up. it looks like Post Mint Damage to me. People do a lot of strange experiments on coins.
  4. I agree with the other members statements the coin has been altered to try to look like an error.
  5. There is so much PMD in that small area I would want to see what the rest of the coin looks like?
  6. It is always going to be a challenge for new collectors. Having a forum like this can be a tremendous help. Here are some Joe's garage slabs, The white one is a joke not even close but the green ones are from Peter Dunne a local dealer and very knowledgeable coin grader that passed away last year. I have looked at many of his coins and his grading was as good as anyone's.
  7. This 1994 P looks like it is from the garden set. See how there is stuff growing on it. Sorry coin collector humor
  8. As I mentioned before it looks like it was in a bezel? See the ring around the edge.
  9. This would be bit closer to the real deal
  10. Do you mean a 1943/2 Bill it does not look like one of those 43 over 2
  11. Thank you for the generous offer. I keep it a general practice to refrain from accepting coins from other members. But thanks Yes they are, and the FS coins are hard to find at a good price.
  12. I know they don't let you out to much HC. I have found if you comment from a cell phone or sometimes a hotel WI-FI it will automatically double the post at NGC forums. Not sure why?
  13. The area I live in is a high tourist attraction for many. I would say Canadians used to be the most predominant. That could be the reason.
  14. Well, it is not that good, but it is part silver so it will go with the rest of the war nickels.
  15. I got 1/2 done , two old ones I will keep.
  16. Ya never know what nickel may be lurking in these brown wrappers.
  17. The funny thing is many of the members here do exactly that. It is just some coins are almost imposable to grade from pictures.
  18. Well, the only question no one has asked is did you buy this face to face from a dealer in Japan or online sight unseen. And was it so cheap you could not say no. Those are important factors only you can answer.
  19. When you buy something over there can you just mail it to yourself instead of carrying it around.
  20. This would be the newest one for the set.
  21. A good book coin for sure. I would not think worth grading. Even at MS68 it would cost more that it's value.
  22. Jump into the red book and you will see things you never even thought of.
  23. There may be no one out there that you can depend on to tell you if it is real or not without holding it in hand. NGC will, so you can go through the rest of your days without wondering. Your choice ?
