  1. I picked up some sweet 60s coins for my set. These are the ones that are hard to find in full steps but I think MS 66 coins will be nice enough.
  2. Sure looks like a vice job to me also. Nice waffle look on the back . People do strange things to coins.
  3. I think you did a good job getting a picture. The first 3 head dress feathers on the bottom looks like some of the detail has flattened out a bit. There is no reverse close up to look at so I can not say much?
  4. I agree with Coinbuf, it has some worn feathers and a mark on the back side of the cheek
  5. A coin roller could even make marks like that I would think.
  6. I want to say that NGC has that coin valued at $375 and In my opinion that is a high price. The current owner wants even $50 more I would say no thanks. https://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/2733211-001/58/
  7. Gold is very difficult to give you a guess on the grade. We would really need very good close up pictures and even then it is still hard to see everything.
  8. These coins can be found as much better looking examples but it takes a bit of shopping.
  9. Where I live the average bad fixer upper in a old area on a 1/4 acre is $400,000 the houses near the water are always 2 mil or more. Most are only bought for the land. The house is torn down and a new 6 mil house is built. That is just the way it is around here.
  10. I agree with the others and want to say buying a raw coin on line is a very chancy way to go. There is no way to tell from internet photos what the real condition of the coin is. My rule is I only buy raw coins if they are in my hand. Anything other than that type of purchase has to be a graded coin and even those can make me scratch my head sometimes. If you can post a coin on a thread here before you order it you may get some good feedback. It is still a issue that photos do not tell all.
  11. I agree in the long run they will have to come down if silver stays low for to long. I think most will wait it out until there is no choice. It is sad the small shop is becoming a thing of the past. It is hard to compete with the internet stuff out there.
  12. Yes ASE is in reference to any American Silver Eagle in general . As for auction prices I have been finding people are just bidding like it does not matter. I think the bids are going to high on a lot of items in my opinion.
  13. Price values may drop but coin sale prices will likely stay the same just not go up again until the market gets better. In most cases a dealer is not going to sell that ASE for any less than what he has been asking for it just because the price of silver went down. There is no profit in that only loss. Now if you have a silver tongue that may be worth something in this market..
  14. I agree the + and - thing are a big money maker or looser it is already a hard pill to swallow when the price change between grades is over the top now we have Green and Gold +and - Forget raising the scale from 70 to 100 in reality the Sheldon Scale is now 3 X 70 =210 and add one more for a MS70+ gold bean..... That is a coin with no marks that is invisible inside a holder. It is worth a little bit more than a cricket
  15. I only buy one regular strike per year now. I also have a full set of raw ASE that I put together as a collection of the dates for birth years for grand kids and then decided to make it a full set after collecting 14. I have a couple graded MS70 and one proof that I picked up for cheap, the rest I hand picked . The raw coins are all very nice and they all look like MS coins but in the real world they are not worth anything but what someone or the market will give me. I see you are referencing the red book on a lot of your posts. I use it quite a bit also but that is not necessarily what a coin in hand is worth. It is a good guide but in the end there are many factors to consider. Coming to this forum is a great place to meet and talk with NGC staff, collectors, writers and dealers that have many years of experience. I for one am grateful for the friendship and knowledge that I have received here.
  16. If you are happy with raw coins you will save a lot of money. You do run a higher risk of picking up a counterfeit or a cleaned coin that has no value other than it's metal content. I buy graded coins so the values are easier to look up and keep track of for others. When I am gone the coins can be saved or sold easier by my wife or children. They also know that they won't likely get full price either. I look at it this way anything they sell is 100% profit because I paid for it not them.
  17. Ya me too............ I was kinda joking a bit we have been talking so much about coin investments' lately
  18. I have also used Northeast Numismatics when looking for a hard to find item https://www.northeastcoin.com/index.jsp
  19. Welcome. I use whatever dates and variety's the NGC Registry set asks for so you would be building a full set and having a nice place to keep track of your progress. Just a thought.
  20. I also got this today. A good looking MS63 in my opinion, not a high priced coin but still a nice hole filler ...
  21. I saw this special label and the SP 69 and just had to have it. It was not on my list but I got it for only 20% of NGC's estimated retail price. I know it is not being a smart collector to just buy something because you like it. LoL I like the finish on the coin not really like any other coin I have. It is not a Satin finish more like a ASE finish on it .
  22. You must be staying at a Holiday Inn Express again RWB
  23. A possible dryer coin. A coin that was stuck and worn down by moving parts. Not a mint error just a damaged coin. Sorry
  24. I love it when you guys talk dirty.... LoL I love the insight. I am driving a Vega and you are talking Corvettes. I collect Nickels and you guys have Double Eagles but in the end if you go by % and hole filling I have to say it is almost a necessity if you want a complete set .I am always on the hunt for that hard to find coin at the bottom price. I sometimes look at a coin I purchased and said what was I thinking it is only listed for $20 in a holder and then I look up what I paid for it and it was $3 in a holder. So I feel that if the percentage is acceptable the hole filling is a must for a collector weather it be Dimes or Dollars.
