  1. Hello all. I recently picked up this Lincoln cent and really bought it because of the odd spot on the rim on the reverse above “UNUM”. I don’t know if this is just PMD or something else like a type of lamination or what. If it is not PMD, I am not really sure what this would be classified as. I’m not looking to have it graded or anything like that. I am just curious as to what the other members have to say. I hope these pics are good enough. If not, let me know and I will try to post better ones. Thanks.7A8D3E87-3F03-4A67-ACEA-E281AAD3A033.thumb.jpeg.2f1a6be228fede024e8679538df301df.jpegF917FA75-961C-4F09-95E0-6DD3D98589C4.thumb.jpeg.7e779c4cc83c8f032a11751ff7ce33e7.jpeg77376C92-A742-4897-B217-104B5CCA3CE9.thumb.jpeg.350cd665a55ca1d839366a1916be924b.jpeg35387EE3-4194-47EF-B830-399403D1105A.thumb.jpeg.5dbabf55f28ebc1a66775bfcfe7f3227.jpeg5FF0B809-6981-4B9E-B52E-B80FB045439F.thumb.jpeg.d31f0666e34c9d43890b04235db3d6f4.jpeg1320D2B9-E02E-4CF1-88C0-80C2A15CC4AF.thumb.jpeg.75ac8d5afe33a6fe91ec0d10c7ad310c.jpeg

Josh there are also several dealers that are very good to work with and have websites to shop from. Just a few that come to mind that I’ve dealt with recently, but I’m sure many others have recommendations as well

    - Northeast Numismatics

    - Gerry Fortin Rare Coins

    -  Sarasota Rare Coin Gallery

I just bought my first coin from Northeast Numismatics. Its a good place to look.

Thanks man.  The name is Josh but I can see how you could assume Jim.  LOL Cheers and thanks for saying hello my friend.

Sorry about that. I just saw the JM and apparently added in my own I. Welcome Josh. Coin collecting is super addictive. I’m ate up with it pretty bad but I’m ok with that. What do you collect?

I really like your photo setup @Lem E.  Maybe one day I'll have a nice setup like this and not have to use my cruddy cell phone......

Actually these are done with my cell phone. My set up is nothing more than setting my phone on top of a coffee cup and the lighting is just a table lamp. Raw coins come out so much better than slabbed. You don’t have to fight the glare on the plastic. Then I just crop and combine the pics using photoscapeX. Nothing fancy at all.

@Woods020 so it the s mm noramal for the barber dime to be on obverse in middle of liberty neck?

This is not a mintmark. You are experiencing what is called “pareidolia” which means your brain is turning that cluster of darkened pits into an S. It’s just damage with coin crud in it. This happens a lot with coins. People think they see all kinds of things that are not there. Looks like this is a Philly coin.

  6. I would say it is a sample slab photo (stock photo) with the cert# removed. This is usually done if sellers have more than one of these for sale. This means that the coin in the listing photos is most likely not the exact coin you will receive. I like to see the actual coin I am buying and usually will not buy from a sample photo. I would read any descriptions the seller has on the listing to see if this is the “actual” coin or not. I doubt it is.
