  1. Looks like it may have been holed and plugged.
  2. I can understand and appreciate someone trying to do a matched set. I like consistency, but I think you could always run into trouble depending on what grade you were going after. If you start with easy dates in a certain grade and then hit the tough dates with a lower probability of finding the same grade, that would make it hard or even sometimes near impossible. I go for the best coin with the best grade I can acquire or afford. I think it would be nice to have a whole set with the same label, but that would be a lot of reholdering for me.
  3. Hello and welcome to the forum. You have a close AM (CAM) which is normal for a 1993 cent. “No mintmark” means it was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Here is a good resource about the wide and close AM coins. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjO5fz8_sj4AhXJOM0KHSOvBPAQFnoECAgQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lincolncentcollection.com%2Fcloseamwideam.php&usg=AOvVaw2-JRA4LAEgxwqvgh5PTmDG
  4. I think it would depend on how the heat was applied and any surface discoloration that may have happened could have been worn off if/when the coin was put back in circulation. There are so many variables that it would be nearly impossible to say exactly what happened to this coin. My first instinct is some type of heat damage. How it happened, I can’t say for sure.
  5. The bubbling and separation of the clad layers leads me to believe heat damage as well.
  6. My guess would be environmental or heated up post mint at some point.
  7. That is quite the blob you have there. I’ll say it used to be an S.
  8. Thank you everyone one. It means a lot to get this kind of support from my fellow collectors. I have a few recent additions that I need to get sent off to Joe for images and some things need work in the set. I’m very excited to finally get to this spot. Hopefully some day I will be able to finish the set. Thanks again. Lem
  9. Thanks my brother I appreciate it greatly. We will see how long I can stay there. I owe all the thanks to the top set selling off some of their coins. Thanks again Hog.
  10. Sorry to hear that. May he rest in peace.
  11. I would say just keep it out of damp or humid environments and it will be ok. Welcome to the forum.
  12. You’re a stand up guy and if you ever run for office, you have my vote.
  13. Are you serious? That is amazing that we saw each other’s coins. Your Lincoln was a nice piece as well. Nice deep bronzy red to it. Yea, it got hung up in the mail system for quite a while. I’m pretty happy it finally showed up. That’s crazy. True definition of “Small World”. I’m glad it went to someone honest. I thank you my friend and I’m glad you got your coin as well.
  14. **UPDATE** After purchasing this on 4/29 it finally showed up yesterday 6/10. No Pepsi on this one.
  15. I guess it depends on what you consider a “side set”. Like you, I have my nickel set and my type set as mains. Then is trails off into about 30 other very incomplete sets that will most likely never be completed. 2 coins here. Three coins there. Mercs, Walkers, Barber quarters, large cents. I have a little bit of a lot of stuff. Once I get away from the nickel collection, I mainly buy coins by eye appeal. Doesn't really matter what it is. Maybe one of these days I will try to concentrate my efforts to another series. Until then, I just collect coins.
  16. Welcome. It was either caught in a piece of machinery and ground down or it was done intentionally by someone. Either way it is just a damaged quarter.
