  1. I've noticed alot of the new dimes have chips on the oak branch also.
  2. Wish I'd checked all that out when I worked up there. Back in 2000 I worked up there. First time I ever got to see a big city. It was pretty cool. We was way out of place. The company I worked for paid our hotel rooms. They had a bunch of us hillbillies shacked up at the Courtyard Marriott in Time Square. That crew didn't know what to think about us. They never heard our Southern accents before. We were up there for a few weeks. We made good friends with all the workers there though. I loved to see all the sights. Only got to see that stuff on TV before. I wish we would have checked out those big coin shops and things.
  3. I think I figured it out. Old Martha took an iron skillet to the top of George's head.
  4. George had all he could take. Thank you for the info. I was noticing that as I was looking thru them and it caught my attention. There is a really nice one that I would really love to get if they still have it by time I scratch the money up. NGC recognized it on the label and it looks like it could possibly be a later stage of one of them I already have. It's in the same spot and got the same shape. May be a different one but it sure fooled me. Would be neat to own 2 coins with the same crack.
  5. I was wondering why the dies cracked so bad on the early Washington quarters? I had been looking at several of them and noticed a few. Most are cracked right close to the top of Washington's head. Is it the design that makes it weaker near that area for some reason? I noticed most of the ones I saw were 1955s also, for some odd reason. I own two of them with small cracks. I seen a 1955 for sell that NGC recognized the crack on the label. And it's right in the same area. Here's pictures of my two. The first coin also has a crack at the bottom right. The second coin is just a small one but it is definitely a small crack. Thought it may have been a scratch at first and I examined it under a microscope.
  6. I agree 100% on the Effigy Mound quarters. It looks like 3 big blobs on the back of it. Don't look like they even tried on that one.
  7. My youngest son is finally starting to get inspired. USMC Ray had a whole lot to do with that. That was very great and I can't thank you enough. He's got himself a handful now he keeps locked in his safe. He's been beating me to the change to look through it now. It makes me so happy now He's getting into the hobby. I want to thank you very much for that Ray. I truly mean that very much. It truly works if they get some coins gifted from a stranger more than from a parent. I don't know why but it was the case for my youngest son. My oldest was already getting into the hobby. I had been trying to inspire my youngest. He loves his hoard he calls it. He's also got some gemstones he keeps locked in it to. He finally got his first wheat penny back in change from a store the other day with some of his own money spent.
  8. I thought cameo was the frostiness on the device. From the Lazer etching ,etc. Makes the eagle, person, etc. on the coin white and frosty looking. I've seen uncirculated coins have cameo on them.
  9. Looks like a 1912 or 1917. Definitely in the teens.
  10. Congratulations my friend. That's a dandy. Beautiful quarter.
  11. Wonder how many employees died of lung cancer and other such illnesses in those days due to exposure of harsh chemicals used? That was something I was thinking about as I read FMTM.
  12. That was my first thoughts. SMS satin matte lincoln wheat back cent.
  13. They would last many years in the right environment.
  14. Old boy was right. Condor confirmed it.
  15. Thank you very much Condor. I'll label it on the coin flip. I really appreciate it
  16. That is a sad sight to see. Almost heartbreaking.
  17. As far as the slabs go they should invent a slab with a gasket around the edges. Like a thin o ring or something to help seal the moisture and air out of it. It would better protect the higher end coins.
  18. Yes sir. I agree with ya. Them little ones is what life's all about. Love to see them all get into a hobby like this. They can learn some valuable life lessons. And also maybe keep them off drugs if they got a hobby they are into.
  19. It is an awsome book. I got done reading it while back and I'm getting ready to read it again. I already read most of it twice. Goes into so much fine detail. You can bout put yourself there working at the mint.
  20. I was thinking if that coin is genuine. Could some kind of strong acid cause that pitted appearance? If it were exposed to some at one time or another. Or if it since it was found in a field could years of scattering strong fertilizer, such as triple 19, cause that? I've seen it eat up certain things really bad over the years of being a farmer. But don't know if it has an affect on gold or not. But it's definitely hard on tin and things like that.
  21. That is very generous of you. A very special person on this forum gave my kids some coins and they really enjoyed them a whole lot. They have been looking at them almost everyday and been looking up coins like them on their phones. And have been researching them. That really helps children. I've witnessed it with my own eyes. It's good to get them into hobbies such as collecting. It helps keep them off the games and things such as that. That's so great my friend. You are a good person.
