  1. I never thought about that. I may give it a try since I decided to hold off sending it in. It may tone in a few years maybe. I noticed the reverse on the dollar is toning also and not the obverse. It wouldn't hurt nothing to try it.
  2. I figured you'd like that LemE. I know your into those nickles. I like them a whole lot also. I was very happy to have got this set. The nickle was the main reason I bought it. It is very nice looking at it in person. I like the dollar coin in the set also but not as much. My opinion I don't think the portrait of Jefferson is as attractive as portraits of him on other coins and notes. Definitely not one of my favorites. But I'm still happy to have it. Thank you to everyone for your feedback. I think I will just keep it in the original packaging and if the price ever goes up on them I may send it in. Thanks for helping talk me out of it. I been trying to talk myself down but sometimes I can't get myself to listen to me and need a little help.
  3. That's exactly what I was afraid of. I'd probably be better off to keep it in the original packaging then. If the value ever goes up on those sometime in the future I will break it out and send it in. I would definitely send it in if the obverse had the same toning as the reverse. I never was real big on alot of types of toning but I like the type on this particular coin. Thank you for the feedback my friend. I really appreciate it.
  4. I do the same thing. I sir and ma'am everyone. That's how I was raised.
  5. Love those coins. The engravers of both of them done a wonderful job on the details of them. I can only imagine how long it took them to carve those amazing works of art into the dies. Congratulations. Those are awsome finds.
  6. I been thinking really hard on getting this graded. It is a very sharp nickle. It is got beautiful toning on the reverse. The picture doesn't do it justice. It was hard to keep the glare off it from the plastic when I snapped it. The obverse has no toning at all on it. I would most definitely have it graded if the obverse were like the reverse. But I would love to hear some opinions of what you all would do if you were me. Im really trying to get you all to help talk me out of it. Lol. Its the nickle that comes in the Thomas Jefferson coin and currency set. Grade it? Or keep it in the set ? Also all the scratches are on the plastic. The coin is spotless. Thank you for any facts or opinions. I enjoy hearing from you all.
  7. I never knew that either. That's great to know
  8. I have to agree with you all 100 percent on that. That makes a whole lot of sense.
  9. He's been all over the US and Canada and that's one of the only places I've seen him get out of line like that. Lol
  10. Yep. None of my 79s are the wide rim. They all are normal. Nothing special.
  11. I only ended up with 10 of those. My sister got the rest I think. Or most of them. The only wide rim is a 1980 D. I only got one S also. Don't know what the rest were. Back before I started collecting. None of mine are special. Don't know bout my sis
  12. Not really sure. They worked in a few different places. I know for sure they were in Portland once. They done a route in several different places in Oregon, Washington, and North California. I remember dad came back from Portland with green hair and an ear ring and a few new tattoos tho. Lol. They were out there for 2 months.
  13. I got a cool story about those. My mom and dad were working in Oregon several years ago and made a purchase at Pep Boys or something like that. They bought an alternator for a Chevy Blazer. The store didn't have no paper change to give them and asked if they cared to take quarter rolls. They didn't realize it till they got back to Kentucky when they broke the rolls open they were 2 rolls of nothing but SBA dollars. There was no way to get hold of them to make it right.
  14. If I was gonna sell something I would want people to see the flaws if they are there. Don't want to trick someone into buying something. Then again I never was a business man. I aways go in the hole. I hate to charge people for stuff. I was going to start selling firewood several times over the years and ended up giving it away every time. That's probably why I'm so poor now to though. Lol.
  15. I agree. That just makes stay away from them. Like they are trying to hide something about the coin.
  16. Very sorry to hear about your husband. Tore my heart out reading that. Hard to lose someone dear to you. But I'm the same way on the coin collecting. I love learning about it. I been doing a whole lot of reading and studying on them. Some of these guys have wrote some amazing books. I'm the same way about finding the treasure also. Be nice but I've learned to accept reality. This is a very fun hobby and I've learned so much about history of our country and others studying up on the coins. It was great to see you post on here. You remind me a whole lot of myself. Have a wonderful blessed day and happy collecting. Hope you do find that treasure.
  17. I've never met such a great bunch of people in my life that I've met on here. Wonderful people. I'm truly grateful to call them my friends.
  18. Am I just going blind or do alot Ebay sellers take bad pictures of their coins? Don't get me wrong. Alot of them take great pictures and are excellent sellers. But I was just on there browsing around and some of the pictures look like they were took from the other side of the room and out of focus. Also alot of them are shot at angles of the coin laying down and out of focus. Or just show a picture of half the coin and say in the description, "She's a real BEAUTY." Be nice to see it and make that judgment on my own. I figured most of the bad pictures was to hide all the flaws. When I do buy I try to stay away from one's like that. I ended up getting a cleaned Morgan dollar like that when I first started collecting. Looking thru the 3 cent silvers is probably one of the worst categories for bad pictures on Ebay. I figured I'd get on here and make conversation with you all. If anyone wants to add anything it is very much welcomed. Love hearing from you all.
  19. They all look like small dates to me. Pretty sure your right. Some more experienced will be on here before long to confirm.
  20. That's a cool story. I'll have to try and read more upon the history of it thanks for sharing. I'll keep my eyes open for those tokens also. Would love to own a piece of that history. Traveled thru there many times. Got family and friends up in that country.
  21. I just got done reading it and it is a wonderful issue. It is absolutely packed with information. I highly recommend it. It would probably be great for your project.
  22. I was looking and almost all of my NGC slabbed coins have those also. I got one of the old fat holders I am looking at now. How does those labels work? Are they some kind of a sticker or does the plastic case hold them in place?
  23. Big ice storm hit and knocked all our internet and electric out. I finally made it into town to try and order one but didn't look good. Man that tears me up. Our tower went down 20 minutes before they went on sale.
  24. He invented a better toggle press in the 1800s. He improved every single procedure of the US Mint. If you want to read more about all his improvements to the mint I recommend getting the spring 2013 issue 2 of JNR. It is very interesting. He was a genius.
