  1. If they know who it was they likely fired him. I doubt they could do much else unless they caught him stealing. Then, has there ever been a criminal case against a mint employee over such things?
  2. I think if you brought your original argument to a court you would get beat by a first year law student. I do not think a coin struck by a mint employee at the mint while using official dies, planchets, equipment, and paid employees can fall under the definition of counterfeit. If the employee struck the coin and let it go into the struck coin hopper and it went through all the steps and was released into general population then you would likely lose the argument of using government property for personal gain. I expect your conversation will not accomplish much beyond making you feel proud of yourself. In a court of law it is not what is true, nor what is right, but what can be proven.
  3. You haven't heard? Old Ratzie is working on a book and the working title "The Complete Guide to Unknown and Non-existent Varieties and Errors. or Why Am I the Only One to see This $^eeT?" Every day or so he has a new one that is just a common coin. It is getting boring.
  4. Is there a known variety for this? Or is this a new discovery?
  5. 1. Is collecting coins the same as hoarding money? 2. Is numismatics an excuse to stay away from people? 3. Is collecting errors a way to highlight other people's and/or the government's inadequacies?
  6. ...and you think that makes it worth more??
  7. it is some type of strike doubling, not sure exactly what it would be called but it is not a double die to my eye
  8. nice die crack on that one. I doubt that it is a so called special mint set. It looks a bit like a proof to my eye. That is a proof and you know very well that it is
  9. I think That is either a token or a modern replica. It is not a cash coin
  10. As with any business Collectors Universe 's first mission is to make money. The board decided it is more profitable to sell now then to continue conducting business as normal. DI Capital Partners thinks that it is more profitable to purchase CU now. I have no knowledge of DI so I wonder what their thinking is . I expect their vision is different and there will be major changes. If they do not break it up to sell the pieces at a profit there will be considerable changes in management and procedure. This is something I have been expecting for a while now. We will see what this does to their reputation. Personally I expect some major changes in their market acceptance. We shall see.
  11. The technical term for that one is 'beat to hell' That one is definitely a spender.
  12. it is strike doubling there are several forms of strike doubling that are very common and have no extra value They are interesting and sometimes far more striking visually than double dies
  13. This is pretty easy, even I know it! in the upper right click on you name and it gives you choices look for profile
  14. I do not understand why you are confused. In God We Trust is written on the edge of the presidential dollars. Have you looked there?
  15. both are uncirculated coins with a lot of bag marks. The first coin has better 'eye appeal' but that does not always translate into a higher grade
  16. I have several things I want to say but I think one or more of them would be considered inappropriate or otherwise unacceptable by some viewers
  17. happy stuff yourself day! oohhh I ate too much, by the way asparagus in brie sauce is the food of the gods, without a doubt
  18. it looks like strike doubling to me. go to variety vista and compare it. if it does not match it is not DDO
  19. I respectfully disagree... Too many marks and tics and that reed hit near the ear is not very nice at all. Just a common coin in a common grade to my eye
  20. well, not sure I can line up behind that statement. I collect for pleasure not profit and a sticker does not bring me pleasure at all. If stickers and holders give you pleasure than I hope you enjoy, personally I do not care if some guy I do not know likes a certain coin or not, If I like it or not is my concern.
  21. just what I think The numismatic community is fairly small so the traffic would not be great I am not sure how many numismatic researchers or students would be comfortable with using a website instead of books, tombs, or codex or id it codices? I think that most internet users would not want to pay for the use as there seems to be a culture and expectation of free information
