Greenstang got a reaction from Alex in PA. in Should I send in to be authenticated
All you had to do is check your picture against an authentic coin and you would see that it is not close to being genuine.

Greenstang got a reaction from Oldhoopster in 1983 d copper penny
Welcome to the Forum
A picture of both sides will be needed. There are counterfeits of these cents and would like to eliminate that possibility.
A side fact: There are more 1943 copper cents known than 1983, so the odds of even having one let alone two are astronomical.

Really need a close-up of that area but from what I can see, it looks like it was struck through grease or oil.

Greenstang got a reaction from Woods020 in I have this dime. Which I can't figure out.
Welcome to the Forum
Sorry but that is not an error, it has been damaged after it left the mint. Known as PMD ( Post Minting Damage)
Also please do not handle coins in your hand, hold them by the edges.

Greenstang got a reaction from Mr.Bill347 in Found a crummy old Bicentennial Quarter but seems to have a broken post completely filled D
Broken posts are a common problem for any D or P mint mark. They don’t really add any value.

Greenstang got a reaction from RonnieR131 in Just wondering if this a double strike
Not sure where you see a Double Strike. If it was Double Struck, the whole coin would be affected, not just one area.

I'm gettin better! 😊
Glad to see that you are willing to learn and not just rely on everyone else to do the work for you. This hobby is a lot more fun when you can identify some of the many forms of damage and errors for yourself. Keep on replying to the different questions, it is a good way to teach yourself. State what you thing the right answer is, if your right, great, if your wrong, (and don't worry about being wrong, everyone is once in a while) you will learn the correct answer for the next time.

There are several visual markers that lead to the conclusion that it is counterfeit. We do not normally disclose them on the Forum as counterfeiters also read these posts but I will tell you one easy one to look for. Check the location of the 3 in the date to a genuine one. You will find that yours is further away from the 4. As I said, there are several markers but it only takes one to make it a counterfeit.

I'm with Oldhoopster, I believe it is counterfeit also.
This is one of the more counterfeited coins and there are several Chinese websites that have them for sale now.
Edit;
After researching my files, I'm now sure that it is counterfeit.

Not an error, PMD. The lack of rims and flatness of Washington’s head indicates that it was ground or buffed down.
Still worth 25 cents though.

In other words know what you are doing before jumping into this hobby. It can be costly if you don’t.

Greenstang got a reaction from Modwriter in 1948-D Wheat Penny Die Error
Neither is an error. Just common circulation wear and taken a few hits over the last 63 years.
Possibly a small die chip on the 4

Grease filled die. Not really filled enough to add any great value.
