  1. [He was quoted as saying he was "subversive as hell" and Wikipedia allows that he was, in part, a "political cartoonist" (and not born in Russia as my mother had led me to believe). Also, unbeknownst to me, his last name, the moniker Seuss, was pronounced like "voice." I clearly stand corrected.]
  2. I never knew numismatists were allowed to look at women like that! And that's a Boulder she was sitting on! If anything, I can definitely see where citing these areas would militate in a buyer's favor in determining a proper grade and negotiating a fair [market value] price. You've done very well, Mr. Spud!
  3. @RWB I do know Charles Augustus Lindbergh expressed pro-Nazi proclivities, for which he was formally censured/reprimanded, but I refuse to believe Dr. Seuss would "comment" politically via cartoon. 😉
  4. AU-58? I defy anyone to show me exactly where the touch of wear is on this incredibly beautiful old gem -- with no discernible signs of mischief on its pristine surfaces! 🤔

  6. As our fellow member, the irrepressible Great Zadok, once observed (on an unrelated matter)... "This is a moot point." The Decision previously rendered, stands.
  7. Somebody alluding to the plight of the roostermeister? I have long ago reconciled (resigned) myself to the fact that my West Coast roosters will remain right where they -- and that my East Coast roosters will continue to, er, uh, roost right here. If My Cousin Vinny can retire from show business, so can I. When I hit the Big Seven-O next month, I will throw in the towel (unofficially relinquish my stranglehold on 🐓 across the street) and allow the young whippersnappers to experience a rare luxury: Hope that they, too, can become viable contenders. Quoting Tony Montana in the 1983 movie, "Scarface,"... "My gift to you."
  8. (The surest signs of a healthy and robust revival of interest in this hobby are the continual queries received at this post requesting the creation of whole and sub-categories of specific coin issues. It is a marvel how NGC can accommodate all the existing registrants in its humongous Set Registry. JOB VERY WELL DONE!) 🐓
  9. With @RWB's indulgence, as this is off-topic, buying foreign coins directly, at higher prices, with no iron-clad guarantee the item will arrive without incident or complication, is not a risk your average collector is willing to assume.
  10. I believe so and I also think he threw a below-par grade out there to help head off any anticipatory retaliation. AU? SEZ WHO? That's one heckuva beautiful gem! 😍
  11. I am going to refer to this, henceforth, as "W.C.'s Universal Lamentation." I myself was afflicted with "Roostermania" and others continue to endure a course of collection that mimics the "Partrick Syndrome," which typically starts out innocently enough as collection before manifesting itself as compulsive obsession over which the former collector is unable to exercise any control. The only known cure for this aberration is filling every known space with high-quality merchandise until complete... Great 👍 stuff!
  12. Actually, no, you couldn't. This loose thread is titled: "A biased look at what is taking the pleasure out of coin collecting." (Emphasis mine) Any such comments you compile would be . Capeche?
  13. Minus the mishap -- you don't give old coins to your kid in the stroller to play with no matter how smart you think he may be -- you've got Good, by a nose. (My condolences to the buyer who just found out his coin's value does not exceed the cost of formal certification.)
  14. I can attest to the fact that the stuff works and if it doesn't, I am authorized to issue a refund.
  15. @Mohawk I guess something is lost in the pixelated soup. If you were to present the image to people at random, "golden-colored brass alloy," as used by the Roman Empire, is not likely to be the initial first impression you would get. (On the other hand, I would be too embarrassed to admit I was totally unfamiliar with the term and had to look it up.) Very informative post! 😅
  16. Same thought I had. They won't let it go to waste. I believe they still have stuff left behind by the Russians.
  17. "....dies do not suck"? Sorry, I'm not buying that. No way in [----] was such language used, and certainly not in formal correspondence. (Somebody get me Re-write!)
  18. C'mon Mo', no way I'm gonna let you slide on this one. "Great" Orichalcum? How does this differ from those Cu-Ni Indian Head cents from the 1860's or 1944 Lincoln Heads? If this is the best you can do, I want my money back. 💰 🤔
  19. (Good thing my Time Capsule was in tickety-boo working order. I missed this post on the first go-round... Some off-the-cuff observations..The date is 1287. (The crop circle, a mere ghostly shadow, don't count.) Pedigree vs. Progeny. Trees with bountiful harvests. Not a single mention of the "coin's" most striking aspect: that giant, white elephant 🐘 Star of David occupying the entire reverse. How come? Morocco 🇲🇦 Casablanca... What's the sto-ry, Jer-ry? Enquiring minds, including a roostermeister, want to know.)
  20. Eighteen seventy-two? This is hearsay at best, but I am inclined to accept it. It's difficult enough establishing pedi-- oops!, provenance, as it is. 🐓
  21. @RWB One of the more potent coin-dictments to emerge from deep in the heart of Texas in recent years, some 22 counts, with ready applicability to a number of federal jurisdictions throughout the land.
