  1. Well, I've read it and glad you like tokens from Old Pennsylvania. I collect the Patriotic kind. Usually NGC is good at answering but this Covid thing has made everything messed up. PM me if you need anything. Nice to meet ya.
  2. During those times people, and courts, took stealing, or theft, very seriously. For example, stealing a horse and getting caught resulted in hanging. Rarely, if ever, did a person escape the noose for crimes that impacted on the health and welfare of fellow citizens.
  3. As the world population increases it only stands to reason that collectors, of all sorts and forms, will increase. This is referred to as 'Population Growth vs Decline" by the US Gov. My town never changes population Every time a girl gets pregnant, a guy leaves town.
  4. If they aren't careful they will price themselves out of business for a while until it gets back to affordable.
  5. You got that right. The fellow in question got OFF rather than the NOOSE.
  6. I really like, and agree with, most of what you say. I am on here, CT, and CU and I don't see a multitude of "stolen' coins" comments that are ever followed up. I've been a victim of FedEx stupidity. I was to receive a valuable ($1,000.00+) item. It showed as 'Received'. but wasn't. FedEx was no help and couldn't care less. I got a refund from the Shipper who labeled it 'Stolen in Transit'. One month later a Property Owner of a vacant building quit away from me showed up with this large box addressed to me. FedEx left it at the door of a vacant apartment. Also, I think people who ship collectible coins in a 'Bubble Wrap' envelop[e are just plain asking for it. But, never the less, I have shipped coins via the USPS for near 50 years now and never had one lost, stolen or missing. If you would have seen what I shipped to Maine last year you would have fainted.
  7. Try ATS; saw some complaints the other day. Most of us are sensible to understand that when there is a Pandemic raging things don't always work out OUR way. I have read a great amount of these "Stolen Coins" comments and the majority of them always are followed by a sub title 'Lost/Stolen Coins" or "Missing or Stolen Coins". A great majority of the time we never read a 'Final Conclusion' of these claims. It is MY OPINION, and only my opinion, that a good portion of these so called thefts were nothing more than delayed in transit and the suffering complainer is blowing off steam. The damage false claims does to the USPS, UPS or FedEx is unwarranted and serves no purpose. Those agencies were staffed by humans some of who came down with the virus which caused delays in the processing of our mail.
  8. I've used NCS four times now and every time it took a while for the new number to appear. patience is a virtue; it will eventually show up.
  9. On this I must side with Q.A. A Proof coin is minted for Collecting, and in limited quantities, and not for circulation. Therefore, it must stand to reason a Proof coin should be made of 'precious' metal and not as a F.W. Woolworth knock off.
  10. Is there a book or website providing examples on 'most' counterfeit coins that you would recommend? Thanks.
  11. Close and you win a ceegar. Here in the back woods of Pennsylvania we call it 'Hatchet Humor'.
  12. My apologies but after seeing the Reverse I just could not help myself. And if I, yes l'il ol' me, can tell it's a fake it has to be a very bad fake. Cheers.
  13. Like Coinbuf I also collect for their historical value. I like to think of myself as a 'Purist'. I do not buy coins to 'flip' them and I am not in the business of Dealing in coins. Rarely do I sell a coin unless it's a MS 63 that I have a chance to upgrade to MS 65. I often wish the USA would return to minting beautiful coins and printing beautiful money as it did in the 1800s. If I had my way we would be using the Educational Notes of 1896 but with a complete spread $1 thru $100.
  14. My suspicions also. Perhaps it is also the picture that causes the coin to look 'smooth'. Thanks very much for your input.
  15. By all means; send it in to be graded and encapsulated. A coin of that date should get class A treatment.
  16. I just purchased an 1861 Seated Liberty 1/2 Dollar, NGC AU 58, that looks very 'bright' to me. Cleaned? Dipped? Your thoughts on this Thanks very much.
  17. Here's another lesson. Buy from reputable, well known and recommended dealers. Avoid EBay as that has become the national dumping ground for problem conis. I spent yesterday looking through 80 plus pages of Morgan Dollars with the majority of them 'Details' grade. I buy from Northeast Numismatics at www.northeastcoin.com which has excellent coins priced to fit any budget. 1913 Buffalo Nickel NGC MS 64 sells for $65.00 and they give you the option if 'Making an Offer'. Give them a look.
  18. Use to buy it annually but I quit when I bought the Mega Book 5th Edition.
  19. 15 April and 14 posts and all of a sudden you just came to that conclusion?
  20. Keep your eyes on the sky and your head down. Was only in one tornado in Colorado; had this active duty combat soldier hiding under the bed. Roll Tide!
