...no it was basically that way for all of the bullion related issues, swiss francs, sovereigns etc etc...even if in mint state, the only time any significant premium over bullion melt was if very high grades or top pops, as u mention with the bp n taxes the end price would be at or slightly over bullion, but not all buyers pay the taxes so one can actually buy at or slightly below bullion...as i have often stated this series n many others that served as bullion place holders dont have a big collector base, there r a few registry set collectors n in the roosters some interest in the pre restike issues but its very minimal, thats one reason u see so many unslabbed mint state coins, if it doesnt slab top pop u dont recover ur certification costs otherwise ud see dealers slabbing a hundred at a time as bulk submissions but there r not that many collectors to buy the mid range uncs....

I can see where this might apply. If the so called SMS were simply the first 5 or so coins struck from a brand new set of dies, but not a specially made set of dies, then wouldn't it stand there would be 5 or so coins from every series and date ever struck now called the so called SMS and what about the in the same year of striking once the dies have worn out and get changed to a fresh set? Then there would be an additional 5 or so called the so called SMS? I think by the standards we grade, those would simply be just exceptionally high graded but not have a special designation attached to them.
To me, the SMS designation should be applied when the coins are struck from a specially crafted set of dies not made for regular issued strikes or business strikes as some refer to.

Inauthentic comprises a larger number of faults than does counterfeit, DESPITE the likelihood that Roger uses them interchangeably. Roger misuses many words.

THAT'S  A DAMNABLE  LIE. Besides, as I have pointed out out recently, gold spot is risng suddenly in fits and starts.  If dealers monitored them they'd have time for nothing else. You're in scrap and consequently on the prowl. While you are not required to keep close track of irregularities, you would do unto others what others do, or should do, unto others.  I have NEVER compromised my principles for.money, least of all filthy lucre.  One more reason why I turned out as well as I have.

A dork nozzle, where, up my schnozzola?  I regard everyone who carries a nozzle or muzzle as an abject loser.  The brains - - - has give me has held me in good stead.  Through thick and thin, I have always prevailed.  And if something happened, and I were dispatched suddenly, what would I have left to fear about? Nothing.  Death tends to reduce things to their losest common denominator.  Most people worry about living, not dying. Besides, I have a  🐓 collection to complete.  There's always a time to die.  Capiche?

When I went I usually found something as well for my German collection or a medal …. I used to go to PAN show in the fall time , I’ve been to the one in spring time only two times over all years … I might pop in for the spring show it depends
I'm glad PAN show will continue at monroeville convention center , I’d rather go there than to go all way downtown to Pittsburgh convention center , fighting traffic bumper to bumper just to get back home with all detours and in Pittsburgh lately … some kind of roadwork going on just about every road I go down

    No. Stop it!
We lost our way when silver was taken out of coinage and Big Pharma decided to flex its muscle. (My wife's psychiatrist told me if you feel she no longer requires psychotropic drugs -- she no longer needs me presumably because her primary job is to prescribe medicines. Education relies wholly on what you read regularly, what channel you listen to, from whom or what (school, college or university) you get your education, and ultimately what you choose to do with it when you get it.  Nothing more complicated than that.

My reply to your other thread, which I have Copy/pasted here:
Clarence Hossley operated a billiard parlor inside the Carroll Hotel in Vicksburg, MS in the early 1900s. Two types of tokens were issued in 5 cent denominations. Both were round brass, 21 mm in diameter. One had a 2mm center hole, the other type did not. Both are listed in Chatham's Mississippi token book as R9 (2 -3 known to exist). Those numbers should be taken with a grain of salt, since the book was written in 1990. It is possible that more examples have been found since the book was written. Still, I have been collecting and following Mississippi tokens for over 40 years, and I can recall seeing only one other example of this piece in all those years. As far as value, that depends entirely on who wants it and how bad. It could sell for $25 or it could sell for several hundred. That may sound odd, but that is the token market. The venue, current market conditions, seller, demand, and condition of the piece all can play a part in the final price. I can tell you this: I bought my example off eBay in September of 2008, during a lull in the market, and I paid $45.44 plus shipping.
As zadok said, the value of this particular token, which appears to have been dug from the ground, is much less than it would be for a token in pristine condition. Unless you could find a collector who really needed an example and was willing to pay more, I would put the maximum value at around $20.

BY FAR, the best stuff I EVER learned, including the importance of getting to major shows, in numismatics, was what I learned at live coin club meetings. But then again, it was populated by some of the absolute giants in the field, including two Ferran Zerbe Award winners and a Hall of Fame inductee. Red Rose Coin Club of Lancaster, PA. The Chicago Coin Club is the SECOND most august club to which I belong.

I don't consider myself a pessimist because the price level doesn't have anything to do with actual coin collecting.  This was the context of my post.
My posts are long sometimes, but that's not what I said.  I'm not questioning the future of coin collecting or even collecting of US coinage.
I'm writing about the price level.  I could be wrong but the reasoning I use isn't unrealistic.  That's about the only reason anyone actually cares how many collectors are in the US.
For purposes of this thread, it's sufficient to state that it's any movement toward rejection of "traditional" culture however demonstrated.   In the context of coin collecting, it would be where it becomes "politically incorrect" to prefer the culture represented by the coin and therefore own it.
