everyone has their own priorities, standards, biases n boundaries as it should be....ours r just different.....i personally dont patronize nor buy from dealers that r repetitive early departers regardless of their inventories....

ur disagreement is expected...after all just below ur name on this forum is ur chosen identifier...."dealer"...n to each is his/her own...as for the over head at the shows thats part of the cost of doing business as in any business n is know well in advance...many dealers choose to call themselves "professional numismatists" even though the hobby has no official certification or accreditation authority, my premise would be if they want the respect associated with that designation then it must be earned n departing shows early for self interests doesnt demonstrate a professional attitude...just my opinion...

Rather, it's unlikely that JA invented abrasion on the "MS-64" coin, and the owner is decidedly stuck if he bought the coin at MS-64 pricing. If it were sent to the TPG by the owner, then he is still out the possible expense of having it re-evaluated, and clearly out the emotional stress of having a "nice coin" shot down by an impartial expert -- one who very likely took far more time to make an examination than the TPGs indentured staff.

PS: Please....stop looking at the stupid label. Only the coins count. Look at them - very carefully and be critical. There's a post elsewhere where a coin labeled "MS-64" was rejected by CAC and the owner told by JA it was AU -- a "BU rub" or "cabinet friction" nonsense label. Fact was, the TPG likely screwed up and the owner is stuck.
There is no such thing as an Uncirculated coin "with rub" or "with lite cabinet friction." It's horse hocky; donkey dust; fresh dino poo!

It always gets me when someone posts a coin and asks for thoughts/opinions of the coin and then they don't like the feedback. As already mentioned,  coins are hard to grade by pictures and basically opinions are only what a person can give by the pictures provided. A coin can only be accurately graded in-hand. You have the coin and you say you have the experience,  so get it graded. No need to get upset by what others think, they are only providing what you asked for.

I gotta agree with Mark on this one. What you are saying is completely contradictory to the often discussed gradeflatation that has occurred. I can’t say I’ve been in it nearly as long as either of you, but everyone talks about grades loosening. People pay more for coins in old holders thinking they will upgrade simply because they were graded before the loosening. Not to say that is a smart move but one done every day.

I'm pretty much done here guys but I do have a few things to say. To those that say that the 67 1886 is superior to mine I guess my question to you is while the pictures I presented to you of my coins are so close they sit on your eyelids you choose to defend pictures of a coin that is so far away it's hard to make out much of anything. Let me ask you this. If those two microscopic brown dots that you say destroy my coin were on that coin in the 67 holder would you be able to tell from the distance that holder was away that you choose to defend. That was the exact picture used by Heritage Auctions. I did blow up the 67 and there are light and dark patches all over it. If you were to break it out I would bet it wouldn't get a 65. If the pictures you show of a coin are only taken from a distance there is good reason for it. They are trying to hide something. I guess I came on here for opinions which I was given. Now I will give mine. Coins in old holders on almost every occasion I have bought them and I have been dealing in Indians almost exclusively for over 30 years  have been over graded. Long before grade manipulation was ever thought of back in the mid 80's when this craziness started loose grading was no big deal. Once the number of highly graded coins from each year were established grading became much more strict in order to keep the prices high for those in shall we say the elite class. Obviously if you flood the market with a bunch of 66 or 67 graded coins it drops the price and the bigshots that spend all of the money with the supposedly  top notch coin grading companies get pissed off watching the value of their precious investments tumble. What better way to stop that then tighten the grading. Go on Heritage Auctions and look for yourself. A high majority of the top graded coins are in old holders. Are they better than the coins graded today. Nope. Not even close. Most likely worse. Its all about the money.

Or put them all near one another which is usually not the optimal traffic-wise location.  You want a premium location with the attendees ?  Then you stay to the end or near the end.
We're not giving prime locations, premium tables, to folks packing up late-morning on Sunday.

Table holders leave early for various reasons. In many cases, it’s a business/financial decision, as they believe they can get more done back at the office, so time is better spent there. In other instances, it’s a quality of life decision - perhaps they prefer to spend more time with family and/or friends and/or doing something else, rather than stay at the show.
I can understand why attendees don’t like it when dealers leave early. But as long as the contract with the show organizer/promoter doesn’t require staying until a particular time, I feel that the table holder should be free to leave when he wants to. He’s the one who pays the fee for the table and is there to do business. If he thinks it’s worthwhile to stay, he will and if not, he won’t.

For the history of the US mints, I recommend "History of the United States Mint and its Coinage" by David W. Lange.

Get it from Wizard Coin Supply here

As for the history of our early monetary policies, well, you could read a whole bookcase of books on the subject. However, Dave Lange's book will give you an overview and help you identify any areas about which you want to learn more.

i can identify with all of that...i have one album of circulated barber coins started by my grandfather from his pocket change that i inherited, i attempted to complete in in as much as possible coins that matched his in grade n toning, my son finally finished it this past year...emotionally n sentimentally much more meaningful than our other slab orientated high grade series of coins....

different strokes for different folks, sometimes its more of a matter how big of a pond ur swimming in....in some cases its the journey rather than the conclusion that's the driving motivation...for example, in some of my collections i strive for every coin to be top pop if its at all obtainable n in others the goal is to acquire the highest graded coin i can find and/or afford....in some instances this has taken 40 plus years....
