Don't we all do this though? Isn't it in the nature of collecting?

I've been on a real streak the last 3 months on my first dollars - varieties I need and want just keep coming up with a couple of sellers.

Those look great, but since they're already graded I guess we won't be treated to another submission post involving them. :)

Since we are all collectors here I would assume we all go though this stage of collecting...It is a bid nerve ending to see a coin you just have to have..No I'm not going to cross them over since I have the 29 2K in a NGC MS-66 and the 46 2K in a NGC -64 but have a raw one that would grade a 65 or might just make it to a 66 holder and the 46 1K in a NGC 64

I like the lines and layout of those coins. No dead people memorialized just clean simple design.  Especially the 1929. Nice pick ups.  Wait until you can't buy the coin/s before you have to sell others. Then it gets real :)

Thank you so do I.....And yes it does get real when you have to sell others to get the ones you really want.....:ohnoez:

    Three beauties!

Going through my own Got To Have It moment on the Bay now. All auction, all end at 1:30AM. Going to be a long night, a long expensive night .... Maybe 🙏 🤞.

    Congrats.

    Will you be crossing them?

Thank you....They are beauties...That why I had to have them....:bigsmile::bigsmile:  And good luck with the ones your bidding on....:wishluck:

That's when you put in your best bid, cross your fingers and go to bed. But then... I have a four year old. I can't stay up watching eBay. I would suffer.

That stinks when you have a auction going off in the middle of the night when you have to be sleeping .....zzzzzzzzz    :makepoint::makepoint::makepoint:   But Cain't

  2. I have about 6 or 7 PCGS graded coins that I have plans on crossing over to NGC in the near future and I'm not really concerned about 1 point higher or lower ....It just doesn't matter....What matters is how my set looks like..... I agree with deposito ... I like the set to look uniform..... but I have noticed one thing about PCGS with world coins is that they tend to grade a point above NGC while NGC seems to grade more conservatively which is fine with me. and that's one of the things that I like about NGC...In my opinion PCGS has a cult following and believe they can never do wrong..Like Trump groupie's.

Time and again you show that you have a very good eye for premium quality coins! There may not be another Iceland collection on the face of the earth better than yours! Congratulations! Gary

Thank You Gary......For your very kind words.....    I might just have one of the nicest Icelandic coin collection around. But then again I'm one of the insane one when it comes to collecting these coins... :insane::insane::insane:......   I do have a bunch more (35) to submit ....But the last batch costed me $535 in total and I 'm  waiting to see what comes up at auction this summer...:wishluck:

Always found Iceland coins interesting. Their designs are very much what I envision Iceland life like when they minted them, harsh, rugged, barren, and to the point. Too bad so few people collect them.

Here are a few unusual ones I've picked up over the years.

    81726458.jpg

1957 Eyrir in PR66BN. The only example graded at either PCGS/NGC.

    81726472.jpg

1963 5 Aurar in PR65 BN. Only 5 examples graded by PCGS/NGC with this the finest by a point.

    81726457.jpg

1954 25 Aurar in PR66 Cameo. Only 3 examples graded at PCGS/NGC with this being the only Cameo.

    84343370.jpg

1962 2 Kronur in PR66. Nine total examples graded by PCGS/NGC. Usually found in impaired condition. Tied with 2 others for top pop.

They are great looking coins .....I have three of the 1962 2 Kronur in proof 66 and two others in 63 and 64. and the 58 5 Aurar in 63 RB as well as the 54 25 Aurar in 64 and one raw one which might grade a 65 cameo or up . I don't have any 1 Eyrir from the Republic era Do you still have the coins and if so I would be interested in buying all the 1 eyrir 5 Aurar and the 25 Aurar from you if your willing to sell them. But the 1957 1 eyrir and the 5 Aurar really caught my eye.... Please let me know

A lot of coins I was the underbidder on seem to appear later on dealer sites - seems to happen alot with one dealer in particular xD.

I actually picked up a coin at the Goldberg sale yesterday - I was the only bidder so got it below estimate . Although it was a more common issue* this will be my first mint state example and already graded too. I also think that there are a number of die varieties/pairs for this issue and it will be an upgrade for whichever of my existing examples it matches!

I just need to avoid the Sincona and Kunker auctions now or I really risk not having the funds should one of the real targets appear.

    * The references class it as R1

Congrats...on your new coin ....... :golfclap:

Good luck with the grades - you seem to have an eye for quality in these coins!

Thank you.....I do believe I have a good eye for these coins since I have looked at so many of them I'm at the point were my eyes cant stand looking at them anymore.....O.o

I'm still sitting on my latest submission. It's time for me to get with the plan. I hope you will be happy with all your grades! Gary

Thank you Gary....Well I have to thank.....(worship)   Uncle Sam for the help with that nice check he sent me a few weeks ago...

Good luck with your submission as well ....May the grading Gods be with you.

  9. I understand that feeling of coming close to competition and then completing the series that gives me a good feeling but then a touch of sadness that stir my soul right to the core as if I don't want it to ever end...I know I'm a bit dramatic about it. I think I'm a bit obsessive about my collection always searching for a higher grade coin....So I guess my Icelandic collection will never be complete .....doh!......:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

  10. He's looking good and yes he looks so much like you no losing him in a crowd and the fact he likes coins is a great thing as well a true chip off the old block...... Well it good to hear that he is doing so much better it all takes time...I was also born with many problems as well and one was that I was a preemie as well ...They didn't think I was going to make it.....But I did and grew up to collect and love coins..... Well Happy Birthday and Keep up the good work kid...You have a bright future.....

Iceman, your iceland collection is impressive and your knowledge on the subject must be extremely comprehensive and it wouldn't surprise me if 'The Coinage of Iceland and Greeland' by O. B. Carlson could do with an update as it was published in 1962! Price guides do seem to make many assumptions, particularly on the grades available, which as a collector you rapidly find out that reality can be very different and this coupled with the fact that many reference books for world coins seem to be from the 1960's and 1970's or may even just be the auction catalogue of a specific collection. Fortunately we have access to much more information today with auction records being on-line etc but it does take time to find and understand it.

Thank you...It took a long time to complete to its present completion. I have Carlson's little book and it doesn't say much about them and we need to put something more comprehensive and up to date about Icelandic coins. Krause is no help either and it doesn't reflect the rarity or scarcity of any of the coins in the Kingdom Era. I have a publication in German that is no help either and I have been toying with the idea of putting together a small book about this Era of Icelandic coins I even have the Icelandic publication put out by the National bank of Iceland and they are not much help ...I have found some unpublished varieties and a few other things that are not in any books that I know of ...I might have some time in the next six months to devote To this....:)

  12. I feel your pain. I collect coins from Iceland and I have been focusing on the Kingdom set 1922 to 1942 which comprised of coins which was the first coins minted for Iceland by the Copenhagen mint in Denmark. There is very little info about the minting of these coins and as variety of the small 14mm ! Eyrir which I have found a number of varieties in that series. Its always the least popular coins that get the least amount of attention over the years and when starting this collection back in 2003 I had no idea that it would take me over 16 years to find nice Uncirculated  coins and some of them like the 1933 25 Aurar That I have own seen two of these in Unc and the 1931 2 aurar I have only seen one of.....So yes like you collection you just have to keep at it ....it will all come together with a little persistence and time....So good luck.

  13. That was a great bid of a history lesson ...I really enjoyed it very much . If I'm not mistaken in believing that this was your conclusion to the lapse in mintage of the coins in mention.....I think you hit the nail on the head ..it made sense to me. Well I must say again you do have a way of making your readers interested in the history of coins .....like reading a good thriller you can't but down .(thumbsu(thumbsu(thumbsu
