“I need it for my collection”

For about the last week or so Ben keeps saying that he needs things for his “collection.” He has a robot “collection.” His Legos are a “collection” now. His toys are a “collection.” He needs all my old dice for his “collection.”

I’m not sure where this came from, but I really don’t think it was from me. I don’t think I use the word “collection” around him very often.

I’m thinking he must have gotten this from one of his little shows he watches on Netflix – maybe even power rangers since I think there was a character / villain on that not too long ago that collected “goodies” in glass jars (kinda creepy).

It's cute and all... now he just needs to stop taking all of my stuff!

My kid is about same age as Rev's older one, and has been instructed that, like you, (1) my collection constitutes just part of the lavish grave goods that will fill my tomb; (2) I will haunt him if anything is missing; and (3) everything is also protected by a multi-generational curse

Legos are a collection, in fairness

True, but he never called them that before, and I normally refer to my "sets."

I got that Saturn V rocket for myself one year on my birthday. I had a blast putting it together! It's now on display on a bookshelf. ...And yes, adults also love Lego's.

Check out the prices on some unopened LEGO sets from the 80s and 90s on Ebay and elsewhere; I remember seeing some of those Pirate ships at KMart as a kid and could not get them, and, apparently can never get them now either

I never would have thought this would happen but there seems to be a mini bubble in collecting LEGO sets. I imagine at some point it will pop - just like all collectable bubbles do. But I just buy what's available in the stores now. Right now I'm mostly buying duplos anyway. They're safer and more age appropriate for my boys.

check out bricklink.com, you can buy by the piece from sellers around the world/country.  it's a lot cheaper than buying new sets.  You can clean the parts when they show up.  I've been getting my son tons of duplo parts through that since lockdown.

If you had lego as a kid youtube is a rabbit hole of lego videos showing old sets from the 80s-90s
