  1. Nice 86-D toning. I have several complete sets of circulated Lincoln Memorials but my toner set is incomplete.
  2. It's gonna be interesting to see how PCGS will handle this if they are deemed counterfeit and confiscated. They cannot buy them back. What kind of financial settlement would be fair ? PCGS guarantee ? Who is responsible for trafficking this stuff ?
  3. One thing I haven't seen in this mess is the idea that technical grades are out the window anymore for most series and sadly it may sometimes include common date Morgans. Realistically they probably do the right thing most of the time by assigning a grade that is actually an assessment of the coin's value [an appraisal]
  4. Very few significant raw coins exist anymore and if collectors want them they will simply buy slabbed coins and crack them out. What a great idea
  5. Would you agree though that most details graded coins labeled cleaned would have hairlines usually visible. If not they would probably get a straight grade even though they have been dipped.
  6. Generally a nice coin to me but obverse rim scratches at 3:00 look like tooling though and should result in a details grade if they were consistent.
  7. So these cleaned nickels could be described as fresh from the mint (a second time).
  8. I've instructed my family to submit my graded coins to Great Collections where commissions are low (zero over 1000.00). Also in recent auctions the Morgans I bid on seem to sell for more than FMV with a CAC sticker but don't be too quick to sell unless you really need the money.
  9. That is correct. He doesn't hve a showroom and his online sales are just that. He offers generally high end Franklins and cameo proofs, some of which are finer known pieces. They don't like milk spots or other distractions just the real thing. Some collectors see low auction prices for this stuff and that's what you get ..... low quality.
  10. Yes I have talked to Rick on the phone a few times years ago. No I'm not a fan of telemarketing but have purchased some beautiful cameo proofs from him. I posted a '57 Lincoln recently that was purchased from him during the time he was telemarketing which proves he can multi task. I understand his daughter handles a lot of the sales of late. I do own his books and consider myself lucky enough to have purchased a number of '36 to '42 knockout proof coins that have all since been verified by CAC. Rick also sold some of my coins on consignment when I was in a financial pickle. So you see there are dealers out there whose coins stand alone above the rest, you just have to know where to look.
  11. We spend time in Sarasota with family and otherwise to vacation and I'll bet you would find me tolerable, most I've met there are.
  12. Yep the same dealer who told me that Eric Newman coins were not marketable in NGC holders. They were reholdered by her before they were sold. So that's fine to reholder coins with that kind of pedigree while sitting on that board of experts right ? Really I suspect this kind of conflict is behind PCGS now and only hope this behavior is recognized by us in the know so it is not allowed to skew relative values of marketable numismatic material regardless of whose holder it is.
  13. Not to mention obvious conflicts of interest, but I will anyway. The favored dealers were also on their board of experts and most of us have short memories but I certainly remember one who regularly got their [PCGS only] inventory pieces regraded and then advertised that their coins were fresh to the market. Oh yes just by looking through their own inventory archives these coins were revealed to have been sold by them before. Well that dealer's archives cannot be accessed any longer..... go figure. No it wasn't David Hall.
  14. Food storage bags do not contain PVC but are PE family which is polyethylene. To me ony hard plastics should be used but I recommend only tested and approved materials used for long term storage.
  15. I dont think the Accent Hair Kennedy is anything near even scarce. I've heard guesses of around 100k mintage but dont know without research. Of course any of these in high grade heavy cameo would be desireable but not necessarily rare. Given the fact that many 1964 proof sets were broken up and melted with cents and nickels spent, I put away one cent and one nickel a few years ago of the highest grade Pf 69 Ultra Cameo. Some speculate that the Pointed 9 dime also came from those early sets as well.
  16. What a great idea that was. I'll go one step further and suggest they could issue ammo by request to legal gun owners in order to support healthy suburban sprawl and a self sustaining lifestyle.
  17. Havn't seen any moderns so here goes. If you were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time at the old stadium in Indy, these were handed out on the way in. This superb deep cameo prooflike token has been well preserved since around 2005.
  18. No it's not a perfect coin. It's an MS 70 in their opinion.
  19. You may scoff but air conditioners are made of copper too and thugs like to steal them.
