  1. Actually, I believe they moved to Washington. At least, that's what their website says: https://www.danscousa.com/ It also looks like they've had some setbacks in their transition from their Los Angeles location to their Washington location.
  2. I'm with you on those President Dollars, JP. I don't really like any U.S. coins, but those President Dollars are the worst!! They are SO ugly. At least the original 2000-2008 Sac Dollars had a pretty nice looking eagle on the reverse. There is nothing redeeming about the President Dollars......they're just 100% pure hideousness on both sides on all of the different designs. If I had to pick the worst series the U.S. ever put out, President Dollars would absolutely be what I would choose.......but, I haven't seen one of those new quarters with the dreadful Laura Gardin Fraser obverse in hand yet. I could change my vote when I do....that obverse is just awful.
  3. Everyone who's going to be affected by this....please, stay safe and stay warm!!! Some coin rolls might not be a bad idea, JP!!! As for those of us here in the Finger Lakes, it looks like we're going to dodge Kenan, thankfully!!
  4. Man, isn't THAT the truth, Bill! I somehow doubt that this commem will be a big seller for the Royal Mint.....
  5. That's awful about your friend and your mom. These scammers really don't care about anyone but themselves. They're vicious, evil predators that often know just enough about the law to squeak by without serious legal consequences. It's absolutely horrible. And I'm with you....if I don't know the number, I don't answer my phone. If it's important, they can leave me a voicemail and I'll call them back.
  6. Agreed, Severus. Very nice indeed! Thank you for sharing those with us.
  7. Oh man....the scammers just keep scamming. People will scam anything and anywhere they can....I've had people attempt job scams with me (one had a little degree of success, but I got out quick), trying to get me to "reset my password" on bank accounts I've never had.....you name it. This is really unfortunate and there are going to be some very unhappy people as a result of this.
  8. Nice find. I've found a few of them in our laundry money. It's pretty cool to see them still turning up out there.
  9. Very nice pickup, R_Rash. It never ceases to amaze me how good silver Canadian and British coins look even after they've circulated for a while. They really hold up well! Thanks for sharing those!!
  10. Very nice, Mike!! I love those silver Italian 500 Lire....absolutely gorgeous coins. I also love it when some non-US stuff shows up here.....it makes things more interesting. Variety is the spice of life!!
  11. Roger, I wouldn't waste my time with this guy. He won't listen to you. Coinbuf had this to say about Lahti in one of his other threads: He appears to be a complete, obnoxious, oblivious troll. Hopefully he goes away soon. He's extremely annoying.
  12. That whole generation is almost gone now, sadly. I hope we've gotten a lot of their stories written down so they aren't lost forever.
  13. I'm back over the Inner German Border to my ancestral DDR homeland again. These are the seller's pics:
  14. To Chester...I apologize, too. I'm sorry tj and I went off the rails a bit.....that happens around here sometimes. tj....you're dead on. It's in Berlin in the former East Berlin. While I know nothing about guns, I'm pretty sure 10 Marks was a good price for one! And I commend your creativity in getting it sent back to the U.S. as well. Very crafty . If I ever need to send something that's a no-no, I know who to ask
  15. Hey!!! You be nice about my DDR ancestors and relatives!! We struck the finest aluminium coins you could ever want and Vita Cola is delicious!!! Our ampelmännchen traffic lights are also the best in the world! : But in all seriousness, it sounds like you acquired some cool mementos during your time in Europe. Good stuff!
  16. There are indeed a lot of people in Germany who sell that stuff. I've done business with a lot of them, but for DDR items instead (I actually have a huge DDR flag on the wall behind my bed. Mein Großvater would be so proud )...it's funny, thinking of East German stuff side by side with Nazi stuff, but that's the exact situation for many German dealers. You definitely don't want to show a swastika in Germany, that's for sure!! And I think you've definitely proven what I read....you guys were American service people buying that stuff, right? There are a lot of reasons that people may collect that stuff and some of them actually are good reasons. I'm sure you have your own reasons for collecting it, but I'll never change my mind on it.....I just find it all quite distasteful.
  17. Jonathan has a good suggestion with the Charlton guide. It could be a huge help to you if you have a lot of Canadian coins. As for the Third Reich coins, Jonathan is correct.....a lot of people don't want them around and they can be controversial. I myself collect German coins. They're one of my main pursuits.....but not the Nazi stuff. I definitely don't want it around. It's interesting, though....I've known a lot of Jewish collectors who actually pursue Nazi coins and militaria. These collectors have all said something along the lines that the Nazi stuff is a part of Jewish history as well, and it's important history to remember. And they do have a point....it is important history to preserve and remember, but I myself do not want to be the custodian of that history. I think being descended from East German immigrants and having the culture of the DDR and Germany as a whole as a big influence on my life through my family, I kind of view collecting German coins the way German collectors do. Many German collectors do not add Nazi coinage to their collections and they focus on other areas of German numismatics. I myself prefer East and West Germany. Most collectors of Nazi coins are collectors outside of Germany. I believe that most of them are in the U.S. and Israel, actually, based on an article on the issue I read a few years ago that I cannot locate at the moment. My fiancée is of German-Jewish descent, and she'd actually be more likely to add Nazi coins to her collection than I would for the reasons that Jewish collectors pursue it that I laid out above.
  18. Hi Bill! I've been selling these varieties for years and I know them well. Your 1979 is a Type 2 and your 1981 is a Type 1.
  19. So true, Woods. I'll quit now, too.
  20. That's a very good question, Roger. In my 22, almost 23, years of doing this as an adult and having worked at a coin shop, I have only met one person who collected Trade Dollars as a series. The vast majority of demand for Trades in my experience has been as type coins. They kind of fall into that type demand limbo that a lot of these more obscure U.S. 19th Century types fall into. Just my 2 pfennige.
  21. So true. And in some cases, a particular grading company may completely disregard cameo or ultra cameo on a coin based on an arbitrary definition assigned to a particular coin by a price guide.
  22. Yes indeedy........Ratzie, is that you? Have you changed your name to Robert?
