  1. Don't feel too bad, Coinbuf.......I took an eraser to my fair share of Canadian Small Cents as a child starting out . I think many of us have done some not so great things as young collectors.
  2. Man, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one having these problems!! I was starting to worry it was something with my system!! Hopefully our hosts will get this problem under control soon.
  3. I don't know....that's going to depend on if he wants to try to steal the record from SlickCoins or not, I think.
  4. Thank you for the kind words, Coinbuf and Joe!!! I really appreciate it! I'm so happy that the job hunt is over and I'm so excited to get started. The 1954 Canadian Landscape series is one of the most attractive currency series ever produced by any country. I've found them to be conversation starters myself, Joe. Most people find them to be very attractive. I have a $2 right now and a $5 Star Note on the way. There's nothing wrong with circulated notes at all.....my $1000 will have to be circulated. They're quite pricey in mint state, let me tell you.
  5. Thanks for the kind words, Alex!! I really appreciate it my friend. It's been a long search and I'm glad it's over!! I'm excited to get started with work!
  6. Thanks for the kind words and wishes Neo!! I think this job will do all of the above....it's a pretty good position with a great company. I'm very excited for the opportunity......and I do have my eye on that 1954 Canadian $1000 bill, I must admit
  7. Oh, they definitely are. I've seen some pretty awful cents and nickels, too. I haven't seen any really deplorable quarters yet, but give it time.....I'm sure some will turn up.
  8. I love this story, Jonathan. What an amazing find and an even more amazing story, my friend. My starter coin, the 1947 Maple Leaf Canadian Small Cent just came in my change from buying an ice cream bar in my school's cafeteria when I was 8. Your story kicks my story's behind considerably
  9. The coin that started it for me was a 1947 Maple Leaf Canadian Small Cent that I found in change when I was 8 years old, in 1988. That coin led me to get interested in finding the other dates of Canadian Small Cents. I remember my dad taking me to a local stationary store (remember those?) to get a nice Whitman folder for Canadian Small Cents. I also remember all of the kind people in my life then who let me dig through their pocket change or penny jars to add to my little collection. It's a set I still work on. I could have finished it many times by now, but I'm determined that all of the coins in that set have to be found in the wild by myself or a friend who's willing to make a trade. So, unlike many American collectors, I actually started with Canadian coins and not U.S. As a teenager, I fell away for a few years, before finding my way back to the hobby at 19, in 1999. That time, it was a U.S. find that got me started again, specifically two U.S. finds: A Series 1995 $2 bill and a 1999-D Susan B. Anthony Dollar. I eventually did branch out into U.S. coins, but they failed to hold my interest and I haven't collected U.S. coins (aside from the occasional U.S. coin with a good bird depiction on it) in well over a decade. I do still collect U.S. currency though....that I've never lost interest in. I like U.S. paper money quite a bit. And Canada is still a major interest of mine. Right now, I'm working on a set of the 1954 Series Canadian banknotes......which includes a $1000 bill. But I just got hired for a good paying job yesterday that I start on January 17, so that may be closer to being a reality for me than ever before!
  10. I think you've got it dead on, Woods. That dime was struck from some TIRED dies!!! And lots of mechanical doubling on those 2021 dimes, too. I see lots of it on 2020 dimes as well. The cents of those years are almost as bad....at least for the Philly strikes. I'm in Philly territory.
  11. You're not kidding!!! And I'm certain both he and my fiancée's great aunt, who is our landlady, would be epically thrilled with me when my giant tetra aquarium fell through the 171-year-old upper floor . But that's okay......Hisako and Lenny are plenty to keep my hands full, trust me!!
  12. I hear you there. Our apartment is the second floor of a house built in 1850. This fact plays a big role in my present status as a micro-aquarist.
  13. You know where I was when this all went down? At the damned grocery store . I didn't even know it happened until I came on here. That's alright though.....I hope that everyone who wanted one and missed out the first time was able to snag what they wanted for their collections!
  14. If that's the case, then I think it's going to be a bad day for ol' Ron.
  15. Yep. They're the very same coins and the very same guy. He needs to just send the damned things in and stop trying to sell his grading views to everyone once again.
  16. Man, I'd love a 55!!! I wish I had the space!! At this point, I have no idea what I'd put in it because I'd be like a kid in a candy store!!
  17. Right now, I just have a single Plakat Betta with a Marimo Moss Ball in a six gallon. Our apartment is kind of small and we already have our Box Turtle, whose enclosure takes up a lot of space. But I love Bettas and I love fish keeping, so I'm happy with my little Hisako (his name) and his smaller tank. In the past, thought, when I've had more space I've kept all kinds of tropical freshwater fish and goldfish. But Bettas are some of my faves.....they have a ton of personality and each one is such a unique individual, I've found. How about you Morpheus? Do you keep fish?
  18. Oh no Hog!!! That's just crazy.....that had to be quite the situation and quite the mess!! I've never had that one happen but when I was a kid, my sister's cat managed to do something similar with my turtle Lenny's terrarium. Lenny hated that particular feline and took his opportunity to take a chomp out of him!! Now, THAT was a mess......pissed off turtle, howling, running cat with a bleeding paw.....but I'll say this.....that cat NEVER got on top of an aquarium or terrarium again in his entire life!! And Lenny, well, he actually seemed rather satisfied with himself.....I think he'd been waiting for his chance to bite that cat for a few years at that point. This was a fun story to tell the vet when we took the cat to see if he needed anything for the paw. The vet seemed somewhat amused because the story was so crazy. He'd never had to treat a cat with a turtle bite from it falling through the screen of a terrarium before. The funny thing is Lenny actually likes most cats....it was just that one particular cat that p*ssed him off for some reason.
  19. No kidding. If I were in Europe and I found them, I'd likely just spend them again and hope a kid or a new collector found them. They're probably not worth much more than face, if anything over it, actually. Maybe old George77 needs to track down SlickCoins or Ratzie33.....that's probably the only way he'd ever manage to sell the thing.
  20. I'm with the others......post-minting damage on the 1940 and no tripling on the second coin.
  21. No kidding. This was ridiculous. Yet another person with an essentially worthless coin arguing with someone knowledgeable who tells them the truth. To the OP....you need to look at completed listings on eBay to get a true idea of a coin's value from eBay listings. That way, you can see what they actually sold for if any sold at all. People can list things at any price they want on eBay. I could go on today and list a bottle of the water I took out of my aquarium doing a water change for $1,000,000. But that doesn't make a bottle of old aquarium water worth $1,000,000. That is the flaw in your whole argument. Please go look at eBay completed listings for coins like yours.
  22. Yes indeed. I'm with you on this whole issue, my friend. Pure waste of silver.
  23. Hi William!! I can confirm one thing for you.....the 1888 you mentioned was definitely graded recently. My last sales lot to NGC that I received back the other day had an invoice number that started with 579. As for the Specimen Z coins....sounds like you have a bit of a mystery on your hands, my friend. I'm sorry that dealer would not check dates for you on the 10Gs. That sucks. I ran into that a couple times back when I was more active with non-ancient coins than I am now. Some dealers just don't want to expend the extra effort. One question though: did you make sure to tell them that you weren't looking for the discount price on the dates you needed? If you didn't, telling them that might make a difference. Many sellers are much more willing to expend that extra effort if you're willing to forfeit the discount price for them to check dates for you. It might be worth a try. ~Tom
