  1. I like that one. Now I am going to have to try to put together a complete set.
  2. I couldn't resist buying this one. No description necessary.
  3. Leave it up. It may help a future collector. And, if I haven't already told you, "Welcome to the forum."
  4. Ditto. I place my bid, and then forget about it until the auction is over.
  5. Viola: stringed musical instrument, shaped like a violin, but slightly larger. Voila: an expression meaning, " there it is!" Walla: half of the name of a city in Washington.
  6. Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to inform you that your coin is a fake. You did not show a picture of the reverse, but there is enough evidence on the obverse to show that it is not real. Compare your coin to the picture below. Pay close attention to the hair detail. That should be all you need to convince you that your coin does not match a real one. (Picture courtesy of our host)
  7. If the eagle isn't straight up when you flip ol' George over, then you have a slightly rotated die error. The rotation is not enough to cause it to be worth a premium, but it is kind of cool. The surface etching, however, is just damage. That did not happen at the mint.
  8. I didn't even turn my computer on this past weekend, so I missed whatever happened. No need to lose any sleep over missing it, though. Another one will come along soon enough...
  9. Please post links to any websites that you have seen which have examples of people actually paying "lots of money" for coins like this. (Your example is a large date, minted in Philadelphia, most likely a brass example, judging from the appearance. It is not rare).
  10. Which coin are we talking about now - the half dollar, or the half cent?
  11. There would be no need for the mint to re-strike existing coins. Are you perhaps referring to the 7/8 tail feather reverse that RWB mentioned above? As he stated in his post, these were the result of existing 8-feather dies being re-hubbed with a slightly different design which had 7 tail feathers.
  12. Actually, that sounds smart to me.
  13. I'm sorry, but I don't decipher cryptic sentences like this very well. What are you saying here?
  14. Are there very many dealers selling exonumia? How about paper money?
  15. Without question it does, and it diminishes collector value, as well.
  16. GC = Great Collections. Click here for GC website HA = Heritage Auctions Link Here Be very wary of ebay sellers claiming "estate sale find" etc.
  17. Welcome to the forum. Good looking coin you found! Post some nice close-ups if you can.
  18. Checking the last 4 sales on Heritage auctions, I came up with: 2/1/15, NGC MS62, $285.50 6/6/10, NGC MS62, $322.00 - NGC MS62, $460.00 - NGC MS63, $402.50 The only AU53 that I found was back on 2/7/2010 that sold for $253.00. According to Ebay sold listings, your coin was sold yesterday (6/29/22 at 1:27 PM) for $499. plus shipping.
