  1. I would like to repeat what others have said, just for emphasis. Just because a seller lists a coin for a very high price does not mean that the coin is worth what they are asking. It also does not mean that they are actually selling any coins at that price. (hopefully not). Etsy is probably the worst place on the web to buy coins. For every legitimate seller, there are hundreds of scammers and thieves who are hoping to make a big score off some unknowing newcomer. My advice: stay away from Etsy and other similar places when looking for coins to buy, or when trying to determine the true value of your coins. Use patience, and do some diligent research before trying to buy or sell anything. The coins posted above would be fun pocket change finds, considering that they have been around for more than half a century, but honestly, they are only worth face value. And if I haven't already said so, "Welcome to the forum."
  2. Welcome to the forum. The above answers are dead on. Looks like it spent a good bit of time in a corrosive environment. It is a spender, although a Coinstar machine would probably reject it.
  3. Those are nice family heirlooms that don't need to be imprisoned in a slab. Enjoy them as is.
  4. Those are impressive looking medals. I particularly like the Armand Caque piece.
  5. No fair. You can't start a thread like this and only post one side of three medals. You have to post lots of pictures. Let's see 'em....
  6. One other thing: you need to crop, print, and frame that picture of her pointing at the coin. That look that she is giving you is cuter than a basket full of puppies.
  7. Checking the price guide, I see variety prices for some coins but not all. Quite a few under the Morgan heading, but not many under Bust Halves, for example. I assume a variety would have to have enough documented sales in a short period of time to establish a trend, in order to be listed. What coins are you looking to price?
  8. She's hooked, for sure. It is great that you two can share this love of collecting. Don't ever take it for granted.
  9. Wait - what? Did you just say that, because there is a die crack on your coin, the person portrayed is no longer Neil Armstrong, but is now Alan Shepard?
  10. I believe the point is that Breen invented many varieties that have later been found to be merely a figment of his imagination. The jury is still out on just what your coin really is, regardless of what you personally feel that it is. Hey, most everyone who posts on this forum would be tickled pink if you actually found a D/S, but apparently, very few think one actually exists. If that hurts your feelings, you may want to post on a coin forum whose members do not tell you the truth about what they think. Here, you are likely to get the unvarnished truth. Either way, good luck with your future collecting.
  11. Please provide a link to the article that shows NGC announcing the find.
  12. From what I have seen, key dates and rarities do sometimes (often?) get graded liberally. I personally do not like or agree with the practice. I am in agreement with you: an XF should be an XF, and an AU should never be called MS.
  13. Professional music? Are you a composer, musician, singer, or something else?
  14. Don't care for the moniker, since the bison actually has four legs, but one has been polished away. Don't think a coin struck by an over polished die is worth a premium just because someone came up with a name for it, either. But, I don't control the market or collectors' tastes, so to each his/her own. It definitely is not my place to define another's collecting preferences.
  15. I am one who does not care for cute names attached to varieties. "Bugs bunny" , "Speared eagle", and the like are not my cup of tea.
  16. That looks like an extreme case of strike doubling. It is not a doubled die.
  17. I am glad you were able to find a van. Beats having to catch a ride with some polka band from Wisconsin. I am out of the loop, apparently. What happened with the airlines?
