It's more so the fact that you pay for an advertised service in an advertised time frame and that's kind of what you're expecting.   If that's not what you're getting then you're overpaying for a service that's not as advertised.   It borders on false advertising and seems to be a convenient "out" for however long it takes.    Maybe I would have selected a service that cost half as much had I known to expect to be waiting anyway, even for express.

Well, if you know in 2 weeks, or even 3, that's still a heck of a lot better than 4 months (or 6, or 8...). And when you factor in waiting for it to reach them it's really more like knowing in 2 weeks from when you mailed it off vs 3. So you're paying to know faster, and you're going to know a lot faster. So, I'd say you're still getting what you're paying for - you're still moving to the front of the line and finding out months sooner.

Trust me, I wasn't happy about this when it was me either, and there's plenty to complain about, but not sending things in and waiting for this to pass isn't going to help if you want something graded before 2023 or 2024. And I've known too many people that worked in Customer Service roles to not be as nice as I can bring myself to be to those folks. lol

The "what's the rush" thing was more just joking about the fact that I don't think I'd ever be able to convince myself to pay that much more for a service that, as you say, already isn't cheap, to get something faster, unless I had a strong, compelling need for that thing to be graded. I'm just too cheap for that. lol

Well, express is supposed to be 6 days turn around time.  Can tell you it's been there for 4 business days now and is not entered into the system yet.  It's a very small order.

As they are quick to point out, these are estimates - and sometimes they're quite bad estimates. I had a World modern sub that I sent in with a ~44 day estimate and it took about 85 days (by my count anyways...).

While they have gone on the record several times saying that this turnaround is estimated based on when the box is delivered to the facility by USPS, this forum is full in threads where they quote a number of days as how long something has been there that is closer to / apparently based on when the box was opened and entered in, not when it was marked as delivered by USPS or their tracker said it was in the building. I've also gotten similar treatments from their replies to emails IIRC. This apparent inconsistency has been pointed out several times and I haven't seen a very clear response on it so far. So... (shrug)

If you don't mind me asking, what has you in such a rush? Is one of the coins a valentine's present or a birthday present, or something? At least, for the moment, there's no awards deadline hanging over us like the sword of Damocles. lol

It stinks, but I do think they're trying their best, and I think the only way to deal with it right now is just to try to build-in at least a 2x factor on their advertised turnaround as a buffer for if you have any make-or-break or critical deadline.

    Hello,

We would prefer that they be submitted in flips.  The reason is that our receiving department will need to remove them and place them in flips and that puts them more behind than they are already now.  When we weren't as busy as we are now, it really didn't matter.

    Thanks,

    Lisa

Thanks for the reply. The idea had actually been to have them in flips in the page pockets, but it ultimately sent these out just in flips, rubber banded together in groups of 4-6. So should be good. Thank you again. :)

  4. Thank you, Lisa!

Based on USPS Tracking NGC should be in possession of the box either today or tomorrow.

I've said this elsewhere but the price increase is well warranted and I thought quite restrained. I'd really been thinking Moderns might get bumped to an even $20 this year with inflation doing what it has been doing and with you folks having to pay out hiring bonuses, overtime, and paying to expand facilities.

  5. I received an email today that indicated that prices were going up and that all boxes received on or after 2/1 would be subject to the higher fees. I mailed off a box on Friday the 14th that had the grading and the return shipping fees calculated based on the old pricing. It should arrive at NGC this week but, with the delays on opening incoming mail, I'm thinking the box probably won't be opened until after Valentine's Day. Am I correct in thinking that both the grading services and the return shipping will be handled at the old rate, even if you don't open my box until after 2/1?

  6. Call me crazy but I had thought they already had to pay to be an authorized dealer.

For people that have a business that is an ongoing concern, I don't think $200 will move the needle much. For people that have just been sitting on it and not using it much, they'll probably get rid of it.

Side note: I got the email recently about the price increases on grading fees. I wasn't at all surprised, but I was very glad I went ahead and got a recent submission off and in the mail.

  7. There's a couple of things I can think of here:

    1) They may not sell enough / have enough sale records to have a price in the guide. My 1932 set vs My Zimbabwe set:

    image.thumb.png.1a76f066be3f692fe25cb10aace7c46d.png

    2) When you have a wide screen, you see everything. When you narrow the display, the system drops some columns to keep things from getting cluttered: My '32 set when I narrow the window enough:

Notice how the Cert#, the price and the eBay shop column all drop out. I never see those columns when looking on my phone.

    Hi, Thanks,

I did as you said but it says nothing to download. Maybe as you say its a minor award so nothing to mail, email or download?

Yes, they have my email address on file. I've attached screenshots.....perhaps I was in the wrong place?

I'd remove the screen shots showing your physical address. But if that address is up to date you'll get your plaque mailed there.

We do post this information on our website, www.ngccoin.com under SUBMIT then SERVICES AND FEES.

    Thank you,

I'm not sure when this was added but I love this addition to the website / submission tracker. So, thank you / the team / the webmaster for that one.

Our teams are working 10-12 hours a day and Saturdays.  Your patience is appreciated.

Ouch! Thanks for doing your best!

  10. In the past I've shipped coins to NGC with them in short stacks that I had wrapped in a rubber band or one of my wife's hair-ties. I'm getting ready to send in another shipment and I was considering leaving them in a BCW flip page, accordian folding it and wrapping the four coloumns with bands / ties - either that or just wrap bubble wrap around the bundle. I'm wondering if this would meet expectations for NGC on packing or if it would result in additional headaches and charges..

The Instructions that NGC gives on the website indicate how to put the coins in flips and to not cut, glue or staple, but it doesn't comment on how to bind the coins together and pack them

    This registry is weird.

Not really. There was an error. It looks like they fixed it, but your claim that this cost you your #1 position was incorrect - It cost Deepsjordan the win. Nwade was on top yesterday and now that they fixed it Deepsjordan is winning. And so they gave the award ribbon to him/her. Based on the score histories it looks like you were behind them by about 400 points before today, so it isn't their rescoring that gave him the win over you.

Since I do not have a Registry "per se" mine is a custom set. I cannot find where I click to have it mailed to me.

It says I don't have any awards.

    Thanks,

Do you have a mailing address listed on your account? If so they'll send the plaque there. The plaques for the major awards are mailed automatically to the address on your account. The certificates for categories are digital downloads or you request that they send printed ones. But those also automatically go to the address they have for your account. So do you know how to check your account information?

    Hi William!

I know the sets you're speaking of and I think that the protectors you are looking at would work fine provided the sets will fit in the protectors.  I don't remember the exact size of those sets, but you should be able to find something that they'll fit in, I'd imagine.

I hope this is of some help!

    ~Tom

The ones I have seem to be 8 X 11.5. My sheet protectors are 8.5 X 11. So they'll poke out a bit on top but I think it'll work well enough as long as it isn't going to trash the coins. Thanks!

  14. I'm looking at / getting some of these "Coin Sets of All Nations from the Franklin Mint and I'm trying to decide how best to store them. I have some sheet protectors advertised as PVC Free and I'm thinking / hoping I could get away with stcking these in the sheet protectors in a binder and storing them with my other raw coins that way.

Anyone else think that would be a problem?

  15. I said in the last thread about these, these coins just don't look pretty, much less beautiful to me, and I have no daughters to catch the imagination of, only 2 sons.

I made a journal recently about the early 1900s Italian 20 C coin. That coin immediately struck me when I saw it. That coin I thought was cool and it immediately made me want it in my collection.

I looked at these the first time and I just blinked a bit, and then shrugged a little. They just seem "Meh."

I have an abandoned set of Statehood quarters and I'm not adding an abandoned set of these.

Hello all, I have started a custom collection on the registry named "Morgans & Peace Dollars. I would appreciate if an administrator or one of you veterans could see if I'm on the right track ? I apologize for my naiveness for this platform - blame it on my age LOL

What made you go for a Custom set for these as opposed to a competitive set?
