Oh that stinks! That's where I lived, I loved the old collector societies basic structure. Oh well, I'll adapt.

Yeah... Well, for us Split Householders that walk on both sides of the NGC/PMG line there's not many good alternatives. For anyone that wants to do anything with signature sets there's not a lot of good alternatives to using the old site.

The three things that probably keep me from having any meaningful use of the new site is:

    - There is absolutely no PMG aspect to the registry in the new system.

    - There is no signature / custom function in the new system.

    - Even if / when PMG and sig sets join the new system, if these boards are any indication, it will be much less convenient / easy to switch between the NGC and PMG sections than with the old system, which made it very easy.

But... the old site is slipping away step-by-step.

This coin is not cleaned. I know it’s not for a fact.

Okay, so... I'm not trying to be mean and beat you up, but... You can't possibly know this.

That coin is from 1874. I don't know how old you are but there is zero chance you're over 150 years old. There is zero chance you've had this coin in your possession since it came from the mint 147 years ago. There is no way you can make that comment with that level of certainty. For what it's worth, I have a quarter from 1854 that looks similar that I would never pay to submit just because I completely lack confidence that it would come back with anything but a details grade. Have I cleaned it? No. But I'm pretty sure someone else did before it came to me around 2008.

  3. I don't like this. But it doesn't matter to me.

What I collect (mostly NCLT, low premium world gold, and hyperinflation currency) doesn't really get stickered - there's no value in it. If others want to throw money away by starting to sticker these things let them. I'm not going to do it. I win two categories now mostly because I have no competition or no serious competition. I just don't play in that part of the pool. (shrug)

  4. There's been a 1932 mint set for years that beat ours but they kept it obscured. I've often wondered what the deal was with that set, but...

This would have to be a voluntary enforcement/ compliance issue for the reason that Ali lists and because a dealer could always just have an account with a more subtle name and how would NGC ever know? They'd have to self-report.

Filter / sort by the sets with pictures and enjoy. ;)

NGC has the option of disabling/limiting the submissions page  for a short amount of time, but, of course this will not be considered a valid option because it is a business and profit the ultimate goal irrespective of the fact that most customers, if not all, are unhappy because NGC has made a mockery of the turnaround times (and I am not even taking into consideration the time it takes to get submissions into the system after they have been delivered to NGC).

Maybe so, but that would probably just create a backlog of demand and once they opened up again they'd just get slammed again. Just my 2 cents.

People can also do what I somewhat accidentally did - fill out the forms and have them ready to go and leave them sitting on my desk for 3 months. Then they get sent in - freeze or no.

Not the only time, but it is unusual.  Contemporary counterfeit bust halves can bring some good money, the is a counterfeit Vermont copper Ryder 5 I think that brings a good price.  Then there is the counterfeit 1818 cent and the 1848 small date cent, they can bring thousands.etc.

There's a thread elsewhere where someone has an NGC graded ancient forgery. I think it's interesting the NGC encapsulated it as a "genuine counterfeit" essentially from Roman times and not a modern fake.

Actually, NGC comes out smelling like a rose.  Virtually everyone has praised them and said they did nothing wrong.  The probably realize they have a very disappointed client who really may have thought he had $200,000 in coins (I assume he inherited them) and now finds they are worth at most 1% of that value.

Yes, kudos to NGC for letting The Truth rule on these forums, unlike others, and I think they have come out a winner by letting everything flow here and let it enhance their integrity and reputation.

I agree they come out good here. Just saying - it amazes me how often people come to these boards specifically to trash the company that pays to support these boards. I don't understand what they expect this to accomplish and why they feel the need to escalatea complaintso. Every time I have ever contacted NGC privately with a problem they have taken care of me without putting them on blast.

  8. Wow. I go away for a few days to do some house shopping and things get interesting.

I would feel for Joe and sympathize if he was a little more humble and less libelous in his statements. It's always amazing when people find or buy (at super low prices) these coins that are really rare and valuable and don't seriously question the authenticity of this stuff. It really goes to show you how the counterfeiter and con men continue to make a living.

This whole thing has me thinking of that time I looked on that WISH website and they were selling Morgan dollars for $1 and people were posting about how happy they were with their new "coin." O.o

But... yeah. Props to NGC. They are the most tolerant host I think I've ever seen. If someone called me a thief in my own house they'd be getting hit with the door on the way out.

In the garb of "Turnaround times are not guaranteed" NGC cannot and must not take twice the turnaround times. I try not to lose my cool, but at this point it is not acceptable.

It's rough and it sucks but I'm notnsure it has an easy fix.

It's been crazy times and CoVID hit them like everyone. They have to protect their employees and maintain their social license to operate in an industry that requires them to be physically present to look at very valuable, secured items in facilities that probably were not originally designed for social distancing. And once you get really behind it can be very hard to catch back up.

Yeah, but the only downside is you can't see the coin. xD

I don't know... if it was a smaller coin - like a Sovereign or something nickel ish in size or smaller I think you could get 4 stickers using a 4 corners approach without hiding the coin. The 5th might be tricky. It would be ridiculous as all hell to see but you could probably pull it off. lol

Now, a Morgan? Nah. No chance. You're covering the coin or the label in some major way.

Congrats on the award again and on a very pretty coin. It looks like USPS just dropped mine off but I'm probably not going to get to do anything with it until I'm no longer on the clock and my kids are in bed.

Not sure if you could ever submit direct without a paid membership, at least in the last 5 years. At any rate, if you are an ANA member you can submit without a paid membership. Also, if I remember correctly, the Premium membership costs $150 dollars but comes with a $150 grading credit so as long as you submit $150 worth of coins that membership is essentially free with direct submission privileges. You can also submit through a NGC authorized dealer. Enhance your calm.

You had to be a paid / premium member to submit in 2008.

Actually, no.  Those were $100 trillion bank notes.  You are a multi-trillionaire.  And it doesn't matter whether they appreciate in value or not.  They are worth a lot more than what you paid for them and someone somewhere will always want one.  Having one in your pocket puts pep in your step and jut in your strut. 😉

The 100T and the 50T in particular still trade at nice premiums. The vast majority of the others you can have for $1-5. The graded notes sell for the grading fees or less unless you're buying very high grades. That's one of the reasons I just bought my whole set graded when I wanted to build that signature set. Why take a risk on buying raw and going through the grading process when I can get a good grade at low or no premium?
