Any silver coin is a cool find. I came across people at a convenience store once who'd just found a Mercury dime and they were excited; it was fun to tell them more about what they had.
In layperson's terms, even if that coin were brand new, it probably would be worth about $5. To be worth more, it would have to be in truly exceptional shape. This would be true no matter where it was minted. However, being mostly silver, it wakes up in the morning worth something just for existing. At yesterday's price, that would be $2.81. So while it's cool, and definitely worth more than a quarter, you definitely would not want to put up $30-60 getting it graded.

It's noviceness. From people not understanding that the U.S. Mint is in Philadelphia, and that there have been branch mints over the years (and still are). They don't know what descriptor to use, and they mean 'no mint mark' but do not realize that this means Philadelphia. They do not realize that all they have to do is state the year, and if they do not append a MM, origin at the U.S. Mint is assumed.

Would it really harm people writing twelve lines of text if they were to end some sentences with punctuation and start new ones?
Otherwise it reads like this except usually there are far more misspelled words because that seems par for the course I know that nowadays people are typing on their phones and with educational standards in the toilet people can barely write anyway but please think about those of us who have to try and make sense of this *spoon* it really gets tiring and you gain nothing from making us struggle to help you this reads so garbage it would surprise me if anyone were still reading it but somehow one needs to get the message across as to how unhelpful this is let's go back to basics sentences are supposed to begin with upper case in English and end with a period question mark or exclamation point it might amaze you how much clearer your writing can be if you will bother to learn that simple truth if you do not then do not be surprised if no one replies to your posts because I for one am not going to shovel my way through this sort of *spoon* any more I have better things to do and I suspect most regulars do as well at least except for one or two who are regulars from under the bridge if you know what I mean anyway by now I trust I have made my point not that I expect it to make much difference in the ultimate outcome.

Damage doesn't cancel out anything; it just makes the coin less desirable. The way grading services reckon it, which makes sense to me, is that it's a property of the coin. For example, that one I'd call VG details, damaged. I am not sure how they decide at what point a nick is so large it counts as damage, but if I had to guess, I'd guess that damage is something clearly uncharacteristic of normal wear. So on your quarter, that pinch cutting into the eagle's wing, that's pretty obvious. But the smaller pinch just affecting the rim? Might not rise to the level of damage. Or it might. One bears in mind that on my screen, this coin is the diameter of a softball. In hand, it's not, and that small one might not be very noteworthy. It would screw up a very high grade, but as we know, a high grade isn't in play for this one.

You are conflating two different uses of the same word. A flip is our term for a small and inexpensive coin holder, either cardboard with a mylar window or solid thin plastic designed to fold over. While we might say we "flipped" a coin as a quick turnaround, like people do with house renovations, here we mostly use the verb to mean the act of putting the coin into a flip. The danger is in assuming the wrong meaning.

62 might not be wrong. It's likelier to be correct than, say, 67. It would depend whether the issues visible are part of the holder or part of the coin.

The answer to your original question is yes, you should nearly always grade all coins you care about. But what you really meant was whether you should pay $30-60 to have them graded by a service, and the answer is only if you are pretty sure that they are worth enough money to make $30-60 well worth spending, and also if you are pretty sure they won't come back non genuine, or with a details grade (problem coin).

JKK got a reaction from Chad D. in JFK Error opinions
That's a weird JFK because its fields show flow lines not uncharacteristic of uncs, but the details are very mushy. A part of me wants to suppose it is a severely deteriorated die. It's not the sort of coin that would normally make sense to counterfeit, but the strike is muddy enough that if it were a different coin, one might ask about authenticity. It's reasonable to wonder just what could have made that mess on JFK's temple (which given historical circumstances is a bit of damage in atrocious taste, but certainly not your fault).
I kind of begin to wonder whether it's brockage: a second JFK, flipped over (thus obverse to obverse), stuck in the die. I'm not sure if brockage is even the correct term for that. I suppose PMD is possible, but the only PMD that would create such muddy details on the reverse would be a real bad dip in something like phosphoric acid, and the first casualty there would have been the flow lines; it would also be pitted, nasty nasty.
From the smaller circular evident raising or lowering (can't tell which) on the obverse, I wonder if maybe a quarter reverse happened to end up being struck into this obverse, but that's just a wild speculation.

JKK got a reaction from GoldFinger1969 in Help with large World Collection
The reality is that if the catalog value (which is based on Fantasy Island) is around $10K, you might get a dealer to pay $2000-2500--if they wanted to take it all. Many dealers would not. For the prospective buyer, it gets into "what would this be worth to me?" As you know, going through such a collection is an enormous task. Many dealers wouldn't spend that kind of time. There aren't as many US collectors for world coins. That's why it's a cheap way to participate in the hobby. That's one reason I do it, that and some language talent and a fascination with world history.
So. When it's that big, probably no one is going to give you $5K because it's not worth that to them. Your realistic range might be $2-3K. There's always this: divide it into ten lots, create a listing for one lot with photos of the main coins and the whole lot with written description of the rest in bulk. Put it up there for a seven-day auction starting at $0.99, no returns, and see what you get for that batch. Participate in the free shipping shell game; I'm betting one of these lots could fit into a flat rate box. Figure that if you got over $300, you'd be killing it. See what you do get. Whatever happens, you got rid of 10% of the pile, you got an idea what the online market would pay, and you got around the "what would this be worth to me" problem because no one is contemplating getting $2500 real value of world coins sent to them as a big project to which they have to say: "Well, I'd like it, but it's not worth $2500 to me. It's worth $1200 to me, and I'll give you that for it." If I looked it over, I'd be thinking of the vastness of the project. At 1/10 of the pile, not as much.
I'm not sure this is the ideal time for this, though. At least with cards, I'm seeing sellers not get the money they want, and making lower offers to watchers. I'm replying with lower counter-offers--and the sellers are accepting. Put cruelly, some people are going to have to unload some stuff to make ends meet, and there will be fewer buyers, driving prices down.
