  1. I thought this might be fun. Post any coin that represents a quarter of a unit, which could include foreign coins. Quarter Dollars, Quarter Eagles and quarter oz bullion are the first ones that come to mind. I'll start with an SLQ
  2. To expound upon my previous statement, that ding is all I can see now so I think it would bother me too much to buy it, unless it was a steal.
  3. I don't think I could afford the popular colonial issues. I got this German coin cheap, just for the date though.
  4. Well, I could ramble on all day about coins I like and want, but I try to keep my focus from being too big. As for prices at shows, I usually get prices significantly lower than ebay BIN items. I've occasionally overpaid at a show, but it's usually for something with outstanding eye appeal that fits my collection perfectly.
  5. My dad got me started early by giving me proof sets and Silver Eagles for birthdays, etc. And by bringing parts of his collection home from the safe deposit box to show me. Somewhere around age 10-11 he gave me an 1899-O Morgan that I'd say is about MS62. I remember that one kind of getting me hooked. Throughout growing up I continued getting the occasional coin from my dad, but didn't do much else. Around age 22 I got back into collecting and was very active from 2006-2010. At that time I hated slabbed coins. My collecting varied but was mostly focused on filling an album with nice raw Walkers. I bought a little on ebay and at an LCS. But made most of my purchases at coin shows 2 hours away. I just remembered that I was also filling a lot of folders with change finds at that time. I completed state and territory quarters x3, Sacajawea dollars, and most of the Jeffersons. The I got sidetracked and was basically out of the hobby from 2012-2020. Right before the covid price surge I went to a LCS and got some pre-33 gold for decent prices. That kind of rekindled my interest. I started buying slabbed PCGS and NGC graded coins on ebay. My slabbed Walking Liberty set started with me just wanting a nice MS66. Then I decided to get all of "the war years" '41-45. Next thing ya know I had put a Walking Liberty short set up on the registry here. I'm still working on raw Walkers for the album and slabbed Walkers. Counting both raw and slabbed I am only 5 coins away from having every date and mm. I expanded to collecting by type as well, and have also acquired a taste for Seated Halves. I'll leave it at that for now before my post gets any longer.
  6. I don't think playing a Kennedy off a Seated Liberty was an option.
  7. My drive to the St. Charles convention center is just slightly under 2 hours. I arrived around 11:00. And covered the bourse quickly looking for Walkers. The July show was better. I ended up walking the entire bourse many times. This show did used to be called something like “The Silver Dollar and Rare Coin expo” and silver dollars were in abundance, to the exclusion I believe, of other series’. The show there in July had a better vibe and definitely more variety. There seemed to be a lot more bullion being displayed and sold this time than the July show as well. Besides silver dollars, there were a lot of nice gold coins. Walking Liberties weren’t abundant, imo, and I only got one. I had planned to get more. So I moved lower on my priority list to gold for my type set. Got 2 nice examples. By that time I was down to a few hundred left in my budget. Decided I’d get a small gold coin for close to melt, but something interesting or old. I found the Dutch gold coin not knowing much about it besides its gold content and price. When I got home I looked up Queen Willhelmina and got a really great history lesson. One of the great parts of the hobby, and it made me really like that coin. On my way home headed west on 70, right around the time I made it from urban sprawl to rural area, the front right tire of my truck blew out going about 75mph. I safely made it to the shoulder right by the Jonesburg exit, if anyone knows the area. By coincidence I had signed up for AAA 2 months ago. They had me back on the road in 49 minutes. All in all everything worked out alright. I consider it a good day despite the tire fiasco. I'll post pics of all 4 coins I bought, even though I already posted the Dutch gold and the quarter eagle in other threads. I'm making progress with my photography, but it's still hit or miss.
  8. One of 4 coins I bought at a coin show in the St. Louis area Thursday. And also 2 of the best coin photographs I've managed to take so far.
  9. 68.5? Since when do we have half grades? Edit: Is that another way of saying 68+?
