  1. Hey @zadok, sure, it contributes nothing to no one, but it's fun! It's camaraderie! A bunch of guys with nothing in common with everything in common. A little escape. These aren't finds from the past, btw. These were found today, and that's all I'll ever post, that day's finds. Unless otherwise noted. I'll say, didn't find these, they were a gift! Or something to that effect. I have a pretty decent reputation with some well known members, so you don't think I'm blowing smoke.

so yes, if all you're coming for here is knowledge, not the thread for you. But if you want to come by, see what's still in circulation, crack a meister brau, chat with the fellas, then heck yeah, drop in and say hi. Post up a pic of a cool coin you found, at any time in your life. All are welcome. If not, i totally understand, and respect, and wish you and yours nothing but the best. But i do hope to see you back. (Last time I'll ever call you out, promise, and my apologies for doing so.)

don't worry fellas, @Frank @ShinyObjects, i didn't forget you guys, just didn't find anything that said, "you guys". Have a great afternoon, everyone!

  2. Welcome back, on this Tuesday afternoon in the sweltering hot, tri-state area. It's been a week, can you believe it? Just shy of 1000 views, that's about what i was doing over there, so. There's that.

Today has been fun! Instead of going into it thinking, "me me me", i went into it thinking, what can i find to represent my friends over on NGC? But of course, we'll start things off with the junk. I said waaayyy in the beginning, a week ago, that i find impaired proofs, then only found like, one, all week. Found a couple today.

Low mintage 1.4M. "Uncirculated" Sad CJ73 naive story, it can be traced back to CT, on my original daily thread. I found this in S proof, only 900k minted, but i only knew about silver, back then. So i took a pic to post, and threw it back. Will NEVER happen again. Sigh, what a maroon.

LoL  ya there are quite a few members that have the coin books. I think I saw a photo DW Lang and a couple of others posted of a whole book cases with 4 or 5 shelves of all coin books. I never thought about putting the books together when I was younger. I was always to busy. I just put the keepers in a jug and said when I get older I will maybe go through my change and see what I have. Well I made it I am older :preach: time to make the books

I have zero interest in coins, other than how much i can make off them, so books were never a thought, until i realized it'll be much easier to organize with a few books. I don't purchase coins, for other than face value, so all coin in my books are "circulation" finds. But the more modern ones are impaired proof only. I only started "collecting" about 2 years ago.

@CoinJockey73 Are you aware that Treashunt has a 15+ page going on CT about trying to get you unbanned? lol

FWIW I've never had a problem with cointalk.

But it seems like a lot of members who joined in the last year or two have had unexplained tech problems and/or bans like the OP's.

And a lot of the ancient members did leave a while back due to some long stupid argument. But I always thought the ancient section had kind of a weird vibe, very unwelcoming to people who aren't experts on their area of collecting. And 1 or 2 I know were major jerks lol. So the whole thing was just entertainment for me. And there is still plenty of knowledge in the ancients section, just a little less activity.

Yeah, he liked what i had going on, over there.

It's funny, i remember watching the children bicker on CT, bunch of spoiled rotten babies, crying over nothing thinking, thank goodness I'm not involved in ancients! I had been banned by then, for whatever reason, so i couldn't have any fun with them, but that's OK. Good riddance to a bunch of stuck up, know nothing, know it alls. One ancient said something like, are you really challenging a bunch of like minded scholars to form their own ancient site? Well, don't let the door hit you in the rear on the way out. Maybe they (CT) feel the same way about me, after all, I'm banned. But at least i didn't walk around with my nose in the air, thinking I'm better than everyone else because my coin was from before jesus, so. There's that.

Glad you're still able to get what you need from the site. I'm rarely back. I just like to see how buried my old thread is, once in a while. How easily we're all forgotten, lol. Enjoy your day. Thanks for checking in!

...not a question of like nor dislike just an issue of it didnt contribute anything meaningful to the forum or its members....

Well, you've certainly got me on that one, lol. If there's an ignore option, you might want to add me because I'll never add anything meaningful to anything online. I prefer to save that for real life. Best to you and yours!

Yeah……. I’ve been an active numismatist for 59 years and next week will receive the Glenn Smedley service award from the ANA. But yes, I am a hyper blunt Boomer who thinks most younger folks are miseducated.

Hehe! This is why i luv ya! And congrats on the award, I'm not familiar with any of it, but it sounds very highfalutin, or is that high society? I think i made that first word up, actually. But i do offer you a sincere congratulations. And you know I'm just having fun with the newbie thing. Everyone, I'm just having fun with the @VKurtB being a YN stuff, ok? He's been an active numismatist for 59 years, and next week, will receive the Glenn Smedley service award from the ANA, ok? So leave him alone. See? Got your back, my man!

    Have a super week, everyone!

I totally missed that about the chemicals!  Yes a lot of dip solutions really mess up the coin!  But it's worth scrap at a minimum.  3.73 as of this morning.

Why on earth would anybody be paying attention to anything i say, let alone anything with substance, like chemicals! If anyone had made a comment, i would have been in shock over here!

That's just one of those dopey things i say because i think i might know something, and I'm usually wrong, and it usually gets me in trouble with the person. Thank goodness it's you, because you know there's no harm nor foul going on, over in my camp. Just little old me, and some coins, lol.

As always, your contributions are cherished so, thank you.

    CJ,

Not sure how your cleaning of this came out.  And as others said, no harm in trying to clean it on this example.  Tarn-X is a good quick(but harsh!) silver dipping cleaner.  If this had a readable date, i'd leave it be.  But i hope you get get some detail after your method.

I hope you know I'm kidding with the bleach/vinegar solution! I believe that combo creates a deadly gas, if i recall correctly from 9th grade earth science, about 40 years ago, lol. Have a great day!

    P.s.

Whatever i did clean that coin with, i believe it damaged the silver, as it feels less smooth, and i little pocked, after the treatment. Oh well.

  9. And as always

I'd say boring, but i haven't found a WaP in a few weeks. This is the third most popular reverse, in my area behind Marsh-Billings and Salt River Bay.

Nice way to kick off the week. As always, questions and comments are welcome, and as always, it'll just be me and some chickens, hanging out over here. Enjoy your week, everyone. Check back tomorrow for more nothing.

  10. As everyone knows, my finds happen at two speeds, and two speeds only, feast, or famine. All or nothing. Go big, or go home. That's it, just two speeds. Although sometimes, you get lighter days. So maybe feast, famine, and well fed. Those three. And actually, sometimes you get really light days, too. So feast, famine, well fed, and lightly fed. To be honest, some days can be moderately heavy, as well. So, feast, famine, well fed, lightly fed, moderately fed, but that's it. I think. Sometimes things can be lightly heavy, as well. Whatever, I'm getting ahead of myself. On to today's finds, so far. One never knows what a few hours may bring.
