  1. I understand, That last coin you picked up would have put me on hold for a bit. I may also be in a holding pattern with my last five higher priced Morgan's
  2. Yes I have been finding some good looking coins trying to finish up some Nickel books. So I have been hitting the rolls. I normally save the heavy roll hunting for winter but September is close enough.
  3. Shotgun for squirrels? I use a 22 up here. There must be some big tree rats in Kentucky
  4. Not a old paper home roll .A fresh Loomis roll from the bank.
  5. Well it is not worth much but this is the oldest coin I have found roll hunting so far.
  6. I am glad this subject has been brought up. I try to keep track of my coins ups and downs I do not have a lot of rare coins but I have some coins that have a higher than normal price range. A example is I have a Jefferson MS65 1954 S DDR FS-801 it is a low mintage but not crazy low. This coin I think being overpriced anyway was valued at $350 in 2017. It drops a few times. I purchased the coin in June of 2022 it's value is $275 a month later it drops to $225 I get a notice yesterday it dropped to $135. Which is probably what it should have been all along. I see the highs and lows all the time and it is what it is. So the question is what is making this coin drop? Is it the economy or did someone find a bag of them in the cellar.
  7. LoL .. well that one is a little bit nicer it has that PL64 label and a blue copper tone.
  8. This is a very common cent. There is no premium on this even though some web coin site click bait may say it is a big error. In reality it is a over polished die not a error just a worn out die.
  9. Nice looking coins and this is the place to post . I always post here so the new members can enjoy what we already know.
  10. Thanks for the nice info Brad, I tagged it as a die clash feeder finger and put it in the Odd & error tin box
  11. LoL ya, I hear a happy meal cost more than what I spent on a coin. I will not be sending them to Heritage Auctions either
  12. Thanks Neo . The Pilgrim is just a cull it has been cleaned and had some PVC on it but I did not care I like it for a bit over melt price. It was there with the Columbian which was the nicest coin in the bunch.
  13. I just got home from a Granddaughters mini golf and birthday dinner earlier. Tonight I have been giving this 1893 a real close look and other than a few contact marks this coin has it's original patina and no sign of cleaning that I can see. Coinbuf remarked that it has no luster which would hold it back from grading a AU and I thank him for his insight. In reality it does have a bit of luster I think the first photo being shot straight on and the dark toning is hiding it . The majority of the coins high spots like the sails and the top of the bust hair are in good shape. The bottom of the hair shows a little wear but even MS 67 coins look flat in that area. As Rod Gillis stated in the clip Lem posted these coins all seam to tone out very dark. I may have to do some more research on this coin. Here are some shots at a bit of a angle. I am not sending this out to be graded but any thoughts, comments or questions are welcome.
  14. Yes I price them all the time at the auction and almost all are just like this one, brown and bronze
  15. Thanks for you information I appreciate your knowledge. I have no green that I can see just a lot of brown tone. LoL.. You are correct I did not buy these to have them graded. I figured $10 was close enough to melt to warrant the expense
  16. I do buy raw coins once in a while EagleRJO . Ya the price was not a big deal Coinbuf I used to spend $30 a day on cigarettes I cant imagine paying $13 a pack now it would cost $50 a day now .
  17. I agree that the Pilgrim is a mess but the Columbian surfaces look like they are in good shape. I thought it was toned out a bit but not damaged. I can give you close ups. If you don't mind pointing out what you see Coinbuf
  18. I stopped by my favorite antique store today and picked up these two coins. I figure what the heck the Pilgrim may be a F to VF and the Columbian is at least a AU, I think for $10 a piece it was a good deal.
  19. I took a look at the feeder scratches and they are not quite as large as these groves. These are in the die for sure maybe just a extreme example.
  20. That's what feeder damage looks like , Thanks asdfgh I have heard of it but never looked into it. I will check it out now.
  21. Thanks for checking that out Mike, You answered a lot of questions with your report on that sale.
  22. Thanks Lem, I got lucky again .Yes it is getting harder to find some of them and when I do they don't hang around to long.
