  1. I like the W, Hog .I may have to look for one, I have only one MS70 and a 69 that came together as a two for one deal. I only buy proofs when they are too cheap to pass up. But I may reconsider my options with that first W nickel.
  2. You may want to get a second opinion on that DD before sending it in you are showing a 1995 D.
  3. Sorry VKurtB I was a bit off base on the Half's..they are 40% but not 90% The point I am trying to get across Taylor is there are to many half truths out there in cyberspace now days. Coming to this forum and listening to the years of knowledge here is much more practical than you will find anywhere.
  4. LED and Florescent lights stink. They are not a clear light they are a white light. not good for grading coins at all.
  5. I have examples of all three SMS coin sets and on all of them the half dollar does not show a copper edge. So should I crack them out and send them in??????? NOOOO...It does not mean they are silver. You can see they are clad just by looking at them. Searching for the goose that laid the golden egg can be fun but sometimes it just leads you on a wild goose chase.
  6. I see there are a lot of wonderful toned coins in this thread. I have a few gold tone nickels not as nice as the ones here but I like the look. Now I picked up this MS64 coin just for the color. I wanted to post this odd Blue Tone coin and get some opinions on toning. . I am new to toned coins and figured I would ask if coins stop toning once they are removed from there environment and slabed or will toning continue because it has already begun ?
  7. Yes my nickels or Morgan's are not a investment for me. Maybe for my kids some day. I always try to buy at 25 to 30% of retail and I get lucky most of the time but you do get that hard to find coin that always puts you over into the 50 to 75% range. In the end it is just enjoyment of collecting that is important. No returns for me if you don't sell anyway ......LoL
  8. Yes, I keep searching yard sales and antique stores for for that long lost Rooster QA needs............No luck yet....
  9. It was more of a joke Jo, ( although with 50 years in the electrical trade ) in reality most fixtures you can only use a 60w light bulb or you void the UL rating . So yes it is kinda true.
  10. Ya no big win with coins unless it is something outlandish and you already have a buyer drooling over it.
  11. Is there a new video out on the web saying there are a bunch of coins struck on the wrong planchet's? It does happen once in a blue moon but not a everyday occurrence. I am just guessing that if it is in a NGC or PCGS holder chances are it was looked at before it was placed in the holder. Most TPG will not say what the holders weigh it helps to keep the counterfeiters guessing. You could always take it out of the holder and check it but you would loose any increased value the holder has given the coin with its grade. I don't think is is worth the chance.
  12. Ok this was the one that started it all. The first graded nickel I ever purchased I had to have it to start the WWII collection, I paid $12 for it and thought to myself ? Who would pay that much for a nickel..
  13. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09DG5M8NX?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
  14. Sorry to see you got ripped off. I have a few of the 66,67 SMS sets and it makes me sad to see someone using the holders to scam people.
  15. Thanks Neo, I would not likely crack out any coins seeing I try to buy them well below grading costs. I also feel a lot of coins are overgraded and I would hate to go backwards.... Lol ... I see you have some nice nickels yourself Neo. What other coin sets or type do you collect. Just wondering ?
  16. Sorry the pictures are to fuzzy to say anything for sure? The copper you see could be environmental damage. coins that have been outside in the earth sometimes look that way.
  17. I am sorry I did not know you made this post, I hardly ever come over this side of the building to visit. I see that there are quite a few members that have some very nice nickels to look at. Now I will have to stop by more often and see...
  18. Don't cut yourself short VKurtB you do a fine job of grading. I think copper coins are the hardest coin to grade. Most of your comments are deadnuts with what we have to work with online. Harry, I want to say that every Numismatic I ever met is way fussy that is why you will not get just a MS answer when you ask. It must be explained why that number came up that way, so you will know the reasoning for the answer. Then you can go back and look at the area in question. That is how we learn to be better at grading.
  19. Welcome Bob , No one here is laughing, it happens to a lot of new people. We only want to help new members if we can that is why we tell people to post coins before they send them in for grading.
  20. Welcome , The coin you have posted is a common silver 1964 . The only SMS coins are not available unless as stated in Coinbuf's reply.
  21. I picked up this book at a antique store it had the years 1962 - 1970 already in it for $5. Then I swapped and added all the rest from circulation to complete the book you see here.
  22. Too funny . As I am typing the last reply to TJ, I open up a bank roll and the first two coins that pop out are a 1937 P+D Buffalo. Not worth a lot but still cool to find in 2022
