    Well on the bright side. I would look at it this way. It does not say Details or Cleaned Like most of the stuff out there.

    Very nice coin. A little wear on the high points on both sides. Some minor scratches. Two small hits on the revers rim I would think with some luck would put it at a AU58.But if it is in an old soap bar I might leave it alone.

    I think we all have at least one. Some are just more damaged than others. This is not an error, it is a parking lot coin as we say.

    Not just Morgans, I think all the coins have gone to high, I go to the auctions all the time and people bid goofy on things. That drives the prices up, but the value is most of the time well below the hammer.

    I agree this is a damaged coin most likely from being caught in a dryer barrel When it flips on end it will roll it flat on the rim until it falls and then it will rub the sides of the coin until it is just right.

    The date does look a lot like this one . 1942-D DDO-001 (varietyvista.com) Yes Kirt it does not look like the common one 1942 P I agree. I had to look twice. Maybe it is missing markers for proof ?

    Yes Neo, I am looking at gold rising and then I go to check prices on coins, and many are all dropping like crazy. So I wonder why it works this way? Is it to keep the coin market stable?

    I was afraid this would be the outcome, but at least as duly noted, at least it is a no fee Variety Plus. I am sorry to see NGC is not willing to fix this if it was an honest mistake. It sounds like it does not matter if it is a free attribution the price is the price.

    That statement says a lot. You just joined a month ago? Most members want to help you so they give you honest opinions, no sugar or honey just facts. How long have you been collecting coins. There are many collectors that do not have coins that are graded. This hobby requires many years of dedication and knowledge. It is not like building a model airplane and there is no instant gratification in this hobby unless you can buy anything you like or every coin makes you happy. In the end. It is what makes you and only you happy, not what makes the other guy happy.

    No Error the marks are scratches most likely from a coin rolling machine. The rest of the coin could have been subject to chemicals to make the surface look that way. It was not that way when it came off the press, so it is damage.

    Yes. I am not sorry to say I have no Presidential or Sac Dollars. What are those coins made out of Copper Clad? Some of the proofs do look ok but what is the melt value of a regular strike $1 coins compared to a Morgan, Peace or even an Ike.

    At one time the Philadelphia mint made all the dies and ship them to Denver so why were they nicer looking coins. Would not all the dies be the same quality or did Denver juice up the dies.

    Is it the 2024 has more of a square edge with very little bevel on it compared to other years., Unless that is a dent on the edge and not just a reflection.

    Correct Mike it does not matter. I will explain my comment. For the OP, There is only one drill mark on the reverse. when you look at the obverse you are seeing the tip of the bit that did not come through. When the OP did an overlay, he aligned two shots over each other at zero tolerance. But we all know it is rare for both dies to be perfectly lined up, so that is why it looks like two drill holes.
