  1. Finding a good year ASE can be fun. I found this DCAM in a antique shop. I was able to pick it up for half price I was lucky. This one goes up and down in price like a thermometer in March
  2. Those are great looking coins. I agree if I can find a RPM or a DD I will try to pick it up regardless of the grade but they always sell kinda high. I don't mind paying a bit more if I really need it. Like the 43 over 42 you found for me.
  3. Today is my wife's birthday so I have other plans
  4. I was in the Mountains on Sunday and found this posted in the welcome center. I wanted to know if there are any here that may have a piece of this history.
  5. I have a complete set of ungraded ASE's and I would not sell any at $21.95 today. Graded MS 70 or a proof will get you more money but raw coins will only get what a dealer can afford to pay. I will keep what I have they look nice.
  6. I can say that the PCGS designation on some of my coins you could say is iffy and photos' can be hard to tell. NGC 5 and 6 steps I think are very close to the real deal.
  7. Yes my full set is almost to 50% not so much with the proofs. I have to be watchful bidding is getting crazy it can suck you in if you are not looking. Most of the odd coins like the 38 variety's and Western Journey and proofs are selling a lot higher than in the past. If I am careful I can keep in my budget like a 2000 for $8 and a 69 for $16. It may not look like much to some but as you know it is hard to find a lot of FS Jefferson's and in 66 and up.
  8. If you set a reserve is that where the bid starts instead of $1 , I was just wondering myself.
  9. Welcome CBRD.I think you have Mechanical doubling and a worn out die. The coin is very damaged from circulation even if it were something special the damage to the coin has made it unacceptable to most collectors.
  10. I am a ANA member. I love the information available from the ANA. There was a time before internet ANA ,coin clubs and coin magazines was almost the only way to get information. Not as much now the internet has filled a large void. This forum is a great asset to the hobby. You can come and speak with knowledgeable people where in the past you would have to go to a club or coin shop. I am sorry to see that there are not more older collectors that know of this site here and ATS. If the old timers don't feed the newcomers wisely there will be no more history to share. Coin Collectors like old statues and monuments will continue to disappear across the country.
  11. I got lucky this weekend. I got two nice 66 coins I have been looking for at a really nice price. I especially love finding coins in the old holders
  12. From the looks of it if you did not scrub the coin it looks like someone before you has cleaned it.
  13. Well I wish you well on your purchase. If you can post some shots and details when you get the coin I am sure you will get the honest answers you are looking for from the members here..
  14. The 55 D was $10 not as good a deal as some of the other ones I have got in the past but it is all ready graded so I am still ahead of the game.
  15. That is a good point. The only thing other than a vice job I can think of would be zinc rot under the copper. I love a good CSI (Coin Surface Investigation) In the end it will not change much but it is still fun.
  16. A good illustration. If it is lower it could be there was something wrong with the planchet before the strike. You could send it to CONECA for a look I think it is a $5 fee for a look see .
  17. Did you buy the slabbed coins from eBay at a discount because they already had the spots or did the spots just come later?
  18. I have a Nickel I was looking at when you look it up it shows a Sacagawea reverse on the photo. So ya mistakes are made .
  19. I like my ASE collection it was the first set I completed. I have 2 graded MS 70 and one proof the rest are all hand picked raw coins that are 68,69, 70 nice coins. I have a couple that did get spots. Not much you can do about that. I replaced the bad ones with High hopes for the rest. When I was putting the set together silver was climbing so I thought It would be ok but in todays market they are not. It's ok the set is nice and it is for my grand kids anyway. I only buy one a year now. Buy what you like and go slow don't worry there will be enough coins for everyone. .
  20. Without seeing belter pictures or in hand. The cracks do not look raised I will stand with PMD on this one.
  21. Welcome Niema I agree with Greenstang, I think if you look close you will find it is not a Double Die but Mechanical or Die deterioration doubling. There are no listings so far for a 2009 D DDO or DDR. you can check below. http://www.varietyvista.com/09d WQ Vol 4 DC/DDO Listings.htm
  22. It is nice, I tried to look up the number but did not find a listing for it?
