  1. It is a MS 70 all day long.......... until you try to sell it.
  2. IMO this coin the op posted has signs that it has been in the ground for a long time. It is worth it's copper content....
  3. Wow , now that CAC is slabbing coins we need another slab sticker . Na............ I will get my own silver and gold stars and if I am real good I can have milk and cookies.
  4. It has no date or any reference to a higher power. Does it have hieroglyphics on it? Maybe it has some language I don't understand.
  5. Welcome edhalbrook.. Both cents are in rough shape the 57 is all displaced metal damage and the 36 would be ok for a coin folder
  6. In the larger magnification I see what looks like a thread that runs through the R and above it some texture lines going east to west that It may be struck through cloth. Hard to say for sure not a lot of wear but it has almost 70 years on it.
  7. This web site also offers a free inventory system not everyone uses it but it is available to all members.
  8. I think Conder was trying to make the same point Kurt. He saying the same thing, you do not need to grade every coin.
  9. It is in a holder so it is safe. Unless you are making a registry set I would leave it alone. It may have a bad step we can not see. Now rotation is a different story. Where is true north on the obverse of a Jefferson Nickel. ( Was he reading a book ,looking straight ahead or looking at a spider on the ceiling ) Just having some fun with that last line.
  10. LoL... Re-runs of past findings. New collectors may be sending them in at $5 a pop + so there is a market for them now I guess. I have always put them back in the change jar.
  11. In 1964 we had the last of the silver proof coins. Why would we need a 1964 SMS. I can only think it was a trial run for the upcoming clad coin that did not work out. My understanding is SMS coins were not even conceived until late 1966 and only to appease numismatics. So in 66 they were minting 1965, 1966 and possibly at the end of the year 1967 coins.
  12. Well, being a small nickel collector. I keep a link on hand for reference to Henning's Nickels. This may help. https://www.error-ref.com/henning-counterfeit-nickel/
  13. I agree Sandon, I have seen these on nickels for many years and always fluffed them off as chips. It is a very thin piece of metal between the rim and letter's that can easily chip or snap off. It looks like our world is changing and anything can be redefined. Kinda like some of the new DD cents which have no doubling at all only out of shape devices. I do not think this new Bar designation will increase a coins value much but it is interesting to see it recognized.
  14. There is a new type of error recognized on nickels. It is called a Bar Die Error. I have seen this on many nickels where there is excess metal between the rim and the edge of the devices. It is important to be sure it is not displaced metal pushed in from the rim. I guess they are getting there own label now. So far the list does not go any further than 1969. Not to say there are not others out there but none that have been reported to Variety Vista yet. http://www.varietyvista.com/35 BAR Nickels/BAR Listings.htm
  15. I also disagree with the SMS on the newer coins. I think SMS should only reference the 65,66and 67 coins .ATS calls it Satin Finish . It should have been something different for NGC like SMF (Special Matt Finish) to late to change it now. Erin there are many factors to consider when looking at coins. Keep on trying. Don't give up ya never know what you will find.
  16. It is a fact 2006 SMS, Sorry Roger..Also 2005 SMS coins
  17. That looks like a FS 5 depending on the grader looking at it. The nick on the top step may or may not change to outcome.
  18. Well it looks clean now. the coin is well circulated from the looks. I don't care how soft the brush was. It left scratches behind
  19. I see nothing special just some good looking coins in a cellophane wrapper and two plastic e-z open holders. The 67 does have the nicest fields of all three samples
  20. 1964,65,66 and 67 were strange years for the mint . Well actually for everyone everywhere Lol... I think there was someone in the cellar going through bags of coins saying this one looks good enough for a SMS set.
  21. I have many proof sets that have coins in them that were just ok enough to put in the box. It makes you wonder sometimes?
